I spoke to the sprint customer service today and ask why i was not receiving picture text on my phone anymore. He said that on april 9, 2010 the new 2.1 will be able to fix the problem. So folks we got three more days left until the new begining.
 
I hope this will fix the SMS issues as well... if not, I'm going back to my Blackberry. I can't take missing days worth of text messages, and no one can seem to explain to me the reason I never receive them. Fed up!
 
thats what i been reading.. and was told the same thing.. supposedly they were just gonna release an update to fix the sms, but they will release the 2.1 also..

i been running the 2.1 fresh rom, and loving it..

Never listen to what any Sprint CSR tells you. They don't really know anything lol.
 
Has it ever been confirmed that 2.1 is coming on the 9th? We have known about a maintenance update on the 9th, but the notice for that maintenance update didn't say it was 2.1.

If it is 2.1, I wonder if we will get that same crap where only 1000 people get it at noon, then another 9000 at midnight and so on. I hope not.

2.1 has not been confirmed at all. Just a bunch of rumors flying around. Considering that Sprint's data network is one of the best out there if not the best, we shouldn't have that issue. I also don't believe there are that many Sprint Hero users out there in comparison to say.. Verizon's Droid

The only time I ever had this problem was when I was running a task manager and things were getting killed that shouldn't have been...as soon as I got rid of it, my sms worked fine.

Yep, I uninstalled it after the last time I had this issue. Worked fine for about a month and now I'm back to not getting SMS for 2+ days now. I don't have a task manager installed at all.

One of the administrators on the sprint forum said that they were not going to release a maintenance update without 2.1 or 2.1 without the maintenance update... BUT did not give a date. He specifically said the 9th was a rumor. Although he neither confirmed nor denied that the 9th was update day. Sorry I don't have the link for the page, but if I find it I'll post.

I read that same post earlier today.
 
I was kind of expecting it to happen this week but I don't want to get my hopes up. Actually hopes is not the correct word, I am excited to get the update, but really hoping it doesn't screw up my phone. I am loving the Hero as-is so hopefully this will not cause too many problems.

I have a coworker with a Droid, and he wasn't in the first 1,000 but he loaded that night because someone had the update available via URL. I didn't ask if it was the URL to the official site, or someone copying the software elsewhere.

I read something about this, if I remember correctly, people were able to get a link to the google servers where the official update was being sent out. Something like that, anyway, I just hope it goes well when it happens.
 
For what its worth, I was on chat with customer service today trying to get picture messaging to work on my hero. They did some "resetting" of who knows what and it worked again for exactly one time then stopped. This has happened several times. I asked about any updates that could remedy this and he said that there was an update coming but didn't have a date. All I can say is I hope its soon! (and that it fixes the problems!)
 
You know this really sucks ass, everyone on here as got a different answer by a SPRINT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THATS NOT RIGHT. We should tried to email the CEO and telling him everything we been goin thru with our cell. Or better yet we should all go and returned the HERO and then they will get the message. lol
 
It will not be on the 9th, it is going to be closer to the end of the month. per tech support. I am not holding my breath though. It will come when in comes.

Would return if I could! Didn't start having major issues until about 2 months in to having it!
 
I just e-mailed Sprint today asking them if they had an estimated release date yet for Android 2.1 for the Samsung Moment and I got this reply:
