Root [GUIDE] Unbrick OR Unroot LG Motion 4G [KDZ]

I'm curious where you got this information. According to LG website, the chipset is MSM8960L. But I could not find the MSM8960L chipset anywhere on the qualcomm website

According to internal readings, both cores are capable of scaling all the way down to 384Mhz

[HIGH]# echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online # Turn on cpu1
# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies
384000 486000 594000 702000 810000 918000 1026000 1134000 1242000 1350000 1458000 1512000
# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies
384000 486000 594000 702000 810000 918000 1026000 1134000 1242000 1350000 1458000 1512000
# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq
1512000
[/HIGH]Then I used No-Frills CPU Control to set it to 384Mhz, and checked with the kernel. Both correctly set.
[HIGH]# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq
384000
# cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cpufreq/scaling_cur_freq
384000
[/HIGH]

I was supicious as soon as soon as I see where the charger port was located that this was a custom board or chip. Ive been ignoring the data provided by lg/ cpu info apps. Ive always believed this was an APQ8060 on a 45nm die, see the phone/ chip links below and frequency ranges.

Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8060 (Snapdragon S3) Multi-core Application Processor Datasheet | CPUlist | PDAdb.net

These guys also confirm this, with the regard too???

These believe otherwise.

Ive also been watching it in cpu info.
The primary core only appears to run at its clock speed when in use. It then falls back to either 384/486 when the screen is off (GPU/CPU are most likely on the same die), even more of a reason to keep that screen off - very minimal battery usage even when playing music etc. It may also run up to 1.1 when the screen is off and may also be the reason why his was playing up.

If it is a 8960 lite (as per their site/ cpu info apps) then I wonder why it was clocked up to 1500 from 1200 based on the following information, assuming L means lite.

I have used these steps before, but now my phone keeps bootlooping after this. I made sure all of the files were right and everything. What do I do? :(

I just found the answer by trial and error. Power on the phone holding Power+Vol Down

Cheers :p

EDIT:
sammyz, put that info in the OP
And be careful, because when the screen comes up it says "Push Power to erase". I almost wiped my damn phone. lol

Whoa my god?! I just booted into something called "Safe Mode" by booting up with the Vol Down key pressed....

A few questions from an Android newbie. I just got this phone two days ago, and since then have rooted it in order to get rid of the MetroPCS junk:

Since rooting it, I've noticed the battery getting hotter than I remember. I checked the default CPU speed and it was at 1.5Ghz, so I underclocked it back to 1.2GHz. However, I still notice it getting slightly warm whereas before I don't remember this. It gets to 32C during average use, which isn't bad by any means, but higher than it was before. I am puzzled what could have resulted in this change. Was it the rooting? Did I uninstall some MetroApp that managed the temperature? I'mt not sure.

What will unrooting my device do? Will it erase all my information and apps? Will it undo my changes? Will I have the bloatware again? I am mainly hoping that unrooting will get the temperatures to what they were before.

Thanks to anyone who can answer this. Excuse me, as I am very VERY new to Android phones and smartphones in general.

Unrooting will NOT erase any of your apps/text messages/pictures/etc. It only erases supersu/root/anything added to the system folder.

It will reinstall all uninstalled bloatware.

It will only undo any changes that required root.

So... I got my lg motion recently and decided to root it

I did and everything was successful

I installed that piece of ass shitting ******* ******** app "beats audio root app"

now, everytime i turn my phone on, i get the lg motion screen, it vibrates, and goes into a black screen and i can't do anything

i really need help with this cause im sorta new with all of this stuff

please

Read the guide and follow the directions. You do everything with your Windows PC. If you don't have Windows then you will have to borrow a friend's PC.

@kevinjaems
The process of rooting alone will have no affect on your phone performance or heat output. Zero, none, nada. But changing what apps your phone runs can significantly affect these things.

Your phone came from the factory clocked at dual core 1.5Ghz (as did many of our phones). It is an accident from LG. Rooting your phone did not increase your clock speed.

If you follow the unroot guide, it will

  1. Erase the settings of all your system apps
  2. Restore any system apps you erased
  3. Erase any new system apps you installed
It should not mess with your contacts, SMS/MMS, call logs, or any regular apps you have installed.

Here is the unroot guide if you choose:

Hey guys just started here today. IDK how many of you are still following this thread, but ill ask anyway. I am not sure the issue with my phone at the moment.

So i am rooted and my SD stopped working. (found out the SD actually will not work anywhere now) My reaction was to update since my phone had been prompting me to for a couple weeks. I forgot i was rooted. :o So now my camera is showing a black screen but i can still take pics. plus a lot of stuff crashes now ie. instagram, settings, camera. Stuff is just not working right. I am a little torn between trying this and not.

Any ideas the actual issue at hand though?

Edit: chrome is just giving me a white screen even when it us "loaded" and gallery gives me tan screen for any pics. Unless i zoom in

You might be able to get away with Factory Resetting your device, but if that doesn't work, then you'll have to follow the unbrick guide. Personally though, I'd rather just use the unbrick guide (as I have done many times before), because it doesn't erase all my contacts, MMS, and user apps.

Unbrick guide formats and reinstalls /system and other partitions. It doesn't touch /data.
Factory reset formats /data.
I recommend unbricking first and if that doesn't fix it, factory reset it. If your micro sd card won't work in any other device, it is broken for sure.

Hello. I am at the last step "update and enjoy". However, the program Softare update [KDZ] is showing (Not Responding). Is this just the process of the upgrade or does this mean it is failing to upgrade.

If it is failing to upgrade I'll know within the next hour if it is still stuck like that. However, what should I do to safe unplug it?

And after I have it unplugged do I just start the process again?

Any Advise would be appreciated :)

UPDATE:::
Apparently, nothing started. I closed the program and unplugged the phone still in E-mode. I held down both volume buttons and power button for about 10 seconds and the phone powered off. I powered it back on as if nothing ever happened. Any Ideas where I went wrong?

Just wait and it should start responding and flashing. If it does nothing after 10 minutes, start over with the flashing part. Also pull USB cable out, pull battery and reinsert battery and USB cable before trying to flash again.

thank you guys for responding. I didn't check the forum last night so I didn't see that you guys all responded. I ended up just re rooting the phone. And everything is great back to normal. Found a working sd. 8gb does not compare to my 32gb but it works. I really didn't know they could mess up that bad.... But thanks for the help

ok i dont get why this isnt working. I installed drivers and all the way up to step14 it says extracting file error. I have everything up right but at that point i cant get it.

Your phone is in emergency/download mode right? Did you let the cab to kdz file conversion finish i.e. it said "done"?

Are you sure your lg driver installed correctly? i mean can you use adb? if you can, then driver is setup right.

That's really all i can think of that can go wrong, besides clicking the correct options and the like...I hope you get it man.

yea the drivers are installed correctly i know for sure. And the progam didnt say it was done and i left it alone for about 15-20mins after i clicked cab-> KDZ.
