Also, i think Snapdragon has already been pushed to it's limit in terms of CPU speed so that is why we aren't seeing any crazy overclocks on the thing, only that 1.13ghz overclock by one person and nothing else.

the QSD8650 has, but when you get the QSD8650A it will run at 1.3Ghz since its a 45nm chip while the 8650 is 65nm. You're right, the fill rate on the PowerVR is better so the true performance will be application dependant. I just want people to understand the that "dedicated GPU" when refering to SoC's doesn't mean the GPU is completely spearate. They may be different dies, but they are on the same chip.

Armbar, you got 2.1 on your Eris? I bought Motorola Droid (tired of waiting) and did an immediate update to 2.1, but didn't realize I could have gotten it for Eris too. I might want to switch if the 30 days pass and no Incredible.

Yeah, there is a thread in the Eris forum, I opened the box and updated it manually, tool like 5 minutes. It's pretty sweet! Not sure if I like it more than my Droid...but I'm lucky enough to not have to buy these lil guys so I kept my Droid too

Yea.......dedicated just mean the GPU performs only GPU tasks etc...still same chip yup.

Im just saying, Snapdragon would be a lot better if they got a better GPU, the CPU helps a lot in stuff like web browsing, apps loading, etc...Thats why DROID can basically be better/same as snapdragon when you overclock the processor to like 1.1ghz.

Of course, the main downside of the DROID is it only has 256mb of RAM so multi-tasking will be a bit worse than 512mb but you still need to run a decent amount of apps at once to begin to affect performance.

What do you think that means? They're ill informed?

I'm hoping. If memory serves me right... the omnia was listed as an upcoming verizon phone before it was released. But then again... i am getting older... could be wrong.

just think in a couple years how advanced phone processors and mobile gpu's will be...

ds, psp, etc will be fading away (if they already aren't)

Have any of our "insiders" (NTK, etc.) weighed in on this yet?

No, they are silent...however it is Easter Monday, fwiw. I guess it is the silence of the insiders that has me all discouraged.

what are the chances that when the Incredible is reviewed by the websites and such, and when they do, they say that it is a flawed phone, ...what are the chances that we are diappointed? ;)

Little chance, IMHO, that the Incredible will be viewed as flawed. Android 2.1 is decently mature, and there are no obvious hardware deficiencies in the rumored Incredible specs, which themselves are high-tier for a 2010 device.

But there are a bunch of look-alike phones in that same category (Incredible, N1, Desire). I think the Incredible is more likely to be ignored than panned.

Hey guys I have been following this thread for quite a while now but never posted anything. I thought I would take some initiative and get in contact with Verizon. I sent an email in regards to their Twitter account and this is what I got back.

Dear Andrew *******,

Good morning. My name is Minerva and I am sorry to advise you, currently Verizon Wireless does not offer the HTC Incredible. I am unable to provide information regarding which equipment is being considered or approximate release dates, as this may raise expectations that may not be met. Below I have provided further information in regards to receiving information on new products.

Mr. *******, you may receive free e-mail updates as to when new products and services are available. To receive your free e-mail update, please click on the following link to view the "E-mail Updates" page of our website: email.vzwshop.com/servlet/website/ResponseFormOSPEJNlmhtLk_.2ef

There are several wireless phones being tested for functionality and reliability with our network. Verizon Wireless will not offer a product or service unless it meets the high standards our customers have come to expect. Verizon Wireless is constantly improving the services, features, and wireless phones we offer to our customers for their communication needs.

Then it goes on to tell me about my upgrade so I cut that out.

Has anyone tried sending them a similar email except using a made up (but believable) name instead of the Incredible? The idea being that they may give a different response if they actually don't know anything about the phone, or they may give the same answer no matter what unreleased phone you ask them about. Just a thought.:)

Well, the optimistic side of me says, there was a rumor last week, that the N1 would show up on Google tomorrow morning. It was also said that the Incredible would be announced alongside the N1.....So we should expect an announcement tomorrow right? ;)

The Incredible won't exactly be flawed but it wont be praised either.

The longer they push the release date, the more VZW kills themselves.

The Incredible when released won't be viewed as "OMG AMAZING" considering phones like the Desire are out and EVO/Shadow are on their way. It's gonna be more of a like, the Incredible fixed some things wrong in the Desire and Nexus One with the better camera etc...i guess you can say just like the 3GS was to the 3G the Incredible is going to be more of an evolution than a revolution. Just fixing some flaws and cons in the Desire.

Good video, yea the Shadow is going to look like a beast even more now.

It's basically like a computer........CPU plays a big role, but in 3D intensive stuff, it barely helps. GPU's are where it's at in terms of games etc...

Snapdragon got fame because of its 1GHZ speed and fast CPU. Not many people know the real/true technical things behind it though. It's smart in terms of marketing etc....everyday people just looks at the mhz.

I hope you don't include me in that group of "everyday people". Silicone has been my passion for a long time and I have tried to research as much as possible. Now if I'm flat wrong about something then please show me proof, and I will change my tone immediately. I don't want to disseminate bad information, but I want to try and inform people as much as possible.

Are there any good Opengl ES 2.0 benchmark results for these chips that you can show me? I've been looking for a long time and all I find are 1.1 benchmarks

regarding the chip discussion. I overclocked a droid for someone to 1ghz and it didn't feel as fast as the nexus one by far.

pretty optimistic

now THAAAAT'S a great idea! Do it!!!!! ;)

Well, VZW does have a couple of messaging phones that do not require any data plan. I believe the Samsung Intensity and the LG Cosmos have full Qwerty keyboards and do not require any data plan.

I am not saying I agree with VZW's plan to get more money out of people because they believe we are not using the phones they way they want but they do have options.

Try selling that to a pre/teen or a teenager who have been using much nicer phones with much nicer cameras. ... not to mention someone MY age. Those are like the phones I used 5 or 6 years ago... outdated!!!! I am not looking to go backwards on the tech scale and I can guaranee you that the younger crowd isn't either. It would be one thing if we had not already had the nicer phones... but alas we have. That is how I got into the incredible hunt in the first place!! I let them suck me right into their evil plan!!!

I read through the latest @VZWOffers, and only 1 wasn't related to "Your Current phones suck. Give us some N1/Incredible news"

Someone higher up in VZW has to notice this. It's ridiculous.

The way that GB are advertised in storage mediums are in billions of bytes.

Our 8GB rom are 8,000,000,000 bytes.

8,000,000,000 / 1024 = 7,812,500 Kilobytes = 7,629 Megabytes = 7.45 Gigabytes (useable)

Something tells me that if they're serious about this device, they may be including some buffer in there for some solid 720p recording or special features that would truly make it INCREDIBLE. Who knows, maybe it will have a built in ShamWOW to dry off your car!
