Root I'm new to rooting, can you recommend any cool apps?

Just rooted my Nexus 4 the other day. Hoping to get some cool functionality out of it. Can anyone make some recommendations? The only ones I got so far are Titanium Backup (free version), SetCPU, and Online Nandroid.

The must-haves I can think of at the moment are: wifi-tether, any good file explorer, and AdAway (possibly my favorite).

I've been able to make a wifi hotspot since before I rooted and it has been working perfectly. Do I really need a third party app for it?

What file explorer do you suggest? I have been using ES.

Someone suggested to me AdFree. Is that better or worse than AdAway?

You can tether stock no problem. As for a file browser i'm also using ES and when it comes to ad blocking i'd recommend AdAway. It works better than all the other programs I tried.

any different from AdBlock?

I've tried AdBlock and AdFree and both of them occasionally missed some ads. One example is the ad at that pops up in Bacon Reader free edition. Neither one of them blocked it, but AdAway does. I'm sure they all let an ad through every once and a while, but i've had the best results with AdAway.

Sorry everyone, I forgot that this could be tethered out of the box. This is my first phone that could do this, so it's just a habit for me.

I forgot to recommend Cerberus. You don't HAVE to be rooted to use it, but there are more features available if you are.

Yes but only over wifi for some stupid reason. It has no option to play HD over mobile network. Not much use when your mobile connection if faster than your home broadband :)

Settings->General->HQ on mobile

-For a file explorer: Solid Explorer. Best one I have found with a lot more options like double panes and cloud management

-AdFree is a must have

-There are a few cool apps that need root you can get on XDA, but I won't link because there is a reason they aren't on Google Play (not piracy, functionality)

There are some other apps I have that root increases their functionality also.

Supersu, AdAway, BusyBox, Terminal Emulator, and the stock CM file manager (set it to enable root access).

The best file explorer, in my opinion, is Solid Explorer. I've been using it since it was first developed and never switched to another one since.

The must have root app I always recommend is ROM Toolbox Pro. There is a free version of it aswell but, due to how much money this app can save us, I always think it's better to support the developer by paying the small price for it.

Another really useful app is Screencast Video Recorder which allows you to record your screen which makes it perfect for making tutorial videos. Unfortunately, the free version (which is the version I linked to) can only record 10 seconds of video at a time.

App2zip does exactly as the name suggests. It takes any application on your device and turns into a flashable zip through recovery.
