Root htc evo v VM help downgrading hboot 1.57

Hi im sorry im completely new here and do not know where to post this and yes ive tried searching but cant find any results. Im trying to downgrade my hboot version 1.57 and no matter where i google search i cant find anything helpful. I want to flash the meanrom from forum.xda-developers . It dosen't tell me exactly what to do or how to downgrade my hboot to get hboot 1.4 or 1.5 with s-off. I tried and accidentially messed something up to where my radio randomly turns off after 2 calls and 3g network dosent work it only connects to 1x network. i called for a replacement and i have it and i want to try to get this meanrom installed. Ive searched all day on google for anything about it but nothing helps. If anyone can help please direct me to the right forum or give me info on it as i am kinda desperate to run this rom.

First is it a sprint or vm branded Evo 3d/v because that hboot is sprint Evo 3d, if it was vm it would be 2.18 rather than 1. 57

my phone is virgin mobile. it says htc virgin mobile on the back if that is what u mean by branding. hboot in fastboot says hboot 1.57 and if it helps the baseband version is 1.06.00.0426

If anyone else can help me with any information that would be very appreciated. I will be on tomorrow sometime to check on the thread, and thank you for your time.

Hboot for vm is 1.57 and in the you don't need to downgrade to flash the rom it works fine without it

Hboot for vm is 1.57 and in the you don't need to downgrade to flash the rom it works fine without it

it says on installation instructions "Before you Install, prepare:
  1. 2.17.651.5 ROMs need the latest firmware. See freeza's all in one firmware update if you haven't done that already. If you unlocked via the HTC method, you know the drill: you'll have to take the OTA and then re-unlock." Which i dont quite understand because i tried freeza'z all in one firmware update and i couldnt get it to work. do i need to be unlocked first or locked and it also dosent say anything about hboot 1.57 it just says "Please use 4ext Touch Recovery because it works on both Hboot 1.4 and 1.5 (including S-ON) and will give the best results (least potential flash problems like reboots or boot loops)." And also how do i flash a kernel without being s-off. i havent found a way to get s off with hboot 1.57.

All of that stuff is for Sprint phones that didn't have ics yet according to this post you're going to have to s-off and downgrade to hboot 1.04 then you can flash the rom this is THE ONLY WAY because hboot 1.57 doesn't allow non HTC ics roms

sorry to say this again but i havent quite found a way to downgrade my hboot yet. ive been searching and searching and still have found nothing. Honestly i dont know where to start. there are no guides that actually tell me how to downgrade my VM htc evo v's hboot from 1.57 to 1.5 or 1.4 or 1.04

Check the sticky post up top on the first page. The fix everything sticky. Directions are easy. Just make sure you are rooted with s-OFF

it says nothing about how to get s-off with hboot 1.57 on that page. There are no guides for that otherwise i would have been already s-off. I can get root thru the htc method but it dosent tell me how to get s-off.

going to sleep. hopefully someone who has actually done this procedure from going to 1.57 to 1.4 or 1.04 and achieved s-off and knows where i should start can help me in the morning. thanks for all the answers but i am still confused, Im sorry.

I have done this.lol.. It's easy. all virgin Evos have the 1.57 hboot. Read the post again. But actually read the whole thing. The directions couldn't be any clearer

I seen what u meant. i didnt know there was an actual link where it said S-OFF that lead to the wire trick. the reason i didnt want to do the wire trick is because someone on some forum somewhere said that the wire trick dosent work with the virgin mobile htc evo v and said that it completely bricked the phone. but as i read the wire trick site it said it works with the v 4g so im in the middle of going through the root then ill try the wire trick and report back here if it works. thanks for making me understand XD.

I have achieved S-OFF with hboot 1.57. I thought i bricked my evo v when i seen that i didnt have the htc drivers installed when it kept saying more beer then it said please install drivers. so after searching for a good 20 minutes i just got fed up and pulled the battery and re-ran the program after i found out i can boot to fastboot and after 2 more tries it worked XD yaay lol. now i need to know if i have to install a lower version of hboot to install the meanrom rom.

meanrom should work with hboot 1.57. you can even have s-on and meanrom will still work you just have to flash the kernel after flashing the rom.
meanrom was the first rom for me to flash on my phone and i had hboot 1.57. you only need to change your hboot if your going to flash a AOSP roms (AOKP/cm10/cm9), then you will need to use hboot eng 1.04. also if you use sense 4.0/4.1 roms(venom/chubbz roms) you will need hboot 1.58.
before you flash meanrom just make a backup of your stock rom and save it to your sd card.

Thank you for the information Cryiss. I went ahead and flashed MidnightRom and it works flawlessly. Im still hboot 1.57 but i noticed that my signal bars fluctuate alot. I was wondering if that was going to pose a problem in the future.

when your in the command prompt with mouse cursor,
Right click and Mark option to highlight the available token key.
Then press ENTER on keyboard to copy it.

Go to HTCDev, you need a account
Paste the token key
when you get to bottom of step.
Should look like this.
