Not to bust any bubbles but there is no way this will be Super AMOLED and I doubt it would be AMOLED either. As far as Super, Samsung made a big deal about their new Galaxy being the first one to use it. They may sell it later but for now they won't let a competitor use it. As far as AMOLED, I don't think it is likely. This screen will likely be the exact same part number as the HD2's screen.

for price anywhere between 199 and 250 i have been told. There is going to be alot of ROM more than 5GB. RAM too will be alot, atleast more than at the CTIA conference.

Great point up there! I could not word it better myslef!!!

The Evo looks pretty sweet. Begining to make me want to jump ship from VZW to Sprint. Plus my contract is up begining of June. I've been waiting and waiting for the Incredible, and it's getting to the point where I'm getting fed up, and if I have to wait that long, why not just get a 4g phone. Plus I live on the I-5 corridor in Seattle/Tacoma. Spend 98% of my time there, and looks to be great coverage... hmmmm oh the decisions!

If you have great coverage, I can't understand why you would want to pay more for Verizon. The only way I could see myself moving that way was if I lived in a rural area and had only Verizon coverage. Sprint plans are a good 30-40% cheaper and coverage is pretty much on par in cities, towns, and along highways. They just have lower coverage in rural areas that used to be served by regional carriers which were later bought by Verizon.

I posted a question the other night and I don't believe anyone ever responded. My question was related to a family member of mine who owns several sprint stores telling me that I would not be able to get the EVO at launch due to our city not having 4G service. I hope he is wrong but i had a chat with a customer service rep this afternoon which sounded like he could be right. If someone with inside info like jackson could check this out it would be great.
04/05/2010 05:04:49PM Summers: "ok, one more question if you will do you have information about wether the EVO 4G phone will be released nation wide or in 4G cities only?"
04/05/2010 05:05:50PM Agent : "The device will be released nationwide and not just in cities that currently have 4G."
04/05/2010 05:07:16PM Summers: "I've been told by a sprint store owner that our area will not receive it when it is released because we do not have 4G in our city yet. He said that we will get it a few months after the release. Are you sure of your info?"
04/05/2010 05:08:07PM Agent : "We have been advised that this will be a nationwide release. However, there could be restrictions in some areas dependent upon the market."
04/05/2010 05:11:55PM Agent : "Are you still with me?"
04/05/2010 05:13:06PM Summers: "yes sorry"
04/05/2010 05:13:24PM Summers: "what do you mean by restrictions"
04/05/2010 05:14:44PM Agent : "Unfortunately, we haven't been give the locations of distribution but we have been advised that they won't be distributed in all areas at once. We were not told how this would be determined but some areas that don't currently have 4g would be getting the"

They are probably concerned about misleading people into thinking they will be getting 4G service. I see idiots on forums to this day bragging that their Pre or Hero is better because they are on Sprint and therefor have 4G service. Lots of people just watch the commercials and don't know what they are talking about :D

When it comes right down to it, I don't think anyone knows except Sprint, but it seems kind of silly that it wouldn't be released in non-4G areas when it goes on sale. I would be upset, because we won't have WiMAX here in Florida yet, but there are so many features on this phone that don't require 4G. I have WiFi in my house and in my office and there are more and more WiFi hotspots around. Everything should work on WiFi pretty much the same as it does on 4G. I don't mean to disagree with your relative, but maybe he hasn't been following the whole EVO thing as much as we have? I can't help it, but I find it very difficult to believe that none of the stores in Florida (and many other non-4G states) would be able to sell the EVO as soon as it's released. It's isn't logical. Maybe your relative meant to say WiMAX might not come to your area until after the EVO goes on sale.

Hey Jackson, you haven't happened to of heard anything regarding apps for the car dock or desk dock such as the Droid and Nexus One have you? Or how about an app from Sling Media for a Slingbox? I have seen videos of Sling testing on Android but that was months ago, any idea?

You have piqued my curioisity since I am unfamiliar with android apps, but what is a car dock or desk dock app?
A Sling app for the Evo would be really cool. I dont have a Sling box, but have always admired them for their brilliance. If they found a way to use it with the Evo that would be pretty awesome (reminds me, in one of the videos I have watched about the Evo in the past few weeks, they played a HQ video on a large screen TV using a sling-like type of device I cant remember which vid i saw or what they called the box they used though).

I think they used a Roku box. Also regarding Sling, you can also do that with Orb. I used to stream all my media at home including all the cable channels I had via my tuner card. I was able to watch all that stuff at work and on my WM phones.

Yeah I agree it wouldn't make sense to sell it to 4G only markets because the EVO has the potential to make a LOT of sales because of its other features aside from 4G. If we were talking limited supplies then sure they could prioritize the areas that have 4G but I think with the $ that HTC and google have, I think they would be able to manufacture a good enough quantity for launch.

I can do you one better. I have been told by an employee at a sprint corporate store that my palm pre would be capable of 4g as soon as they release a firmware update.

Yeah after you mentioned it I remember the name Roku box. Orb sounds really cool, you can 'mycast' all your media.
Hahahaha, I promise I won't tell your boss what you do in your downtime at work ;)

Well I haven't done it in a while. Also I work in video and multimedia and I am at work very late. I'm often just monitoring live conference sessions or keeping an eye on things after hours so I do a lot of forum browsing and other multitasking. As long as I drop it when something comes up I see no problem :)

This is correct. Sprint actually has several current cell phones which will be capable of 4G with an update. These include the Pre, instinct, and black berry models. Wether they will all get an update or not idk. I am thinking not so it is more enticing to buy the Evo and sign a new contract. Atleast that would be the smart move for Sprint Cough Cough.

As far as i know the Evo will be available everywhere. More than likely more Evos will be shipped to 4G cities for that is where it should be more popular. Ill try and find out more but i would find that extremely peculiar. One thing i do know is that Government and huge corporations have first dibs on this one. The united states gov is all over this one haha

just when i thought you were on the inside. the pre doesn't have the radio for 4g. no way the instinct does, either.

Hehehe I was just giving you a rough time. Sounds like a cool and interesting job. Being a young person that does some volunteer/amateur Audio/Visual/Multimedia work I have often wondered how to go about getting a job or career like it sounds you have. If you don't mind my inquiring mind, maybe you could shoot me a PM with a few tips?

Where are you pulling this info from? The FCC did not pass the Pre for any sort of 4G communications.
"official governmental confirmation that WiMax is not in the mix."
