Battery problems, quirks and issues: Read first.

Which is better for battery life ; to let it run down completely before recharging or recharge at 40%, 30% 15%, etc.?
about 5-6 short shallow charges (charges before or at around 40-30 i would say) = 1 deep charge (if you drain the battery completely and then recharge it).. That is why on lithium-ion polymer cells (especially single cell design like our phones) you DO NOT want to discharge completely...

Thanks numus!

Why doesn't some genius invent a nuclear power chip for these power hungry devices? Imagine...2,000 years before chip replacement.

Why Not??

My phone is still new but this is what I discovered, the first full day owning my Moment I took it off the charger at 6am and by 10am it was about to be completely dead ...

That night I worked out some issues with Sprint tech (my phone wasn't fully activated if you can believe that) and change a bunch of settings which included:

Brightness all the way down
GPS Satellites Off
Data Roaming enabled
Sprint Service in Automatic (Sprint/Roam)
Wifi Off
Gmail set to manual retrieval

The only things i have installed so far are
Battery Gauge
Quick Settings
Weather Home Screen Widget (large) set to my zip code only

Today after a full charge last night its 3:50pm and I am at 80% still!! I would say thats a huge improvement - will see if its consistant - :o

I see your point.....carrying around a small mobile nuclear device that could get run over and is guaranteed to get thrown in a landfill within a couple of years....Brilliant!! Not to mention it is a great way to guarantee our kids have 2 heads.

On a serious note...yeah, the whole battery technology thing needs to step it up and fast!!

YEAH - My battery problem is solved

Like most, I've never been really happy with the battery life on my Moment. I did all the normal settings, e.g., turn off wi-fi, turn off gps, set the screen brightness to low, updated to cl14, etc., and it was better, but never what I thought it should be. Then about a week ago my battery started to die after just a couple of hours. I doubled checked all the settings and nothing had changed. I removed the last several apps I had either installed or updated but that did not fix the problem. Then yesterday my phone would no longer sync with my work Exchange server. I checked the Moxier settings and it kept giving me errors when I would try to save the settings. I eventually deleted my profile and set it up again. After a full charge, my battery reads 100% after 1.5 hours. For any normal phone that would be no surprise, but for this phone I'm still in shock. I don't thinks it's ever shown a full charge this long after unplugging it in the 6 months I've own it.

Obviously this is not going to help everyone, but I thought I would share.

Yeah it is always a good idea to make sure anything that syncs is working properly. I don't sync anything but Moxier and I make sure I always update it. Yahoo i only sync the inbox. everything else stays off.

Well it's been 10 hours since I unplugged it and with light usage, e.g., 30 minutes talking, 15 minutes web browsing, 20 minutes composing emails, syncing all day with Exchange, gmail, and a second gmail account, it shows 15% remaining. I know there is more because of the well documented issue of the phone not reporting the battery properly, so hopefully I'm back to "normal" battery problems. I don't feel like rooting so hopefully the 2.1 update will fix the battery meter issue.

Well being the owner of the moment from day 1, like most the battery is horrible. Well a few days ago, the wifi stopped. Other then that...I had to at least once a day restart the phone. So I took it to a sprint store. An hour later they did a hard reset and there was the wifi networks...great so I left. From the time I left the store to home was like 10-15 minutes.

During that time I had to restart the phone 2x and each time take the battery out. Got home and wifi stated unable to scan for networks. grrrr...So went to another sprint store and let them know. I was told if the other store could not fix it as they were a bigger store they would just order me one.

I got it the next day and it had the cl14 updates. I don't know but I seem to get much better battery life now. Now the thing is the "new" phone I received was a refurbished one and was told that the only thing that was refurbished was the sn#.

But funny thing is that when I called sprint, I explained to the rep from tech support and explained about the wifi I

Sad thing is that I had the invisishield cover on the phone and now that is gone. Not paying for that again.

Quick question: I
Anyway. If I leave auto-sync on will i still have my contacts on my online gmail? because I want to test if battery life on 2.1 dd10 would be better if i didn't have it on 24/7

I just got the Droid Eris for Verizon today and drained the battery completely dead before charging it. I have been charging my phone since 6 o clock and its not 12 o clock and its only at 39%.I have it hooked up to the wall outlet.

I have been using it off and on while its been charging. I've been adjusting apps, lowered the brightness, turned off wi-fi, turned off gps.

