Virgin Mobile Galaxy S2

Just checking to see of this is the correct thread for Virgin Mobile's Galaxy S2? If this is the correct thread, does anyone know how to root this phone? If this isn't the correct thread, can someone direct me to it.

Thanks!

I've been doing some research & you'll need Odin to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery, then flash the root zip, I'm not positive as I don't mine just yet, but I think its a Samsung Galaxy S2 (19000).

That is fantastic! I'm wanting to try this on mine, I just wanna be safe considering I just paid $300 dollars for it haha!
I'll probably give it a go here soon. Thanks so much for the research and the info! :D

Unfortunately, nothing useful to add right now. Here to beef up our numbers in hopes that maybe we'll get some good support.

I have been doing some looking, and frankly Samsung's name game with this phone (GS2, Epic, etc) is a bit frustrating, but I know that the model is the SPH-D710, which makes it more similar to Sprint's version. However, the few stories I've seen have either bricked it or had radio problems since the available ROMs work on Sprint's network.

I really don't want to brick my nice phone, but I'd love to have it rooted. Would be great to see a few good success stories with this phone on Virgin Mobile.

I and others have rooted using the one-click kernel found in this all things root section. And yeah, I would definitely wait to flash any roms. There is one very good developer that just came over from the Triumph ;)
I am sure that in the near future there will be Virgin Mobile specific ROMs for us ported over.

Also, as for the name game with Samsung, I have found that if you're looking for cases or accessories etc. it is generally safe to search anything for the "Epic Touch 4G". That limits to Sprint's version of the Samsung Galaxy S2.

I can see us having issues with sprint roms, mainly on the radio/modem side. While it may be able to connect to virgin mobiles(sprints) network, call will likely work, and maybe even data, but we will probably have to mess with some tweaking in the framework to get 4g and mms working. That is what I have seen from a similar situation on the evo v 4g. Once I get the phone and can tinker around with it, and find out exactly how its laid out, we should be able to start modding. Now the first and formost important thing is to get a 100% stock fool proof rom, flashable through odin/hemidall so that in the event we flash a sprint 4g touch based rom and it messes everything up, we can always revert. And mind you odin is a very very powerful tool, so we always need to exercise caution with it. On my brothers old captivate, some roms, like going from gb to ics, required you to flash the bootloader files through odin in order for the rom to work, and if something goes wrong during a bootloader flash, it can leave you with a permanent very nice looking paper weight.

I have also seen talk on the 4g touch forums of severe issues on ics based roms when using older "non-safe" recoveries as they dubbed them, where performing a format on any of the emmc partitions of the phone(/system, /data, /cache, etc) would destroy that paticular partition on the emmc nand memory. It had something to do with the wear-leveling feature setup on certain emmc nand chips they used on the 4g touch, and the way the kernel accessed it after a format or something. Either way i don't think it is an issue anymore, as samsung has fixed this, but we still need to do research before flashing any epic 4g touch rom!
