got my wife a nexus. downloade mskip's nexus toolkit. im assuming i downloaded the drivers cuz when i plug my phone in, the toolkit shows the phone's serial number up top. but when i try to boot unlock, the toolkit says waiting for device. can't go any further. im obviously missing something but don't know what. suggestions?
thanks

Hmmm, I would follow the guide by Urge in this forum. The PDAnet drivers he lists worked for me, I had issues with other ones I tried. It sounds like your issue is driver related.

ive downloaded all the proper drivers. when i go to device manager with the phone plugged in it shows samsung adb drivers installed. if i do max's manual unlock or the nexus toolkit, both say waiting for device. when im in fastboot mode, i think my computer is not recognizing my phone and that's why im getting the waiting for device line. is this right? i mean damn, i can't even get past the first part of this and ive rooted many times prior. wth!?!?!?!

Good deal. It's funny because with other phones we get used to complicated ways of unlocking and all in one packages to do it but with the Nexus it's so easy.

what happened was in device manager it was showing the samsung adb interface blah blah blah installed but when i looked farther down the list it said portable devices "device unknown". clicked on that and updated the software and boom, phone showed unlock bootloader screen. just got lucky or id still be trying to root. Now, on a side note...i want to save the apps to titanium backup. downloaded it and a screen pops up telling me i have to check "unknown sources" in settings - applications. where is that check box in applications?

It's in the Settings -> Security menu under the DEVICE ADMINISTRATION section.

Cheers!
