Help Two minutes with a new LG Motion--- one thumb down

Sure, you can "simply" turn on Bluetooth to transfer a few files... That's what I do between my phone and Windows as well as with my phone and tablet when there's a few small files to move.

I'd like to see you attempt to transfer gigs of music or video over Bluetooth... :smokingsomb:

That's not one of my requirements, so ask someone else to try that.

Ev is 3G...

When Metro released the Admire, and many other 3G phones, they never anticipated actually running them at full 3G.

So, many phones that suddenly started receiving full 3G signal started displaying the standard "3G" icon. However, CDMA 3G isn't labeled as "3G"; it's called "Evolution for Data Only", EvDO for short and even chopped further to "EV" as seen on most phones. Only Metro phones sold after the 3G/4G move correctly display the 3G "EV" icon, or that's what I've noticed.

I dont understand why users post a personal review on here only after a few minutes of use. Its happened before, i've read a few of them. Its almost like coming in here and saying "This phone sucks" and then the user seems surprised about the feedback or maybe they're not surprised at all. Maybe its exactly what they wanted. :hmmmm:

It wasn't a review, it was a list of initial impressions. My lengthy reviews are found on other websites under two other handles.

besides that, i respect your opinion even if i sorely disagree with it. do whats best for you.

^^^ This!

Guys, listen, our Site Rules/Guidelines basically say this: be polite.

If you can't make your point without being respectful, then don't post.

It's okay to disagree, but you must do so by not attacking other members. You can attack the issues (respectfully and politely) all you want, but not another member.

I've removed a couple of inappropriate posts and am still reviewing the thread.

Let's all play nice, okay? :)

Thanks!

It's in the ui still I have mine saying 3G instead of EV

The Galaxy looked nice, but I must have the side buttons for controlling stills and videos. Period. If the Galaxy had that, I'd buy it immediately. The Admire and Motion both have side buttons for the camera.
the motion doesn't have a dedicated camera button

This is probably going to be a bit redundant but here I go.
  • A few of your complaints are more aesthetic ones, such as the Power button placement and the charger placement, though to be fair I don't like the charger placement either, despite never having to charge while in a call, due to the battery life as a previous poster mentioned.
  • The connecting to a mac issue seems to be circumvented by you since you say you use bluetooth as a workaround, so that's good.
  • As mentioned before, EV = 3G. Your area might not have 4G is all.
  • Again, as mentioned before, perhaps your mic is busted, since calls on my phone and others' seem to be fine.

As for the later mentioned points;

We have different experiences on calls. The Admire sounded better on most calls, has the same or greater bars, and was consistent and more pleasing in audio quality. I've had substantially fewer dropped calls with the Admire than the this Motion. Perhaps I'll try a second Motion. Anyone here second that Motion ? j/k

I'd suggest trying a second one, since it sounds like yours might just have a busted mic is all. Dropped calls I wouldn't know much about, I never experience them but I'm also in a decent 4G area with great 3G as a fallback. Might be a location thing though that wouldn't explain why your admire had less drops.

Where I reside, the Motion is usually on EV, and the Admire stays on 3G.
EV is the same as 3G, so your Motion is on the same as your Admire, just the phones display it by different names.

My initial impressions of negative and positive on any product rarely change with extensive use. First impressions are often correct. Many times I've disagreed with CNet and Epinions, and sometimes even PhoneScoop. So I trust my own appraisals.
That's good, its a very good thing to make your own opinions on something after trying it out yourself, as someone from CNET might have different opinions from you, among other things. Though honestly most of your complaints about the phone have very little to do with the quality of the phone itself and more with personal preferences of button placement or being stuck in an area without good 4g.

The Motion doesn't have a camera button from what I've used, it's an on-screen button sadly. I'd personally also love it to have a camera button ;_;

All in all you were obviously just stating your own quips about the phone, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Just makes me a tad upset you'd judge the quality of the phone as a whole based on placement and a different label for the same connection (the EV vs 3G thing).
I hope you choose to try out another Motion for the call quality as to at least get a better idea of it, and perhaps spend time with the phone to maybe lighten up to it, but if you don't that's fine too, thanks for giving the phone a chance before judging it at least.

