Odd, I have the Dare and I don't have a data plan. When you say it requires a data plan do you mean if you want to use data services on it?

New Verizon policy as of Jan 17? Any phone that is not a simple phone requires it. If I understand it correctly, if you replace your phone on insurance or purchase a phone from ebay etc that is a multimedia phone a minimum data plan would be REQUIRED. Check out the verizon forums... OUTRAGED customers. That means people with family plans who have kids that need a new phone they can't get the multimedia phones unless you have the data plan. Feel sorry for ppl who have 3 or 4 kids on their family plan... extra 30-40 per month!! So essentially if you have a 10 year old with a "cool" multimedia phone you will now be required by VZW to give them unlimited access to the internet.

I like Steven am losing my patience. Went thru the same stuff waiting on my Omnia. I hate being "stuck" with verizon.

when u were waiting for the Omnia, was vz as tight lipped and frustrating?

HTC - Products - HTC Desire - Overview

Has anyone posted that the Incredible could be this phone?

Anyone?

The HTC Incredible should look, pretty much, just like this. Notice the differences between it and the HTC Desire that you linked to above.

So, to answer your question: no, and the simple answer is because the Incredible and the Desire are two completely different devices. They will have some of the same specs, no doubt, but they're different in some very key ways.

But Verizon is nice enough to block the internet on the phone if you want. You still have to pay for it, but they'll disable it....how generous of them.

What plan is this? I pay alot more and don't get unlimited anything except data. My unlimited data is like $50 a month and then my voice plan is like 39.95 with 450 min then I pay $5 for 50 text messages.

Core Choice 450 - $39.99
Unlimited PDA/SMARTPHONE - $40.00
WPP Insurance - Asurion - $4.99
Unlim M2M MSG W/ 50 MSG $5 - $5.00
Mobile Broadband Connect 5GB - $15.00
Visual Voice Mail - $2.99

So is there a better deal then this?

Just to vent...I've now been waiting since around Halloween....I've been waiting since the Bravo forum was the hotspot for info on the Incredible....sigh.....

Nash,

Always there to dangle the carrot... sorry I drooled a little ;)

I think the better option is use google voice for free texting and keep the voice/data plan. Only 15 dollars more a month and you can use your phone as a phone.

Only problem with this plan is that Google Voice only handles SMS not MMS at the moment. Unless something has changed.

Too bad they don't offer that txt msging plan anymore. I have it but it is grandfathered on my EnV2. When I upgrade to the Incredible I will have to give that plan up. They will not grandfather it over. So, I will have to upgrade to the $10 plan until Google Voice allows MMS.

We don't need to start this discussion again. :) I was simply trying to compare apples-to-apples. The Incredible is rumored to be getting 500MB RAM and 6GB on-board storage. The EVO is rumored to be getting at least 1GB RAM and at least 8GB on-board storage.

Perhaps that is a "more accurate" way of stating what I already said above.

Just to clear things up, the Incredible is going to have 512MB of RAM. (I know there were rumors of 1GB, but honestly I think 512MB is MUCH more likely.) It will also have 8GB of moviNAND storage, not 6GB. Nothing ever comes in at 6GB. It will have a little less than 7GB (maybe 6.6 or 6.7) when you first check because there will already be things stored on it, but it is still 8GB worth of space. It would be the same for the EVO if it had 8GB of built-in storage, too.

Yep.. makes sense to make me pay for something that I don't want in the first place... and then charge me to block it. If I understood the rep correctly they are doing away with the "free" blocking of data... you will have to pay for the service where they charge you to block numbers etc. They are totally out of touch with the wants/needs of their customers... sound familiar? People are screaming at them and they are proceeding forward without any changes.

My 10 year old has a samsung rougue...and she does have internet access... I didn't buy it for her and I don't pay for her plan but if it comes to a point where I have to.... I will not pay for it. I want vzw to tell her that she can now have a simple phone without a qwerty keyboard for texting... which is pretty much all she does. I don't appreciate verizon telling me that they want me to get the "most" out of my phone... I would like to decide what features of my phone I WANT to use. I would like to be the one who decides WHAT my 10 year old has on her phone that I am paying for. They are clueless.... and they don't care.

Verizon is out for the $ and for every customer they lose they have 4 more who are unhappy with other carriers.

Everyone keps saying that they are gong to go to sprint/att..... I really do not think they care. They have a large enough customer base... and in some areas the best/only service... they are not worried. There would have to be a sudden mass exodus for them to "get" it.

Just be be difficult: a 4GB chip + a 2GB chip = 6GB. But that's probably not likely here. The Incredible will probably get a 4GB or a 8GB chip.

I have a Samsung Rogue (after my Palm Centro crapped out on me) and I have to pay for a data plan (that I rarely use cuz it's so damn slow).

BTW, so glad to see Kappy and Montana back! You guys were missed. ;)

Well, VZW does have a couple of messaging phones that do not require any data plan. I believe the Samsung Intensity and the LG Cosmos have full Qwerty keyboards and do not require any data plan.

I am not saying I agree with VZW's plan to get more money out of people because they believe we are not using the phones they way they want but they do have options.

Yes, 4 + 2 = 6, but it certainly doesn't equal 6.6 or 6.7. And, if you look at a few screen shots, they all say 6.6 or 6.7 which would imply that it has 8gb with things already stored on it (plus the fact that 1gb is never 1gb, always a little less).

In this day and age.......getting smartphones, especially ones like the HTC Incredible is becoming fairly a waste of money. Of course there are a select few who don't need data since they have wi-fi like 90% of the time, but most people don't and data is a must.

But now, there's almost no way of getting a GOOD smartphone without a data plan now, they're required and a must now.

what are the chances that when the Incredible is reviewed by the websites and such, and when they do, they say that it is a flawed phone, ...what are the chances that we are diappointed? ;)

It will also have 8GB of moviNAND storage

Excuse the ignorance here...will this be for app storage (natively) as well or are we still waiting for an OS update promised to allow this?

Also, I noticed on the specs link (beginning of this incredibly long thread) that says 1Ghz proc...is it believed to no longer be underclocked?

If this phone is what the hype is made to be plus a flat back, I will definitely switch to VZW for this device.

Thanks!

Lets call Verizon and tell them "I'd like help activating my HTC Incredible" and if they start going forward with the call jump on them..."SO YOU ADMIT IT! IT DOES EXIST!!! SELL IT TO ME NAOW!
