Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Actually, I am a Launch day (of last year) PRE owner, well up until 2 weeks ago. My old one finally got a deadly crack(From my own fault), but I was able to get it replaced for free.

But let me tell you, this new PRE is phenominal, the build quality is a 1000 times better. If Palm would have had build quality like this in the beginning, they never would have had soo many returns.

As far as this new PRE, I have no negative comments towards it at all....I LOVE WebOs and its capabilities. I still feel WebOS is the best OS out there by far.

BUT, the EVO spec wise, blows any phone I have seen so far out of the water. And I have always been a fan of HTC, but I have no clue about Android....makes me really wish that Google or HTC would just buy Palm now, and save it from its eventual downfall. If the EVO could have had WebOS on it, it would have been the #1 smartphone in no time.

So lets not all knock the PRE, if the quality build they have now would have been out in the first place, Palm would be back on its feet.

Palm actually reminds me of the old Sega Dreamcast, great software at the time, ahead of the times...but didnt have the hardware to keep up against Microsoft and Sony....and now Sega is just a software company....maybe something Palm needs to think about.

You still had to get it replaced though ;). I'm still on my Launch (June 5th) Pre. I even crashed the VIP party to get it. I like it better than my Treo's, the EVO will destroy it.

Bill I signed up to be a part of this forum because of you. You really kept this thing going when we had nothing to go off of. I am glad you are here and doing whatever you can to keep the conversation relevant. This thread is as large as it is because of Bill.
Yo chum, I hope we get wimax here in STL soon!!!

Hey guys! The phone is going to be released June 6th or 4th right now. I talked to my source right now and he said anything earlier would be a surprise. Anything later would signify an upgrade in OS.

Thanks for your support

Jackson

If this is correct...this will perhaps be the perfect weekend. My birthday on on June 7th. That will be my bday gift for myself.

just wanted to point out how well T-mobile has done with the HD2 and its a Windows Mobile 6.5 device.... People flocked to it and it sold out not once but twice everywhere!!! shit sold out like hot cakes..... now enter the HTC EVO which is exactly the same thing as the HD2 but 100x's better.... now do the math!! I'm talking about people that never had a WM device etc...they saw the htc HD2 and how t-mobile priced it and people went nuts saw how beautiful it was and boom it sold like it was the best thing next to sliced bread!! :D

I'M JUST SAYIN'......

Alot of people are going to flock for this phone. Once I know the exact date....I better start making plans now lol.

Can't wait for this phone. Jumped ship from the Incredible. :)
Sucks that I'm going to have to go prepaid for at least a month--Hoping it comes out early June.

The only other person I can think of that was championing the Supersonic besides Covert_Death was TwoSpirits and that's why I like having him here with us.
lol I'm here regardless. You guys can't get rid of me that easy BWHAHAHHHHAA. Even if I wasn't a mod, trust me. I probably be the biggest pain in the butt in this section.

AS for this mini topic within a topic, let me say this. I don't think anyone will accuse you of being a traitor, for what? Increasing the release date. Oh please. Like you said and said everywhere else. Sprint themselves said it will be released Summer. Thats June 21 to Sept 21. that alone is the dates we should all be focusing on. Anything before that is pure icing on the cake, be it from Supersonical, me, E-gadget, or Dan Hesse himself. Speaking of which, the man just loves to tease. today a post was made that he said it may be earlier than the summer announcement with a smirk in his face.

As for the Wimax/Lte debate. i see no debate at all, let the Lite fanboys talk all they want. bottom line is we will have a better phone on a better network on a semi 4G network. (Semi cause Sprints 4g and any Lte is actually not 4G) but thats for another thread. The closest competitor right now to our 4G systems is the T-Mobile recently release HSPA+, and we all now how far reaching and good their network is. but to be fair, they do have anedge that they are also here much like 4G. AT&T and verizon are no where near.

As for Apple, lets be real, no one is going to touch Applesauce in terms of phone, marketing and appeal. Be it brainwashing or clever marketing, they got there and will stay there for quite some time. No EVO, Galaxy or Godzilla will trump them as much as one likes to believe so.

Okay enough of my 2 cents.

Carry on. lol

TS out (putting fingers on ice)

Hey all, just wanted to introduce myself. Name's Jeph and I'll be here trying to help out as much as I can up until release date. Not going to say where I work, but lets just say I PROMISE to have some impressions and photos of the Evo at least a few days before it launches (if not a week or two).