For the second or third time, I never said these were quality issues. It is only a list of initially what I liked and didn't like, hence PREFERENCES.

The Motion DOES have a camera button. Try it. The side buttons will take a picture or stop and start video. Press on the "Camera" icon, and then choose camera or video cam, then use the two buttons at the top left edge of the phone. Sweet !

I will try another Motion again, in part because of running out of internal memory on the Admire.

Not fully correct ! Once the camera on the Motion is activated, the side buttons will:

1. Take a picture

2. Start a video

3. Stop a video

This is just like the Admire. Love it. Unfortunately, the Galaxy does not have side buttons for the three items listed above. I'd buy the Galaxy if it did have such side buttons.

Still not wrong, those aren't dedicated camera buttons a dedicated cam button is for cam only but it is possible to add that feature to the S3

I pointed out a few times it was all preferences regardless and I tried to make clear I respect them, haha.

I had no Idea about the side buttons working with the camera, thanks for that, man.

Don't understand any of this.
You said it had a dedicated camera button, a dedicated camera button is programmed only to activate and use the camera but on the motion it's sharing it with the volume so it's not dedicated just to the camera.
But there is a way for you to put the feature that the motion has for the camera on the s3

Huh ? Please explain and clarify.
There are ways for you to get the feature that the motion has with the volume buttons to work the camera, onto the S3 like modified apps & others just go look over on XDA for them because I remember seeing it.

Good, if true. Link to XDA ?

of course it will void the warranty. you would need a rooted phone. rooting a phone voids the warranty.

Warranties are enjoyable, especially for a $500 phone. Will not get the Galaxy, but after accumulating many reasons, will purchase a Motion. It's only $15 to go back to my Admire.

I'll ask in another forum about the value/specs of a Galaxy S over the Motion, other than size and speed and battery life.

Just for reference; the Motion's camera also has voice activation with the "Cheese" shutter option.

I thought it was cute, but doesn't always work that great.

Rooting a phone does not void its warranty. At least not through the manufacturer (usually). Regardless all you need to do is flash the factory ROM and factory reset it and there will be no record of your "bad deed". Ive done it before with Metro and they didnt have a clue.

MetroPCS and the manufacturer have stated differently.

If you actually look at the "contract" (or whatever you would call it, the large amounts of paper you get when you buy a phone from Metro explaining all their policies), OR on their website under warranty. Nowhere is mentioned that if you modify the software of a phone does it void the warranty (hell, Ive even had someone there tell me that I voided the warranty because I installed apps off the Android Store...). Now that doesnt seem to stop them from denying you anyway, but like I said, just "unbrick" it unroot it or whatever and do a factory reset and they wont know the difference anyways.

As for the manufacturers warranty. There is nothing explicit about rooting voiding the warranty (although it does say that damages caused by unauthorized modifications void it, but it does not specify whether they mean hardware or software), however, under Googles open source policy with the Android operating system I do believe that it is a requirement that any android phone support both rooting and installing custom ROMs, therefore making those actions not "unauthorized" modifications. And regardless, either way, if the manufacturer wanted to deny you warranty based on rooting, then they would have to prove that it was the rooting that caused the malfunction, as per themagnusun moss warranty act.https://www.google.com/search?num=3...a=X&ei=6-25UMuzCaLqiwLW4oGoBg&ved=0CC4QvwUoAA

Wow, pretty tough on this guy. I think he was just trying to state what his INITIAL impressions were upon holding the device in his hand. He certainly wasn't trying to disparage the device for those of you that love it. Some of his concerns were aesthetic, and some were genuine concerns that there may be hardware issues with the phone itself. He was simply wondering if the call quality issues were chronic or if he had a bad sample of the phone. Aesthetic issues can be VERY important to a lot of people, and significantly affects their user experience with the product. Initial impressions and "curb appeal" so to speak, are subjective and also have some merit as these are characteristics that help sell the phone in the store when a customer comes in and physically picks it up. They certainly can sway a person towards a different product, whether it's actually better or worse. Product companies spend millions of dollars on surveys to receive the type of feedback that he just gave.

Not trying to nitpick guys, but really, calling the guy an idiot because he personally didn't care for the ergonomics of the phone layout strikes me as pretty harsh, aren't we grownups here?
