Isn't that Incredible?
Android OS doesn't support Opengl 2.0 if im not mistaken. They have hardware to support it but the OS doesn't.
Listen, im not saying CPU doesn't play a big role, it does. But the DROID can be better/same as Snapdragon. A lot of people just assume it's old and slow because snapdragon CPU runs at 1ghz while the DROID cpu runs at 550mhz. If you push the DROID CPU to 1.1ghz (it will still be a bit slower than snapdragon because of architecture etc..but not by much or anything noticeable) it will essentially be just as fast as Snapdragon. Then you add into the mix the GPU's, in terms of real-time performance, the PowerVR in the DROID and iPhone 3GS is just overall better than the AMD in Snapdragon giving the edge to the DROID IMHO when the DROID CPU is as 1.1ghz.
That video of the OMAP 3630 gives a good sense of how much the GPU can help in games etc...compared to the current GPU in the DROID and iPhone 3GS. 60FPS increase is hell of a lot in 3D apps.
Pewpew, I have attempted to keep up with what you guys are saying about the cpu/gpu power of droid vs incredible etc
Do you believe that the Incredible's gaming power will be optimized by developers through later updates (like later released games on 360 look better than early ones usually)?
I just dont understand why/how they would release a phone that has worse gaming/3d performance than the Droid and the Iphone 3gs, especially if they expect to compete with the phones on the horizon.
Sorry, I was too concentrated on post 1000. Here's a couple extra smileys....![]()
Congratulations!I would have put big pictures on my 1000th post, but I have class and tact.

I'll be honest, i can't really answer your question. Idk why they didn't put a better GPU in Snapdragon. Maybe it was too much to have a CPU like they already do and a good GPU? who knows.
Honestly, Snapdragon is fine, most people will be happy with it, heck i would be happy with it. Qualcomm's implementation is different from TI's OMAP, each company has their own take. HTC decided to go with Snapdragon while some companies like Motorola are going with TI and OMAP.
In terms of pure gaming performance, OMAP would win, but it's heavily dependent on developers and what they choose to do.
If a game relies heavily on the CPU, you can see the Snapdragon winning, if the game decides to rely more on the GPU, then you can see OMAP winning. It's mostly developers now. The problem is, with Android and all the different hardware, it's hard to specifically develop a game for one set of hardware specs. That is why Apple is so good in some terms, they only have one hardware set so everyone just develops for that and the performance can be optimized greatly with consistent and constant performance for every user.
I'm still young, give me time, and I might get one of the two eventually.![]()
"CaptD%^&&Bag @VZWOffers The EVO is looking pretty damn good. Can you hear me now?"
LMFAO. Is that one of you guys?
lol........i never said it was the same. I said it can come close to it.The Droid at 1.1 is not as fast a Snapdragon at 1. Ever. You can enable and disable any instruction set you need to get a boost, but it won't be the same. The chips are designed differently and for different purposes. Don't forget that by overclocking that chip you are actually running it hotter and harder than it needs to be run. Yes, I know that plenty of people do it and most of them with success, but for people who simply want a snappy phone without the hassle and worry of rooting and manual updates for software they aren't even supposed to have, then the Incredible is a win/win.
The Droid is plenty fast and plenty capable. The next chip (3630 on 45nm) will be awesome, but this one has fallen flat and lived out most of it's days. Now is where Snapdragon is going to shine. The performance that you see will probably be about the same. Give it 3 or 4 months and we probably won't notice a difference, honestly. That is, if we did root and overclock our Droids, otherwise the Snapdragon will still be the victor.
I remember back in the day when people refused to believe that the 486 was ever any better than the 386, because of how well everything was tweaked and worked for the architecture. They took the same defiant stance on Pentiums, too, back then. This is more of the same, just smaller and in a phone and not a hulking desktop box.
They won't, there isn't and they aren't. The Incredible will be a very capable phone and it won't be neglected. As more apps fill the market that are suited for the Snapdragon everything will be even out. When most of the apps were made for the G1 there were plenty of issues to arise. This is because there is no formfactor on which them to build on because phones are manufactured in so many different ways with different specs. If you are really concerned about gaming, though, I'd recommend something that is specifically designed for it and probably not a phone.
One of the more taxing games that I play on Android devices is the game Homerun Battle 3D. Playing it on a Droid and a Nexus One is different, I have to give the advantage to the Nexus One. It still doesn't play as flawlessly as I'd like, but that's just opinion.
Interesting, they seem to realize that the word is out 'unofficially'.
Latest from VZOffers Twitter;
@BradBurge @guitar_timc We have several things coming down the pipe, details are confidential until the official release dates. Stay tuned.
Guilty.
im going to vzw this afternoon to xchange my env touch again
OK so here is something possibly others are thinking but not saying......
First, let me be very clear I have not heard anything from a source nor am I an employee of any carrier or mfg. This is just my nightmare.
So the phone call from Apple goes like this;
- VZW and Apple have been in talks about and IPhone for ever (fact)
- Apple and Google are at odds (fact)
- Apple has file suit against HTC (fact)
- The new IPad has the ability built in to use carrier data plans (today ATT only ?????) at $15.00 / mo NO Contract
- The new 4g Iphone will have the A4 chip which is said to be all carrier. (leaked but not confirmed to my knowledge)
Here is an offer, non-negoitable. Warehouse the new HTC devices for what ever reason you dream up and in return you get the following;
Release the new HTC devices and we add you to the lawsuit. Petition the court for an order to stop sales of HTC devices and rlease the above to all other carriers.
- New IPhone 4g in June/July
- IPad with 4G chip on your network
Do you think VZW would cave or did I just eat some bad sushi last night?![]()
Eh, the guys job is to manage a Twitter account.Sweet, a response! Well at least they have now admitted they can't actually tell us anything. We can keep bugging them if we like but they will keep responding the same. Which would really be better, ignore us or keep answering us despite the fact they couldn't give us information if they wanted to?

I think that's a great story line, but isn't corporate blackmail generally frowned upon?OK so here is something possibly others are thinking but not saying......
