Phone wont install ROMS

Im trying to install various roms on my S2 And the phone gets stuck in the booting screen... It started happening after i ODIN the stock Rom for the S2

Here are the tools - I am aware it says discontinued but they still work and essentially perform the same function.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955

the way I flash roms is the following:

1. Boot into CWM
2. Flash DarkSide superwipe
3. Flash Darkside cash wipe
4. Flash rom!
5. Flash Gapps
6. Flash (backup/apps) if you have them as apk from titanium backup pro.
7. Flash DarkSide CASH WIPE (again) only cash wipe
8. Reboot phone.

Please take note that your phone will be booting a lot slower the first time and it will take a few extra minutes at the boot screen. It needs to generate some log files as well as some cash that will use later. If your phone is at the boot screen for 10+ minutes it is stuck and you should try to go back to stock and go from there.

Hope this helps.

Quick disclaimer that I should probably have in my description - I am not responsible if your phone gets bricked or stops functioning in any fashion. Basically same as the disclaimer on the ROM.

Hi, just for curiousity. I read from somewhere (XDA or RFD forums) that when using TWRP recovery it's not advisable to flash with DarkSide superwipe/cache wipe. It may actually mess something up. Is it true ? Can you please provide steps when flashing using TWRP? Thanks.

Yep that is true coz twrp actually erases the system partition correctly unlike CWM. I personally still use CWM and flash those without any problems only when I am switching between roms.

Hi alextop30, do you know any site which prvide steps for clashing CM10 by using TWRP? I tried googling it but couldn't find one. Thanks.

Hi kepong. Look at the bottom of this post about TWRP. If you haven't done it already, the first thing you want to do before flashing a rom is to make a backup of your rooted stock system. That is very important. If you flash a rom and have a problem, or you just want to go back to your rooted stock rom, all you have to do is restore it.

Tap Backup, give it a name like 'rooted stock' or something. When that is done, make sure you have the CM10 zip on your phone. You will also need Gapps for Jellybean. The link is in that thread. In TWRP, select Wipe. Then in the Wipe Menu, select factory reset, select system, select Dalvik Cache, select Cache.

Go back to the main menu and select install. Select the CM10 zip and install it. Then select the gapps zip and install it. After it installs, you will see an option to wipe cache/dalvik cache. Do that and reboot your system. Let your phone sit for 10 minutes after it boots up. Then have fun. :)

Awesome. I'll try flashing during the weekend!!!:D

Hi Atmazzz, Quick question. Do I need to flash the "radio" as well? Currently I'm using a S2X T989D v2.3.5 from Telus, will there be any different if I flash with radio from T-Mobile or Kodoo (there are few versions of them~~TLLG2, TLLE4, KJ3, UVKL1, UVLH1) or I have to stick with Telus radio? Thanks.

These radios will work on all our phones. I think you would have to flash at least an ICS radio if you are still on Gingerbread. Read the post by this user to see what he did.

Understood, if I'm still on Gingerbread or ICS. What about if I flash to CM10? Do I need any radio to be install/re-install? Thanks and sorry for my ignorance :o

Its not a problem. :) I don't know everything about flashing to Telus and Koodo either. If you try CM10 and it doesn't boot. Power off your phone, boot into recovery, wipe everything again, flash either the ICS radio for Telus or Kodoo. Whichever one you are on. If you are already on an ICS stock rom you shouldn't have to flash the radio.

the telus radio is T989D TLLE4 ICS Radio
the koodo radio is T989D TLLG2 Koodo Radio

Then flash CM10, then wipe cache and dalvik cache and reboot.

Thanks for the explanation. My scenario is a bit complicated. My S2X is originally from Telus and I've switches the plan to Koodo recently. So, technically the stock rom should be from Telus. Say, if I flash to CM10 (without reflashing the radio), will the kernal or Baseband versions being updated or still stays as it is? if yes then I shouldn't bother about any radio to be flash on later. Am I correct? Thanks:confused:

Yes, you may be correct. :) If it boots up fine you wouldn't need the radio. I've just seen some that couldn't get it past the startup screen and had to flash a radio to get it to work.

That's what I thought. If the is no issues on voice/data connections after flashing, I'll leave it as it is.:) Thanks anyway for all your help!!!:D
