My GNex has as issue when it comes to charging. It only wants to charge when the phone is off.

I have rooted, rom'd, back to stock'd. Has anyone heard of any software issue that might cause a charging problem.

Try another outlet. Try another charger. Try another cable. Once you have ruled out everything from the outlet to the phone, then assume it is a phone issue.

If you have returned to stock and factory reset the device to it's original settings and it continues to give you problems, then see if you can get a replacement device. I've not see a stock device refuse to charge while powered on.

The only time that I have had issues with the phone not charging (or recognizing the USB port) is after I take the phone off of the desk dock. The phone always thinks that it is charging once it has been placed on the dock. Occationally when I place it back on, connect a USB cable to charge (or connect to a computer), it will not charge or be seen by the computer. At that point I have to power off, pull the battery and reboot. Then there are no issues and it will charge once again. This happend on all 4.1 ROMs that I tried and now on 4.2 as well.

You might want to try cleaning the USB connector on the phone. I had similar problems with mine where some chargers wouldn't charge right, and others worked but would cause the phone to show charging even after I disconnected it. I cleaned mine with a toothpick to get the large stuff and a toothbrush to get the rest.

Depending on the charger you are using it may not work, i know my GNex is very specific on chargers i can use, some work some don't its weird...

I would suggest in trying to find a new charger, if that doesnt work maybe try using canned air on the usb port...

If anything, since you returned it back to stock, you could always get another.

Different phones charge at different frequencies right? I know my ZTE Warp doesn't like to charge on a blackberry charger but will take a charge from a Samsung cord.

Like D.C. said.. If you rule it all out, you can always get another one. Good luck.

Check to make sure that ALL of the chargers you are using have an output rating that is: 5.0V / 1.0A. A lot of chargers (non smartphone) have an output of 5.0V / .7A.

I speculate that your phone, when turned on, is pulling at least .7 Amps (or 700 mA). Please note that .7A = 700 mA and 1.0A = 1000 mA. Depending on the manufacturer of your charger, will determine how they choose to display the output rating.

I hope this helps!