Figured I'd spill everything I know right off the bat. Take this for what it's worth (probably a large grain of salt), but a good friend of mine who heads up the Sprint 4G campaign for his advertising firm told me months ago (before CTIA, etc.) that the Evo (Supersonic at the time) was going to be released on June 5th. He's the guy behind the 4G tour Sprint did where they hooked up Xbox 360s to the 4G network and played Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox Live--pretty sweet.

So why do I believe him? Well for one, he was drunk; and he never lies when he's wasted. I'm serious! Two, the date "sort of" checked out at CTIA when they announced a summer release. Three; you have to imagine--just like what happened with the Pre--that Sprint/HTC will want to get their product out there before anyone has time to think about jumping over to the inevitable iPhone HD that'll probably be here by the end of June.

Hahaha join the club. I had prepaid for like a year lol. I didnt want to get into any contract until the ultimate phone comes out. I thought it would been the HD2...but it's WM. Now that the EVO is on it's way....I'm happy to get a phone that's worth the money.

Welcome Jeph. One of our sources has also said the EVO will probably be released that first weekend in June. It's nice that both of you are in agreement. I know a lot of people around here will be happy to see the phone released that weekend. Our source also told us we should know more next Friday about the final build and the release date. He also speculated or said the big TV and Internet advertising campaign will begin that day too.

I agree that if the EVo did not have the HTC Sense UI I also would pass it. I really like the Sense UI.

TS out

I half agree... I too love the Sense UI; however with or without Sense I would still get the EVO... I'm sure we'll be able to root and hack and so on later down the line.... Then again I'm too new to really know if that's an option :o

Very cool to hear. I'll definitely keep my ears open and relay anything that crosses my desk regarding next Friday, though I haven't heard anything yet.

Having spoken to two people who were at CTIA and had plenty of hands-on with the Evo, they tell me that while the phone was in beta it was "impressively quick" and "not sluggish at all." They went on to say that "it looked very close to retail-ready."

I see these people everyday and they know how excited I am for the phone, so let's hope the steady stream of info keeps flowing!

HTC EVO 4G landing on Sprint mid-June, 4G to be a $10-20 add-on?

We're getting some intel today that says that "a lot of upper management" inside Sprint has been discussing Sunday, June 13 as the mighty EVO 4G's date with destiny, just a smidge over two months from now. That certainly lines up with the company's stance of a Summer release -- and while our contact at Sprint says that the date hasn't been set in stone (how could it be this far in advance?), June 6 and June 13 are said to be the front runners at the moment, with the 13th getting more attention.

We're also hearing that 4G will be a $10-20 plan add-on, a price that would almost certainly include access to the EVO's 8-device WiFi hotspot capability. We're definitely buying that 4G won't be included with the base Simply Everything plans since we encountered an EVO at CTIA that hadn't had WiMAX access "enabled" on its account even though EV-DO worked just fine; the services are being treated separately. Verizon's recent announcement about free hotspot access on its Palms certainly puts some price pressure on Sprint here, but charging a premium specifically for 4G probably isn't an issue as long as they're clearly able to demonstrate its speed advantages in the markets that have it live.

If the 4G data plan is $10 more than my current plan, I may consider it. Anything more is not worth it.

Right now Sprint charges the same $59.99/mo for 3G/4G mobile broadband as they do for just 3G, so I am not sure why they would charge extra for 4G on the Evo.

I also think it would be a bad marketing move at this point.

I agree with you on both counts! I'm very very much hoping for no increase over my Simply Everything with Data plan.

really hope there isn't an additional charge for 4G, especially when Dan pretty much hinted it'd be passed on for free to consumers and the CTIA keynote.

an additional charge for the mobile hotspot is understandable.

Also 4G is cheaper then 3G to maintain (for Sprint) and with their mobile broadband I believe there is a 5gb max for 3G no cap with 4G.

I find that hard to believe that they'd charge extra for 4G for users that already have a similar 3G data plan. The way Engadget is wording it though it sounds like both they and their source are purely speculating that point.

I thought Sprint made it clear that they are not charging extra for 4G.

I doubt they are.

Reads like a rumor and then speculation.

Perhaps our good friend Jackson can clear that up.
