sorry to sound like a idiot, but i'm new to some of this.
what is the purpose of getting a invite to GV ? is this something that is needed?

http://www.google.com/voice

That link gives you two links to get all the info on GV. Yes, you DO have to have an invite. You can ask for one on the forum setup here on androidforums.com (but they've asked not to have any more requests on this thread) or you can buy one on ebay for as little as $0.99. Google Voice isn't "needed" per se but it has a lot of features and allows you to do things on your phone for free that you'd normally have to pay your carrier for (ie texting).

can you also get them right from google website?
JR

No, not yet. It's still in beta and an invite only product.

Can someone please explain Google Voice to me or tell me a site that explains it? Sounds like you have to have a invite to get it. Is that true. You guys are great on this forum even though you keep me up all night reading all the post.

http://www.google.com/voice

Everything is explained here. Yes, you DO have to have an invite (see above)

I only have one phone so not sure this is for me...

UNLESS...I could effectively block an unlimited number of callers by routing them to a fictitious phone # like 555-555-5555!

Is that possible?

I would guess that would be possible but I think you can already do that via your existing GV account. See here:

Blocking unwanted calls : Privacy and Security - Google Voice Help

it has a bullet in the EG that says;
OS: Android 2.1, Google Experience Device

Exactly. That's where I saw the Google Experience statement and wondered about it.

Definitely. Since this is a discussion thread it's hard to keep up, especially for those of us who joined when the UG was leaked...

I've also just recently figured out that since multiple people are posting at the same time, when you load a new page and then reload that same page, you sometimes get additional posts that were in the process of being written when you first loaded the page. VERY confusing because it changes all the subsequent post numbers.

Does anyone know of a good comparison of Android vs Iphone? Preferably one that favors Android that I can use to show why my Incredible is better than friends/coworker Iphones? Maybe a Nexus one vs Iphone comparison would be the closest? Thanks in advance.

Haven't read through them all but here you go:

Choosing a Smartphone, Part 3: Android vs. iPhone | These are the Droids

Nexus One Vs. iPhone Info-Graphic: Googlephone Wins | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

10 ways the Nexus One slays the iPhone (updated) | The Apple Core | ZDNet.com

Nexus One vs. iPhone 3GS - CNET Prizefight - CNET.com

Did this website just crash for a little while?

It wasn't loading for like 5 minutes

Yes.

Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking here for some time, but thought I would relay my experience at a Verizon Wireless store in Richmond, VA this afternoon.

I was speaking to one of the sales individuals regarding a USB modem for my folks since they have limited choices when it comes to internet services at their house in the country.

Well, I could overhear one of the other sales guys talking about the Incredible, so naturally, I had to ask my guy about it. He knew exactly what I was talking about and mentioned that they had some training on the device already. He mentioned that it would be out "soon", but didn't have a definitive date. He seemed genuinely excited about the device, which I found to be a good sign.

Additionally, he said he believes that there is a good chance that the iPhone would be coming to Verizon as well. Naturally, I asked him if he had to choose between the two phones which he would go with. Somewhat surprisingly, he said he would go with the Incredible.

Not a whole lot of new information, but still found it exciting and wanted to share.

So MM and Kappy what is it? Less then 2 hours till your free? Have you two thought of what your first post will be as free men?

Most likely a new thread on battery saving techniques for the incredible. The writing is on the wall for me. I can't really eff around. I'd probably be banned next time. So I'll just try to stay out of conversation and just post helpful things.

I'm in Richmond right now too! Which store which store??

JUST A REMINDER....

BE SURE TO PAY YOUR VZW BILL ON TIME. Corporate stores, customer service, and vzw.com will not allow you to upgrade if you have a past due balance. A current balance is cool, but you no will getty the Incredible if you no pay pay past due bill bill.

party pooper. ;)

thats he same price as this one...but this one comes with an adapter. idk if that interests you or not.

Ridata 16GB MicroSDHC Class 6 MLC Flash Memory Card with SD and Mini SD Adapter - Retail Pack - SuperMediaStore.com

I'm still back to the question echoed by several others on the forum. Does anyone have info (or know where we could find info) on what the read/write speed to the micro sd card will be? There isn't a reason to pay 2-3 times more for a class 6-10 card if the phone can't write faster than a class 2 or 4.

omg hahhahaahaa

edit: I showed it to my mom and she might get it and give me the $50 :D :D :D

wonder if you can do that and then trade in the Eris for the Incredible within the 30 days...then you'd get the Incredible for essentially $50 less

I also plan on editing the battery saving thread once the phone comes out and I play with it more. I will encourage you all to do the same and post helpful, useful information and your own experiences (pertaining to battery saving techniques) on that thread. I think it could help a lot of us incredible users and other users of rechargable batteries.

