OK, with the phone plugged into the computer, press the windows key and type 'device manager'. Open the device manager and look for an entry called 'unknown device'

If you see an unknown device, right click the entry and select properties. Then click the driver tab and select update drivers. It should search for the drivers and once it locates them, you should then be able to see the phone.

If this doesn't work, then uninstall all Samsung related drivers and reinstall them. (Or uninstall then and then plug the phone in and it will install most of the for you)

First off I'd like to say thank you so very much for this wonderful guide. Though I needed a little help finding everything it helped me get my phone successfully rooted. Though today in my first day of having it rooted I found a few issues I kind of need worked out and hope someone here can help me with.

Issue 1) For some reason unknown to me sometimes when I'm in an App such as Netflix I am unable to answer my calls or sometimes don't even know I'm being called until the person that calls me text's me saying why aren't you answering your calls...

Issue 2) I'm not sure if this one is even possible but... I decided to root to also have a chance of using wi-fi tethering. If someone could help me get on the right track if it is even possible with this phone I'd be very grateful.

Issue 3) For a reason beyond me I can now not mount via USB cable in any way other then the recovery screen...

Okay I think that is the majority of them right now... Again any help I'd be very grateful for...

this could be due to the fact that the prevail doesn't have a whole lot ram. Apps such as Netflix may just take up too much resources.
Issue 2) I'm not sure if this one is even possible but... I decided to root to also have a chance of using wi-fi tethering. If someone could help me get on the right track if it is even possible with this phone I'd be very grateful.
download 'WiFi tether for root users'. Go into the settings and for device profile choose 'Samsung galaxy indulge' for setup method choose 'softap for Samsung (master)'. Then just turn it on.
Issue 3) For a reason beyond me I can now not mount via USB cable in any way other then the recovery screen...
try reinstalling the drivers. If that doesn't work check your device ,manager and see if there is an 'unknown device' listed. If so, right click it, select properties, then the driver tab, and select 'update drivers'
Okay I think that is the majority of them right now... Again any help I'd be very grateful for...

Edit 1 Part 1 (with corrections): Hmm what is strange to me is before I rooted my phone I used all the same apps I have now and got calls just perfectly fine they interrupted every app I used even Netflix before the calls and they came through. Which is annoying if you get a lot of calls trying to watch something but not as annoying as not being able to answer them at all now though sometimes it rings and just never pops up... It is more like the priority system is wrong but I have no idea how to fix it... Though I have had less problems with it by not using Netflix on my phone instead wi-fi tethering my Nintendo 3DS and watching Netflix on that. Still I'd like to be able to use both like I used to in case I am unable to carry my tethered device with me for some reason.

Issue 2) I'm not sure if this one is even possible but... I decided to root to also have a chance of using wi-fi tethering. If someone could help me get on the right track if it is even possible with this phone I'd be very grateful.

Edit 1 Part 2: Thanks for the info on this I'll try it out soon. I've tried it and it is working perfectly. Thank you so very much for the help on this issue.

Issue 3) For a reason beyond me I can now not mount via USB cable in any way other then the recovery screen...

Hmm turns out it was the phone just being a little quirky because I took it to another of my computers and it worked fine brought it back to the same computer with absolutely zero changes not even a reboot of the computer and now it works.

Edit 1 Part 3: I found another post-rooting issue for myself that you might be able to help me with. How do I get Google Play Services to install/work?

All the issues I've mentioned so far where post-rooting. I did have one pre-rooting though that I really have no idea how to deal with.

That issue was the Battery indicator for some reason even when unhooked always thinks it is charging. I've rebooted and even taken the battery out and everything I can think of to do. Help on this as well would be very welcome.

This page is so awesome. Especially because LordVincent90 keeps updating things! thanks a ton!

When I re-partition the SD card (and when I partitioned it originally,) it did not erase all the data on my card. I don't know if it deleted anything from my SDcard at all!

I don't know if this affects my subsequent installation of apps, but it seems really strange. I'm used to "format" commands destroying everything on the drive..what am I missing here?

Have a great day!

Did you repartition it using cwm or sdparted? Because both should have wiped the card...

hmm. How exactly would I do that? Thanks for your attention and help!

What I know for sure:
- the phone is using the SD as its internal memory
- using the 'manage applications' app, it's got about 500MB reserved for this - which fit the original partition size I chose
- using Titanium Backup (which I know I don't really need but I paid for it so I keep it) the sizes currently read:
System ROM: 168MB, 60.8MB Free
Internal: 503MB, 448MB Free
SD Card: 1.48GB 671MB free [the card is stock 2GB]

OK. So when you repartitioned it, what size did you choose? If you picked 500, then it seems all is well, if that's not what you chose, well then... it didn't work :D

well, today I chose 1024, so technically it didn't take, I guess. But I didn't fill up the 512MB, so I don't really mind.
I was really just curious about why the data would remain intact on my SD even through repartitioning and "formatting." It didn't delete the info on the card when I originally partitioned it either. Figured it was locking down some unused space and since it's not a hard disk, boot sector formatting would be irrelevant.

