if you have a tower above you you have a 85% chance that the signal your phone is receiving is not from that tower (unless its an omnidirectional tower). Signals from Cell towers travel in curved waves away from the tower at a 120 deg angle outwards / per cell unit. unless you are in that range in front of the tower chances are that your are receiving signals from another tower.
