[ROM] - Themed ICS Venture Update - Jan. 22 2013

to* be honest, if your careful, its quite hard to brick your phone ++ we have a stock rom you can revert to if needed. but yes, FIRST THING IS GET CWM, and keep a copy of the stock rom on your sd card. you can find it in the sticky.

THIS IS IMPORTANT, not saying rom manager is not realiable, but its doesnt work well for this phone, and can leave behind crumbs.

figure id say it again. cwm dude.

http://androidforums.com/venture-al...very-cwm-virgin-mobile-venture-6-0-1-2-a.html <read this, and ask in there if you have problems. but read it all. im pretty sure 90% of problems that can happen have, and have been resolved

yup, most important step here is to flash cwm recovery and do a backup immediately after rooting! dont try flashing any roms until u have that backup made! also, if u want to bring ur apps to the new rom, look into an app called titanium backup... very useful. so, after u have rooted, flashed cwm recovery, and done ur stock backup, download the rom of ur choice (i suggest curtis's ICE themed rom, link is at the beginning of this thread) and save it to the root of ur sd card. turn ur phone off, boot into cwm recovery (keep home button held down while u turn on ur phone, dont release home until u are in recovery). go to "mounts and storage". format /boot, format /cache, format /data, format /system. press the back button to return to main menu. go to "advanced". wipe dalvik cache. hit back button to return to main menu. select "install zip from sd card". there is an option to find the zip on your sd card. select the rom that you put on your sd card's root earlier. wait for the install to finish, go back to main menu, and select the option to reboot. ta-da! u should have a beautiful new rom installed! enjoy!

when you install a rom from cwm, there is an option to update from zip, choose you own zip, then choose the one you dl'ed

correct me if im wrong but this is how i think its done

THANK YOU SO MUCH. wow. I have opened up a whole new can of techie geekie worms. this is too easy, I will be up all night til i get this just right just like when i opened the phone then got mad about google books and the lack of space to add all my apps. CAN i upload a zip from my computer i believe it is called side loading. I have to get used to this new language?

Where can i find what each appelet in busybox does or how i can use it. do i need to install those to continue my own custom rom?

and what are the shortcuts to navigate through the menu when the boot screne comes up i got the home/power button, enter is obvious, but up/down? I am sure there is a glossary somewhere

check out the sdk program. thats gonna b ur basis for communication between ur phone and ur computer. commonly useful tools in sdk are adb, fastboot, and ddmb. do ur research, and always make sure to do a cwm backup before u try anything, especially if u arent familiar with what ur doing. i had to learn that the hard way. ;-) as for busybox, im gonna let someone else take that one, as im not super familiar with a lot of its use. ur navigation buttons in recovery are gonna b volume up/down to scroll, back button to go backwards in menus, and enter to select. have fun, and feel free to ask questions! :D

just a huge note, when you flash this rom you must change your default ringtones to something other then silent. THAT is what was giving me the force close when i was getting incoming calls!

I'll check to see if there might be something wrong regarding the silent issue. but I never made edits in that regard.

im currently working on my first themed rom. im testing and working out every little bug i can find before i release a beta for public testing. so, in the next few days, keep ur eyes peeled for a new thread in the venture's all things root forum! i could use a few other testers to give it a go and give me some feedback before i release it as a final, so let me know if ur willing to beta test! thanks guys!

First, thanks to Curtis1973 for the ROM, and thanks to Dracable for pointing me to it. I have my new Venture rooted and this ROM installed (went smooth as silk!), but when trying to install Link2SD, I am getting the "Unable to create mount script" / "Invalid argument" error. I have googled this quite a bit, and most things just say "Use FAT32", "reformat the card" ,etc. I've done this, but still same result. I have a 8GB card, and have 2 partitions (both FAT32) -- 2nd partition (for Link2SD) is 512MB.

Is there anything about the Venture that might be giving Link2SD issues?

Thanks again!

why is link2sd on the 2nd partion?

>> why is link2sd on the 2nd partion?

That's how the Link2SD docs say to do it, and that's the way I've always done it in the past (on 4-5 different devices).

I don't think link2sd can use a FAT32 partition. Use EXT3 (or EXT2 or EXT4 I guess). I use EXT3.

I think I've always used FAT32 in the past, but I tried EXT3 to see if that would make a difference. Same result ("Invalid argument"). Oh well, not a huge deal since I'm only using this (at the moment) as an MP3 player. Not a big need to install a bunch of apps (yet).

Thanks to everyone for suggestions!

both primary, and when you load link2sd for the first time it will askk you what kind of formatting it has(if you have already miss chosen, clear data, force close, restart) you MUST choose the type you formatted it to, i find it easier to formet the two into two different formats, main(for songs and data) - fat32 / / and the 2nd partition(link2sd) - ext3. then when you open link to sd as stated above it will ask you what kind it is. pick ext3. and it will write it scripts, then REBOOT you phone, then you WILL be good to go. :)

WORKING!

Thanks much, varenHjames! I think the key was the "clear data" step. My last attempt *was* actually FAT32/EXT3 (both primary), but it still threw that invalid argument error when trying to create scripts. When I did Clear Data and a reboot, worked like a charm. Thanks again! (And sorry for the delayed response -- I haven't even been back to these forums since back before holidays.)

I didnt realize the rom link had went dead. Ive been gone for a long time. I will grab a copy from links available and rehost it on a more stable host. And since I am at it,any thing extra you guys would like me to edit or change? I know there is a very nice update to adw ex i can add..and that should speed this rom up even more. I can think of a few other things I can do..may even add another seperate rom that is themed totally in the mixer jelly bean cm10 styling. Ill check back later to see what you think.