I am a smartphone noob so I want to get as much (important) info on that thread as possible and keep it localized to 1 thread.

so i received my 4th tour replacement for trackball issues, and this one sucks too, so I called VZW and complained.....I have never gotten anywhere with them before complaining but I got a girl who is going to give me the 2yr price on a phone WHENEVER I find one (incredible here i come!!!!!) she also said there are some new phones coming but wouldnt say anything about the incredible specifically.....but sweet! later blackberry/trackball, hello INCREDIBLE!

on the site if you click on the trade in thing it says you can get $130 for trading it in! so basically you can make $180! :D then do it again and again and eventually bankrupt the site..... no don't do that I didn't give you that idea! ;)

Hey, phone disposal question: Does anyone have a recommended cell phone disposal method? Any certain entity that is reputable? I have two others at home besides the one I am going to dump when this little savior comes out, and I want to make sure I give/send my phones to a reputable firm that will process them properly. I am in Chicago if anyone knows of anyone local. I found a couple on Google, etc., but I also hear stories about how some firms just turn around and take them to the dump or otherwise don't send them where they way they're going to.

Thank you.

"Lets get Social" sounds like Skype to me...

I got an email from Skype on my Droid Eris earlier today that announced free Skype-to-Skype calls and IM worldwide. That would seem to meet two of the three points in the email, "It's time to share" and "Let's get social." I don't know what those two would have to do with the HTC Incredible anyway. As for the third line about being new and unique and exclusive to Verizon Wireless, does any other carrier offer Skype Mobile? Here's the Verizon page with the information:

Skype Mobile Phone | Skype Cell Phone | Skype Calling

EDIT: Oops, sorry, that was a link to a Skype page, not a Verizon page.

VZW: We dont have a date yet, at least not knowledged here, but we never know till about 2 days before we are supposed to sell them, they kind of just "arrive" here. I would go online to like Endgadget or some site like that. I hear there is a thread on an Android forum thats got tons of info on it.

Steven beats his chest and exclaims: Yeah! AF Rocks!

can you sell them? if not then donate them to the battered women's shelter.

Full page color ad in the Washington Post this morning, pushing guess what?

DROID DOES APPS

Its actually a pretty good ad, but its another example of VZW pushing their Droid branding. Seems odd that they are not leveraging all this investment by releasing the Inc as a Droid Somethingorother.

So long as we have the Inc in our hands by the end of April, I could care less about their marketing. Still, it seems like a major opportunity lost for VZW.

I'm speculating this is all about the large inventory they had/have built up of the Droid. Everyone I know that has one, really likes it. I bet it's sales fall way off once the Inc is available for sale though...

you could join swagbucks (i can refer you) and since april is green month for them. you can get swagbucks for your phones...or i can just have yours and i'll get some swagbucks. :)

what kind of phone anyways?

Maybe I am way off base, but, why can't this be three seperate announcements that total the 6-7 devices:

- It's time to share: Clearly talking about the "pink" devices.
- Let's get Social: Could mean almost any phone/netbook device.
- It's new, It's unique...: This could be the Incredible.
Just my interpretation.

I agree that it's probably more than one announcement. Though I'd interpret the first as something to do with Family Share plans, maybe? And I'd think the second would be the "pink" devices, since they're geared toward social networking. And hopefully you're right about the third!

Ok guys, I'm back after pumping some serious iron. Muscles are big...word to the wise: don't mess with the ol' man! ;)

I'm all caught up although I skimmed a bit through the BS, except my BS, which is vintage BS, of course.

Carry on. :)

@NKT

Any chance you can compare the Incredible test phone battery to the Eris one? If I remember right, they are the same mAh size. I'm just thinking, if they are physically the same, then theoretically you could get the Seidio 1750 mAh battery for the Eris and use it in the Incredible.
I think this got buried or it was posted already and I'm getting the stiff shoulder. Either way, if anyone can point me in the right direction... :)
