Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

You have piqued my curioisity since I am unfamiliar with android apps, but what is a car dock or desk dock app?
A Sling app for the Evo would be really cool. I dont have a Sling box, but have always admired them for their brilliance. If they found a way to use it with the Evo that would be pretty awesome (reminds me, in one of the videos I have watched about the Evo in the past few weeks, they played a HQ video on a large screen TV using a sling-like type of device I cant remember which vid i saw or what they called the box they used though).

Check out this video of the Droid in it's docks. This is what I want to know if it will be included or not.

The Pre cannot get "4G speeds" without a 4G radio. The radio in it is not capable of that. Maybe they mean it would be capable of a later EVDO revision but I don't think Sprint is going past Rev. A.

A lot of these rumors were started by the misconception from watching the Sprint ads with the Pre and saying "America's first 4G network". Not saying that's what you thought but I can almost guarantee that the rumor you heard had an origin like this.

Go in a chat with a sprint rep and you will see that i am 100% correct!!!

I ahd no idea about this either until i was chatting with one of them and they said there were already phones out there with them. This is not from an insider! It's from sprint themselves! haha

Srsly KNOW UR FACTS before u try and bash someon, thats not cool what u just did and it makes you look dumb =[

ehh half way... "currently the radio in the receiver is on a 3G frequency, but its possible that an update will be released that changes the frequency of the radio in the pre, making able to receive a 4G frequency."

This means that it can work with 4G. Just read the text, no need to twist it folks. A fact is a fact and this is exactly that

The fact is that the Pre won't get 4g speeds like the EVO even if it's enabled to use that frequency. That would require a new wimax radio.

^This is a fact. It also has a slower processor.

I just get pissed when someone calls me a fake and there are outright WRONG. Know your facts before you make bold statements because it doesnt make you look any smarter....

thanks for having my back moglust, your my boy!

Here's a quote saying the supersonic phone will not cost over $800 unsubsidized, more info just backing up my price range claim...

"Well so far the price has not been announced but it is estimated that it won’t be priced more than 800 USD total."

So basically all you are saying is I can drive my moped on the interstate? If I get 3G speeds while using a 4G frequency then it is 3G for all intensive purposes.

Hey I've got a question for you Supersonical...

I remember you saying that the guy in the leaked video with the white supersonic and gloves on was your source, and that you saw and handled that phone. I know it was white but it also said supersonic and had different styling on the back than the EVO that was shown at CTIA... So are you sure that there will be a white version offered by sprint? My guess would be that the white one was a development unit that was used before sprint made their cosmetic changes to it, but a lot of people here are convinced there will be an option of black or white at release time.

Got any facts on this point?

OK I need help with this dilemma i have or soon will have....I upgraded my contract to the Hero in January and now I want this. What should I do?

Supersonic or Evo, deal with it please, if someone magically stumbles upon this site then they will have to catch up sorry.

The phone i saw was a white version of the Evo. If you look in the video the supersonic label was mearly a sticker haha. Thats what HTC did, its logo and SS were just one big ol' sticker on it. If you look at a very verrry eatly post from engadget you will see that this backs up mine and other claims that the phone will come in a "variety" of colors. The only ones i know about are black and white. They may come out at different times but they both exist inside sprint HQ...that is a FACT.

I would sell your hero on ebay and buy this bad boy. The hero is sooo outdated haha

Also it will be able to get 4G speeds. Not the height at white the Evo will but nonetheless. It's like a moped on steroids. =]

Hope this cleared some things up

Jackson

How much do you think an extended battery would cost for the EVO? I'm concerned that I'll be drawing too much on the battery and it won't hold up for a day.

I currently have the enV touch (lousy phone) and have all data consuming things disabled as coverage from Verizon is ridiculously expensive. I rarely receive or send calls, and take maybe 3 pictures a week nor do I use the music features. My battery dies after 1 day, and I'm never roaming. I know I should get a new battery, but with my plans to buy an EVO, I'm letting this phone "die." :D

Variety of colors? You mean other than black and white? Very interesting. An all blue or red for example would look sick.

I would anticipate that Sedio will release an extended battery with a minimal battery life increase over the OEM battery and slap a $55-$60 price tag on it...probably not worth the price IMHO.

The EVO is a beast, so don't expect miracles in battery life with this bad boy...I'll be satisfied with charging it nightly as I have been doing with all my phones for the last 4 years.

Does anyone know if battery is the same as the Hero/TP2?
They look identical.

Wouldn't be the first time HTC has made phones that uses the same battery. Sprint seems to be attempting to streamline their parts in their repair centers so this could make alot of sense.

If they do use the same battery...then that would be AWESOME as with my current TP2 I have a separate battery charger with a spare battery to ensure I have a fresh battery at all times.

Jackson - any news about this funky looking bad boy here?

Will it be on sale at launch? Any ideas?

thats just like the apple juicebox. my dad almost bought one at bestbuy the other day for his iphone. its a case that goes over the phone and has an external battery. great for traveling, but i dont think i would ever use it.

Jackson, I wasn't trying to talk smack and I totally appreciate your posts here so I'm not trying to discredit anything. All I'm saying is that the specific radio chipset in the Sprint Palm Pre only operates on the frequencies for CDMA 2000 1xRTT/1xEV-DO rev.0/1xEV-DO rev.A. When I say it won't do 4G I simply mean that it can't use Wimax or LTE technology. I didn't mean to get into semantics and I'm sure the Sprint rep was telling you what they knew. I just meant literally that those phones are incapable of getting on to any fourth generation networks (namely LTE and Wimax or even HSDPA+). EVDO Rev A can get up to 1.5-3mbps so it is certainly capable of hitting the same speeds as a decent Wimax connection but the term 4G as it applies to Sprint's network refers to Wimax and none of those phones has a Wimax capable radio.

Sorry to be so specific and sorry for getting into semantics but I truly do enjoy your inside info and I think it is one of the best things about this forum. I appreciate you moving over from the Sprint forums and sharing that info on this one. I'm just giving you the info I've run across as it relates to the discussion.

If you've got info about the Pre having a 4G radio then I'm very interested in that. It would give my Pre a new lease on life.

you cant polish a turd.

Yeah, but I can get more use out of it even when I've upgraded the other one. It's lacking in build quality and I'm very ready to upgrade but it's still a quite functional phone. I still have my daily schedule and contacts synced regularly, can keep up with email, and chat with my friends during the day. Might not be the best phone but it is definitely useful and the ability to patch it and hack it has made it a lot of fun.

Too bad the hardware is so flaky...
