No HDMI output?

Am I missing something or is there just not an HDMI output on the Note 2?
If there's not, how do I stream from my phone to my tv? :confused:
 
If your TV has DLNA, you could stream wirelessly to your TV. Otherwise you will need to buy adapter to connect to TV's hdmi.
 
Is this the adapter I would need?
Side note....I asked Samsung this question & 2 agents told me they do not have product information in their database for this device.

No. That adapter is for users that already have the 5pin MHL adapter. The older MHL adapters will not work with the S3 or Note 2 as the pins have been remapped.

Look for S3 or Note 2 MHL adapter. Make sure it is an 11pin connector.

The 5pin>11pin adaptor tip is on there, but I think you can go with the 11 pin adaptor:

Or you can always get the Note 2 Smart Dock, which has been sold out on Samsung's website for the past 3 months.

I think we were posting at the same time. :-) Will the $10 option work for what I'm trying to do or do I need to get the $30 one? I noticed it has to be plugged in to a power supply to work. I had no idea what a pain this would be. Amazon has an HDMI cable on sale for less than $3 today so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try streaming video from my phone.

Whiskey, theoretically (in my head), I kept thinking to myself that all of the micro-HDMI>HDMI chords out there that were developed for LTEvo or other MHL enabled devices should work. I just couldn't tell you for sure, if they would.

I opted for the Samsung products, using the 50% off coupons, but I think it'd be worth a shot just trying to purchase the MHL chords...if the price is fairly inexpensive. Quite honestly, you'd be the guinea pig because I haven't seen many peeps on here try it.
 
The reviews for the less expensive one on Amazon aren't very good for streaming video. Their prices aren't much cheaper than Samsung's website after the 50% off coupon. I guess I just need to bite the bullet & spend the $20 for the Samsung adapter.

I did manage to get a straight answer from Samsung finally & they confirmed what I already found out in this forum. This is what I would need.

**Edit ** I think Samsung referred me to the wrong adapter. Everything I've read says the one that works for the original Note & the S2 is the old 5 pin. The reviews for the one I posted here are from Note & S2 users. I believe the link I previously posted (11 pin) is the right one.

Yeah. I went the safe route too, but in the past, I would've experimented (like many of us did with the EVO, since there weren't very many accessories for it at launch).
 
I think my best bet is going to be to spend the big bucks on the Smart Dock if I want to stream video. It seems like with all of the technology we have these days there would be a simpler way to do this. My techy knowledge is limited but why is Bluetooth or NFC not an option?

Not enough bandwith and pretty high latency. Good for small data transfers but not for HD video

If you are not using it to play android game on the TV, you could also look into AllShare Cast Dongle. It is the same price as the Smart Dock, but wireless. From what I read, the smart dock has usb ports to connect your keyboard, mouse, or even PS3 controller, and it does a better job of mirroring your phone screen without much delay. The AllShare Cast Dongle has some delay but you won't see it when only streaming video and not playing games.

I would get either one of them, if only they were not backordered! I think they will be back in stock when my 50% off coupon expires. :p

From my understanding, you can also use the USB ports on the Smart Dock to connect external hard drives, which is the primary reason I purchased it.

For those that don't want to wait for the Smart Dock to get back in stock on Samsung's website, shopandroid.com has it for 89.99 (free shipping + no tax in CA).
 
If you guys are interested, the AllShare Cast Wireless Hub (Dongle) is back in stock at Samsung. It is not bad with the 50% off coupon!
 
I don't have wifi so if I'm not mistaken, All Share won't work for me. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've had this phone for a month & a half & still haven't figured out the function of a lot of the stock apps, much less how to use them.
Side note (Drex, you might have input on this.) I thought Sprint said they would allow their customers to remove the bloatware going forward from the HTC Hero (I think that was the timing). I can't remove many of the apps that came with the phone & will never use a lot of them.

On the Allshare front: You do not need separate Wi-Fi on the premisis to use the Alshare Dongle. That has a Wi-Fi receiver in it I believe to connect your phone directly to the telly. The dongle plugs in to the HDMI port and then talks wirelessly directly to the phone. Samsung TVs that support Allshare natively may or may not have their own Wi-Fi or may need to be plugged into a router that does. This would need to be investigated on a case by case basis.

Will Allshare work on a NON Samsung tv? Or is that the purpose of the hub?
