Some users might have Wifi access most of the time, and think the $30 a month isn't worth the extra convenience of having data access all the time, but they want their phone, MP3 player, Camera, and email machine to be integrated into one device.

Just cause this is not your situation, doesn't mean a lot of people would like it this way.

Edit: There's also places where even VZW doesn't have great 3G coverage, and instead of paying for unreliable 3G coverage, just go with no 3G coverage, and use Wifi.

I think this is a very valid point. The thing is, people want cool phones. Period. We live in a day and age where a phone should be super fast, super smooth and sexy to boot. However, there are zero options that fit these criteria in the dumbphone range, so you can see why people want the form factor of a smartphone without the $30/month cost of always being connected. If I could use my phone on wi-fi and have it double as a decent size screen PMP and video player too, that's all I'd need. (And also the potential point of saying that smartphones require data plans because they are more expensive due to these features doesn't hold water either because the cost of ownership of a smartphone over its life is light years higher than the retail cost between dumbphones and smartphones).

Basically, telling someone they need a data plan for a smartphone is like saying you can't buy a laptop without 3G.

Perhaps reasons why higher up's or even managers of verizon stores not leaking info if they know anything about the "Incredible"

1. Verizon tells all in the know, you leak info, you lose your job.

2. How many Managers or even higher up's actually troll the internet wanting to leak info about phones? when they do this for a job all day long, probably not interested in looking at cell phone sites about info they may or may not already have or how to leak it.

3. Why risk it? even if its a slight risk to leak info, Probably not the best idea if you would get caught.

4. Get caught and then fired, then when you use Verizon as a job reference to get your next job ...

Verizon Job Reference: It says you were fired due to breaking Confidentiality Agreements / Trade Secrets ... probably not a great reference to have if you want to get a higher end job, would you hire them?

I think most if not all of leaks "do not" come from higher ups ... I think they actually come from people that are in the right place at the right time that dont have risk, which is where alot of the stuff on this forum come from.

I have a good friend that works for VZW and usually knows about phones before they are released. He never tells me about anything about them. His standard line is "I've signed a do not disclose and don't want to get fired." I've even asked his wife and she never knows anything. I've asked her to withhold sex :p from him and that still has not work.:( I keep trying to pry and nothing. Even got him drunk a few times and nothing. VZW does a good job in striking the fear in to their employees that are in the know. I'll let y'all know if ever I find anything!

I'm going to print that out and walk into a Verizon store. When they tell me their usual BS that that they've never heard of the device, I'll show them the print out. The look on their faces...

:D

Lol, that would interesting except I don't believe they trust store employees with any information until they go public. They droid they went public what maybe 2 weeks before launch. Anyone know when the the commercials started.

Also comparing your link to The Droid Version they have a lot of information to add to that site.

It's all about pleasing shareholders. anyone who says different is naive.

Right about now, this is the timeline for the release date as far as I can tell.

so you want to take a smart phone and turn it into a dumbphone? or part dumb when not near wifi?

Im just gonna say, if VZW doesn't release this thing like now. They are digging themselves a hole. Apple to have the iPhone event in 3 days is going to stir up a TON of news and followers, Microsoft is having an event April 12th which can be anything special, Winows phone 7, natal, etc....

VZW GET THIS THING OUT ALREADY BEFORE YOU KILL YOURSELF!!!

Even though nobody here really wants to hear this, I can think of no other place where anyone would understand the significance and disappointment of the thought which occurred to me sometime in the middle of last night.

What if the "2nd Android Phone" on the calendar is the Saygus VPhone and not my Incredible?

The thought alone is punishment enough so no need to shoot me.

Good thought.. You can shoot me, though. :(

No, they want to be able to choose between convenience of having 3G availability for $30 a month ($360 a year before taxes, and fees), or using the data only when they have Wifi available, which for some people may be 98% of the time that they are using their phone.

Why must we be forced something that should be optional?