Whats going on here? And why won't this thing charge? I even used the task killer to make sure no apps were running in the background.

Well, maybe if you had chosen the Samsung Moment over the Droid Eris someone in this forum could help you.

How about here... Droid Eris

Ok..went here: Samsung i220 Code Cell Phone Accessories and Battery and ordered a 1600 mah i220 battery compatible with my Moment, Behold II, and Instinct HD....fit perfectly, without the need of a extended Moment back cover...worked fine, got an occasional message that the battery is not approved..when I went to charge it, the phone gave me the message, "not an Approved Battery", and shut down...

Is this why there are no third party extended batteries for the moment?

Are there any firmware work-arounds for this error message?

I have screen brightness at 20%, GPS off unless I need it, wifi off unless I need it and use my phone normally - sending texts, emails, searching for signal while I'm underground, surfing, downloading apps, talking on the phone, and after 12-13 hours, I still have 10% left.

anybody noticed since the 2.1 update that it munches battery like a hog? it'll say full charge and six, maybe 7 hours later im down to 15% or less. and this is when im at work, where im not even allowed to use it. so it sits in standby and still destroys the battery in such a short time. i've have to start taking my charger everywhere i go. i have ATK set to autokill unused apps every hour and no change. no live wallpapers, but i do use launcher pro. any ideas?

yeah I've been having the same problem with my phone -_-. ever since the 2.1 update the phone drains the battery like crazy; i don't even touch my phone at school and it is down to like 50%; only if i don't put it on airplane mode it does that, on airplane mode it is still at 90-80% after i get out of school. i use launcher pro as well and i saw on the comments that it consumes a lot more battery but i can be wrong but thats what i saw; ill see what happens when i use the regular home screen thing after i drain the battery completely today.

Hello All,

I hope I'm not reposting but I couldn't find anyone that had expressed the same issue I'm having with any solutions.

I bought my Moment about 6 weeks ago. The first few weeks I was running the default 1.5 software on it. I had no battery issues and no lag. I could go through a day of moderate use on a full charge.

After my recent upgrade to 2.1 I've noticed the phone lagging (on occasion), and my battery life is...well it's crap. I can't use it more than a couple of hours before needing a recharge.

I disabled GPS and set the screen to auto brightness just as when I was running 1.5.

I've tried task killers with no success. I've currenly installed JuiceDefender hoping it will help a little.

- Has anyone else had this issue?
- Does anyone know of an application that will help save the battery?

I really like Android and my phone, but that means little if it is turned off due to a dead battery!

Thanks,

-P

The spec's sound good, but I wonder about the battery life?

My daughter has a Samsung Gravity and it won't last through a single day -- even after trading it in on a new model.

So, it sounds great that the Moment has a faster processor, lighted keyboard, camera flash, and possibly more. However, is this simply a sign that Samsung isn't sensitive to battery issues or have they really figured out how to do that stuff and deliver a reasonable usage time?

One of the best things you can do for your phone's battery life is to load a custom kernel on it. I can easily get at least two days on a full charge, which is all I could expect of my old Sanyo Katana. Whather you do that or not, poke around here a bit and you'll find a lot of posts suggesting optimal settings for your battery.

As a follow up to my post yesterday I must say that the JuiceDefender program has helped quite a bit. Using my phone very minimally it was still at 80% after 10 hours where before it would have been less than 50%.

Just updated to FroYo to my Samsung Moment and battery life has been decreased dramatically. I'm a heavy phone user and a moderate apps user. With OS v1.5 my phone comfortably lasted through the day and in to the evening. This is day one of FroYo and I barely made it to lunch. In checking the battery use app on the phone it says that 82% of the battery life was used by the OS. Ouch !!!! Otherwise so far Does anyone know of a "super" battery for Samsung Moment phones. I love FroYo and I definitely love the phone except for the camera. Lack of a zoom feature makes it worthless even if it is high res.

I just exchanged my Samsung moment to get a new/refurbished phone at no charge. The problem was no matter how long I had the phone charging, as soon as I unplugged the phone it would show the battery life at almost zero. After about 4 days, I was lucky if it would even charge. The phone I have now had been on the charger all night, and within a few minutes of it being unplugged, it went right to 80%. All I did was check Face Book for a few minutes.
Has anyone else had this issue with the battery not even accepting a charge and only being able to use the phone while being plugged into the charger? Is there an alternate battery that may have a longer lifetime? Would I be able to plug in a bettery life extender type device?
