Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

I haven't gotten the Elite just yet, but I wanted to know:

What does the lock screen look like? Is it like Tagged's lock screen?

No, and this is stated in the features section of the OP. The truth is, if you have anything set with the stock lock screens, Holo Locker screws up and causes problems. As such, Holo Locker, which is of course free to download from the Play Store, is not included in the ROM. You still have your four stock options though, 3 of which are more secure than one of them or Holo Locker. But if you do like Holo Locker, again you can install it from the play store.

This is to be how Stock truly should have been, meaning no frills and no bells and whistles (minus extended power menu and theming), just improving upon the original design (though heavily).

As far as I can tell, there's four things that can be done. The first, is that you could also use the stock Mms.apk (there are instructions in Hydra, or posted throughout this thread, as to how to do this) in place of the one included in Sleipnir. The second, is to create a custom theme for it yourself, as there are only a few versions of the Mms.apk that work for our phone. Third, is to head to this thread and pick one you might like better (how to switch them out is found in numerous posts in this thread and the one for Hydra). Fourth and final, is to download a better SMS/MMS app, such as GO SMS, free from the Play Store. Unfortunately, the options are limited.

I second the vote for Go SMS, it's a decent replacement with a lot of added features like batch deleting, and text scheduling. I'm a big fan of Go launcher as well.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'll look into Go SMS and if it doesn't stack up to my expectations, then i guess it's time i learn how to theme things myself. :)

I extracted the mms.apk from the ICS Elite Rom in system/app/ directory and I use that one. It's a black background and has a nice darkish lightish blue color for the txt. It is a little difficult to see if you have an unread message tho as it just makes the persons name a little more bold. But it's different then the rest of the mms.apk's. :]
 
Since I have flashed the newer version of this ROM for Sprint (cant recall which one) a lot of apps have been removed from the PlayStore such as Facebook, Facebook Messenger, TextPlus, PicRoullette etc. So I switched to Hydra because I didn't have any earlier versions of the ROM on my phone or computer and it fixed the problem so I know it was this ROM that was causing the issue. I was wondering if you changed the build.prop or if anyone else was encountering a similar problem.

The easiest way would be to install hashtag's theme chooser and apply a theme, even the sleipnir theme, or go back a build or two, I think it was just changed in 2.3.8. . http://androidforums.com/elite-all-things-root/664159-theme-chooser-some-other-things.html Just make a backup first as I don't know if you can go back to the way it was before switching themes.

You have did some excellent work with combining everything. :) It looks awesome. I know I have not been on an a long time but issues have prevented that. I am appreciative that you all added my small contribution into this awesome and looks like top rom for the elite. Thank you Artine. :)
 
For some reason, since switching from Tagged to Sleipnir 2.3.8, my phone randomly switches to settings, regardless of what app I'm in and more often when I'm in landscape mode. I don't know if it's the rom itself, but I made sure to do a clean install of it, and I don't have any different apps than I did before.

Does anyone know the cause of this or how I could remedy the problem?

I would just try again. Wipe cache, dalvik, data, system, and flash it again. Maybe also try re-downloading it.
 
I've been getting a bug where my Gallery keeps FCing. If I'm sending an MMS and try to attach a picture and choose Gallery to complete the operation, it FC. If I try to open Gallery through the App Drawer, I get a FC. I have to use a file manager to look at my images.

I've completely wiped the phone and flashed the ROM again, still happens. Any ideas what I should do?

I've had the same issue, wiped everything, did a fresh ROM install and still have the issue. But I just use QuickPic to bypass it, I just ignore that I even have the Gallery app anymore.

Either try a reflash, or just use 'quickpic', it's loads better.


Edit, I see Drae covered those already, lol. Then you can freeze the stock gallery app off your not going to used it with, app quarantine.

In fact actually I just used Link2SD to fully uninstall the Gallery app, and set QuickPic to my default, haven't had an issue since haha.
