I have my Droid and I am hoping that by returning it within 30 days it actually shows Verizon that it's time to bring in a new device. I think if a bunch of people were to go out, purchase phones then return them all for the same reason "this phone sucks we want something better" it could make something happen.

Of course I realize what I just said was a load of $hit but I don't want to be the only a$$hole who got a Droid to only return it after 28 days and go back to my POS feature phone (or worse re-activate my Treo 700p).

That would be great if we really had the volume of users to make a difference. In the end VZW doesn't care less about the lunatic fringe. We don't represent an even semi-noticeable blip of revenue for them.

That is out-frikin-standing information.

Probably the most valuable data point of the last few days. Wait,,,,,,,,,,maybe the only valuable data point of the last few days ;););)

Care to elaborate? I was a little confused with the information on the link NKT posted. Thanks.

Is it safe to assume we have some people on here who are constantly logged into their My Verizon refreshing the smartphones so that they can be the first to break the news here? From what I have gathered it is quite possible it will just "show up" there without warning.
I have yet to read about a recently released phone that just showed up on Verizon's site without an official press announcement before hand. If someone knows of such a device please let me know, but I don't think that has happened.

Also keep in mind that us smartphone users have bigger bills than the average VZ sucker...I mean customer. I know I pay around 150 per month for two BB's and that's with my discount. I do agree though that we or forum members aren't the deciding factor for Verizons business plan.

So, it's hard to tell from the grainy, crappy quality video of the Incredible that was released, is it going to have the front-facing camera? Does anyone know? It would be dumb for Verizon to release a state-of-the-art smartphone just weeks after announcing Skype that didn't have a front-facing camera.

New poster!

Anywho, I'm coming off of the EnV Touch. Last week it decided to do what it wanted to after the store upgraded it. So being as fet up as I was, I took it in to get a like new replacement. Long story short, I was tired of dealing with the phone, so I got the Moto Devour. Nice little device, but its pretty basic and I'm returning it before the 30-days are up. I was waiting for the Nexus One, but the Incredible seems to be better and will hold me over for another 2 years.

They kept trying to shove the Droid down my throat. I've never been that impressed with the phone, and with it being April 2010 its already dated. I've been Googling the Incredible for weeks now and just found this site.

I've been baited into the OT convo so this is my last post on the subject.

Sounds like you don't understand how things work. Look, it's pretty simple, All I have to do as an IT guy, is watch for accounts that use large amounts of data, and scope those accounts. I don't have to actively scope EVERY verizon account to find those in Breach of the Terms of Service for tethering. All's I need is an 'indication' of someone who 'may' be breaking the rules and inspect THEIR streams. Which would amount to a small percentage of my overall account customer base. Not difficult and does not require the mass amounts of processing power everyone thinks.

Let's also not forget from an IT perspective, I don't even have to do this realtime, I can simply echo a specific account(s) steam to another disk somewhere on another server and run all these process hungry packet inspection routines at any time that makes sense, monthly, weekly, nightly, or whenever I please without disrupting live network performance.

So believe what you want, you're only fooling yourself if you think you're outsmarting Verizon by tethering without a tethering plan, they can find you, maybe they're not looking too hard at the moment, but don't be so cocky to think you're some 'undetectable tetherer'. It's kinda comical that not only do some think they're outsmarting Verizon by doing it, but also that you defend the fact that you're breaking the rules by doing it in the first place.

I feel you provide a VERY realistic scenario - thought about this same possibility myself. Those that do know for sure how they are able to detect, shouldn't knock us for putting theories out there if they aren't willing to explain it.

Don't give them more reasons to not release this phone! It doesn't have the front facing camera, we can tell from the photos. Check out the evergreen forum for the photos. :)

FACE IT: We are smartphone groupies, who, instead of waiting at the backstage door after a rock concert, just gossip about it here. Oh the shame!

if it's true that apple made verizon wait to release the incredible, and apple is releasing the OS thursday, couldn't that make a release/announcement on friday?

count me in.
i've only got 5 days left on my droid. it will be painful to go back to my old phone ... but, i gotta do what i gotta do.

you're right tho .. I'm going to return it and say, "love the OS, love the quality of the droid .. but I HATE the keyboard and overall bulk. I want a beefed up Eris; Incredible or N1. And, NO .. I'm not interested in the friggin Devour!"

The best example I can think of was the Omina 2 verizon was extremely tight lipped with that release. There might have been a 2 or 3 day acknowledgement right before it's release.

Can someone please fill me in on the last 20 pages. I was unable to sign on due to codeine!!

Thanks

I hope you are feeling better. That said the last 20 pages were mostly people explaining what had happened in the 20 pages before that and so on... please just skim to catch up like the rest of us. I'm really not trying to be mean, I promise.:D

My guess is that if Apple really is forcing Verizon's hand in its release of other-branded phones, it definitely won't allow the announcement next day. They have to let the news of their device permeate the media for a few days first. I would bet on an announcement after the weekend if I was a bettin' man.

NICE! Thanks for the link and information! Now what the *uck does that mean to us non techies in regards to release date?

Android builds during development and testing have a couple of characteristics that are simply short cuts to avoid the more rigorous release process. The Android development environment creates dummy data for things like the digital signature of the developer, and may allow for overhead such as the debug processes to be loaded and run in a pre-release build.

A formal release key build is digitally signed with the vendor's key, and ready for distribution. Its ready for distribution in all respects. This tells us that testing is OVER!

Just scroll really fast and if you see a bunch of thanks stop and read that post other than that just scroll down fast you will burn through the rubbish and hit on the major points..

My recommended quick-skimming method is to scroll until you see a post that has been thanked several times. That's the meat of the non-codeine-induced-news ;)

Meh. Posts containing nothing more than wisecracks and jokes are getting thanks these last few days. Some of the long time servers here are going feral.

sure:

1) I'm old and folks make fun of me, but they'll get there too.

2) The phone is in it's final software version.

3) there was a reference to the phone on VZ servers, which they locked out when it went viral over the internet.

4) There seems to be a general consensus that we are really close to the debut.

5) Montana Man got mad, and left, now he's back.

6) Kappy needed to give himself a time-out from the forum, he's back too.

7) Various squabbles.

On a personal note:

I got my hot red car waxed, today. :) Now thaaaaat's news!

Dude, I seriously just spit my beverage all over the place. LOL!

I think I have read about 5 pages since CTIA, and do not feel I have missed a single thing. After CTIA I decided to go back to my normal life and lose my incredible obsession. My recommendation is to scan the posts made by NKT. Not to offend anyone, but very few others actually contribute new news relevant to the Incredible. There are probably others that have given good info, but I can't keep up with all of the chatter.

So, I email this nice PR person at VZ asking to be on that council, right? She emails me back that the council are not testers. I email her back asking that they DO get the phones just before they are released, right? She says, no, the press gets the phones first then the council.

Theeeeeen, I find out that article is wrong and the council doesn't get the phones before announcement. I just wrote her back to apologize, because I feel like a gullible IDIOT!

Yeah joining was by invitation only, and the last invites was in 2006.