I must say, I am thoroughly impressed. Less than an hour, and I have it complete. Very nicely done! Only thing that was slightly annoying was getting Swype back, as its about the only thing I can use at work.

Goodness, I take a day off for a job interview (which i got) and you blow up mah thread....

Download CTmod from the thread listed at the top of the chapter. Koumakernel is included with it. Put them on your SD card via usb storage mode, either through the normal phone interface (plug in usb cable, select "usb connected" notification, click button) or through CWM (mounts and storage, mount usb storage). An autorun box will usually pop up on your computer, just select view files and folders. Or just open it in my computer. If you put the files on your SD card BEFORE you did the partitioning, they got erased.

I replied to your PM, but for the sake of those that follow, i'll repeat. CWM likes to reboot into CWM again after you flash something, just do another reboot without doing anything. If it still reboots into CWM, try powering off the phone and starting it up fresh.

While I've not tinkered with it in quite some time, i'm pretty sure you can use titanium backup (or maybe even the stock apps interface) to uninstall them. Just be careful not to uninstall anything important, there should be a link in the all-things-root thread that tells whats safe to remove.

The easier way is to install HalfAssRom, its a stock rom with all the bloat removed, and is compatible with koumakernel so you still get the automatic apps to SD support. Make sure to grab the koumamod.apk listed in the koumakernel thread to switch modes easily1
Hey i have a question, sorry if my problems lack a little desriptive but...
I was doing the ROM part and i had put both into the sd card file, i proceeded to do as told to in your manual and it doesnt say ct.mod it says something else like CT.final.prevail or something and in that file i dont see anything that you are saying to do in the one paticular portion also the koumar part isnt doing anything as well.

Ct.final.prevail is the newest version of ct mod. That is the one to use

What 'particular portion' aren't you seeing?

As for the koumamod part, did you install ct mod? Did you partition your card? What do you mean its not doing anything?

Thanks for making this so easy but I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to. I've been rooting my phone for the past 4 hours & my eyes are killing me. Is there a way to speed up my connection? I have 2 bars & the # beside it is 32. It was higher when I 1st rooted but has got slower as the day goes by. Any suggestions?

can we sticky this?

edit: sticky for the sdparter section. ie. how to set up swap properly. data or ssm mode, etc etc.

thx

If you're already running data mode, there are some additional steps to take... just running the app will probably result in an error regarding the partitions being in use (because they're being used for your data ;) )

So...
1. Make a backup! (Always make a backup ;) )
2. Factory reset (this switches back to default mode...)
3. flash this zip http://db.tt/AriQasB4 in cwm to install the sdparted app as a system app
4. Transfer contents of sdcard to pc (because this process will wipe it)
5. Boot system normally
6. Open sdparter app (should be in app drawer)
You will see the screen with sliders
screenshot-1352940797654.png

7. Move the top slider to the left ( this will reduce the size of the fat (main) partition and allow for a 4th one to be created
screenshot-1352940812447.png

8. Choose swap for the 4th partition by selecting the pulldown
screenshot-1352940828118.png

9. Move the 4th slider to the desired swap partition size
10. Once you have the desired size for both ext4 partitions AND the swap partition, move the fat (top) slider to the 'max' (whatever isn't being used by the other three partitions)
11. Press partition
12. Once it finishes, transfer your files back to sdcard then reboot into recovery and restore your backup.

It will take a while as it rebuilds the dalvik cache and once it fully boots, go into koumamod and direct swap to mmcblk0p4 (the newly created swap partition)

13. ????
14. profit

Im pullin my hair out here. I tried ssm and data mode. I keep getting "must disable a2sd utilities and unmount sd card partitions. i go into twrp, uncheck my mount boxes, same thing. what am i missing? (ct3.75.2)

edit- nm, ct mod must be "normal", neither data nor ssm for partition tool to partion the partitions. (goin for a "partition" word record)

edit- do i need 4 partitions or just sd, ext4 and swap?

What are you using that is mounting the partitions?(any apps2sd type apps?) Did you do this from a clean install as I suggested? Are you using the version of koumakernel that comes with ctmod?

yeah fresh install. discovered ctmod must be in normal mode. partitioning now....

CTmod 3.75.2 w/kk2.5

were do i find the mmoblk04 (swap location to point to)
APPRECIATE THE HELP LV, I TRULY DO.

I had that problem a while back and said the same thing and was using nothing either, I just used cwm and partitioned card to anything and then before format or anything went into sdparter and then it let me do what I wanted, don't know why?

Well i partitioned 3 partitions. 1 fat, 1 ext and 1 swap. should i do the 2nd ext4, instead of 1? Im not seeing the mmcblk04.

Ha! missed ur post by seconds... still no "mmc" anything that i find

do i need to switch to ssm or data?
