I'm not sure if this has been touched on, but with respect to the AMOLED screen on the Nexus One that was discovered to have a special resolution interpolation by using a non-standard subpixel set-up (pentile?), does anyone know if this is the situation with the Desire? I only ask because I know the 3.7" AMOLED displays for HTC were acquired from Samsung, and I'm wondering if the same display that's in the Nexus One is in the Desire and ultimately in the Incredible. Just wondering if we'll be getting a true WVGA resolution display or not in this phone. Not sure if anyone out there has analyzed the Desire, but if it follows suit with the N1, I'll assume the Incredible will also.

Anyone concerned about battery life? I guess we won't know until reviews come out, but I, for one, am a little concerned.

(Wonderful news today, sorry to be a downer...)

Battery life is my only possible concern with this phone. That is one of the things that I will miss about my blackberry.

In regards to the tethering plan....

The Plam Pre Plus is currently offering the free tethering plan.

Could you...

Purchase the palm pre- get the voice/text/data/tether service.

Return the pre when the Inc comes out... get the Inc. But still hold onto the same service?

So in essence... Free tethering for the Inc.

???

Just an idea. If this is stupid... Simply reply with, "Stupid."

now THAT'S a GREAT question! good job kyler13, i was wondering the same thing about a week or so ago when that story broke and forgot all about it in the shuffle of the last few days. There was a lab that did a nice investigation and write-up but i can't find it now...can you post if you have it?

Are we really having "fake" discussions again??? come on guys... We have better things to discuss than that. Anyone who points at inconsistencies, spelling errors, etc... has never worked for a Fortune 500 company and been a part of change management.
I have a set of manuals and instructions how to do my latest job, prob about 500 pages or so, and it gets updated every year. It also comes with (about a month or so later) about 20 pages of Errata aka errors to fix.

I know I'm not the first to notice this, but how is this thing only barely bigger than the droid eris. I'm not complaining, in fact, the opposite. I love the look and feel of my eris. I can't wait for better specs without adding any bulk.

Here are the eris stats

Dimensions4.45" x 2.19" x 0.52" (113 x 55 x 13.2 mm)

Overall dimensions are similar, but screen size is larger, No?

You guys, please forgive me. I'm not tech savvy AT ALL. Trying to get this together was like pulling teeth, and it's not even that good...I thought this might just be a VERY basic help to some people...if it's not, or inaccurate, please disregard!!

EDIT: Things like this should be left to anonimac...

I just have ZERO inside info, so I try to contribute where I can...
One thing I noticed regarding the connectors.
The incredible has 3.5" jack and USB.
The iPhone does not have USB, it has its own proprietary iPod/iPhone connector which allows charging, data but also audio and video output.

Hey, guys, long time lurker here. Just wanted to come out of the shadows and thank you all for all the information you've worked so hard to dig up and for keeping us lurkers entertained when there wasn't much info to get. Reading your posts made waiting for Verizon to get off their lazy butts a lot more bearable.

I keep seeing people complain about the SD Card placement. How often do you people remove it? If the phone can act as the "channel" for the SC Card and you can upload and download from it then how many *uckin* times do you really need to remove it?

I hate the extra rubber covers on my phone with the SD Storage on the outside but I never remove the card. Quit being picky and be glad there is a device that smokes both the iPhone and the EVO. Whiney *itche* (And the first star is a "B" and the second an 'S")

:) Hehehehe.

This is going to be my first accessory.

I spend too much time using emulators

So I hope I don't get yelled at too much, but this is kind of on topic. I have a question about Microsoft ActiveSync that's in the UG. The manual says that you can only sync up Outlook 2003 and 2007 accounts. My work still uses Outlook 2000 (yeah I know, but they cry broke all the time) and syncs flawlessly with my BB Storm (also can't wait to chuck it in the ocean).

Will I be able to get my work email pushed using this new (to me) android platform? Or will it not be compatible since its saying only 2003 and 2007 versions? I'm not even sure what "ActiveSync" is and I don't think I am using it on my blackberry. I think I am just using POP3 or IMAP......I don't know

would love to but i know the eris didnt come with a user guide (had to download it) and it doest appear the INC will either...so on to option two. Anyone that had trouble downloading and getting corruption messages how did you get around it?

I downloaded from one of the mirrors posted.

It wasn't an Acrobat Reader problem, anti-virus problem or anything like that. I have a degree in computer science and couldn't get it to download either. Thought that might make those that couldn't get it to download and had people making them feel stupid feel a little better.

It wasn't a corrupted file either. I simply wouldn't download. I didn't bother investigating further because I saw the mirror first. Oh and I'm on Linux with Chromium (dev build of Google Chrome) so it's probably something on the server side considering that's probably not a common setup here.

In regards to the Desire and the Incredible not being fraternal twins of internal design, I am more than happy with it if the Incredible does not have the sd card blocked by the battery. Both Motorola and HTC have a recent habit of making devices that require battery removal to access the memory card. HD2 is one of the recent few to not do this for high end phones- N900 is another (I have one) that does not require battery removal , but made by Nokia.

That being said, if the Incredible turns out to be the same as the Desire and the manual is wrong- that would be one messed up manual ;)

Look, guys. Instead of badgering the few people around here with real information (if I see one more "ZOMG WHAT IS NKT DOING RIGHT NOW??"...) people could try Googling things for basic information. This includes information about what plans Verizon offers and how to deal with Android, since this is a thread about one specific phone.

How to disable Sense UI on any HTC Android phone with Sense UI (which includes the Incredible)
• Press MENU button.
• Press Settings.
• Press Applications.
• Press Manage Applications.
• Wait for the OS to compute application usage.
• Scroll down the list until you see HTC Sense and select it to go to the Application Info page.
• Press the Clear Defaults button.
• Press the HOME button. You will be prompted to select which app to compete the action with. Select Home and chose to make this the default action.

Regarding the Palm Pre Plus tethering app: Pre runs WebOS, which is a different than Android. The phone uses an app called Mobile Hotspot that is only available from Verizon on the Palm Pre's app store. The plan is no longer charged at a rate of $40 bucks a month like it did on launch; now it shows up at free on check-out and on Verizon bills. There's no way to do the same thing to the Incredible since the application doesn't exist for Android. There are *other* ways of tethering, but history has shown us that Verizon charges other smart phone users for the privilege of tethering on their Android and Windows Mobile phones.

User guides (which, who honestly would even both faking that up for 200+ pages) are normally smaller in size but are *sometimes* reformatted for the web. If you look at the info screen posted later, it claims that the UG is NOT included in the box. That would say to me, as just a guess: Verizon is trying to be "green" since most people throw those things away and directing people to just read it online. My lady's Palm Pre Plus had it, but that's a different type of consumer (remember the Mom commercials?) that actually needs User Guides. That said, it could just be a redone version that was exported on April 6 in Adobe InDesign CS2 by someone who's name initials are BP in an easier format for Verizon to post online. Who knows? But the suggestion that this could be fake really grinds my gears.

I love this forum, and there's been a real positive vibe around since we finally have the lust-worthy phone coming out. But let's just take it down a few notches, start using our brains/Google a little bit and stop freaking out on each other when we don't have even more insider info and smuggled corporate espionage hours after our relative embarrassment of riches that we've had this morning.

And remember: The Incredible is coming!

Sorry if this has been asked (too much added today). But, do we know when VZ or Bestbuy will actually announce the coming of the messi..., uh, I mean, the Incredible
