Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

UPDATE: Also, it looks like much of the problem with the upcoming Sprint build was compression and kernel issues. They've been resolved, but a Sprint-specific kernel is going to have to be made/modified to get the Search Button Remap working for Sprint users.

EDIT: I'm working on modifying giantpune's most recent kernel.

It should also be noted that I'm considering splitting Sleipnir again (like how I did with Hydra). Just an idea I'm toying with. putting up the How-To for the Search Button Remap as an additional piece to Hydra, so that users can add it manually if they wish. I decided to go ahead and do it - the Hydra ROM page has been updated with how to add it to your ROM pre-flash. Sleipnir's meant to be the improved Stock, so that's what I'm sticking to.

Worked perfectly! Thanks.

Glad to hear it :)

2.3.8 is working splendidly! I unintentionally flashed the Sprint-flavored version, but so far so good. are there any possible repercussions in doing so that anyone is aware of?

visually, the new improvements are delicious! the notification bar looks premium & now that we have a dedicated boot animation, I feel this is a fully vindicated and legit ROM.

thanx.

Yes. They're specific to each ROM, and with the completely different build.prop you are very likely going to have issues with data, downloading, etc., that pilot03 had when he was testing the first Sprint version of Sleipnir and the build.prop was Virgin Mobile. He was kind enough to send me his Sprint build.prop, which fixed all of those problems. Simply flash the Virgin Mobile build, and you'll be good to go.

Other than that, thank you :) And I'm glad you're enjoying it :)

Im jonesing like the first guy in line for a new apple device to upgrade my cell phone, but I can't live without the easy long distance tethering I get with my Optimus V [no root, foxfi]

Anyone done any tethering testing with this rom?

right now I can leave my OV in my bedroom, go out side and into the work shop [70ft away, many walls] and my Android tablet can still get a decent WiFi signal.

If your tablet can accept an ad-hoc connection it will work fine. As all the usual root tethering apps work.

If you need a regular wifi tether, then pay for the native one you get from VM. Only certain phones can use infrastructure tethering with the newest update of Wifi Tether For Root Users.

then pay for the native one you get from VM.

I don't speak that language, I have a $25mo GF plan that ive used a modest 5-6GB per month since getting, they don't bother me for more, I surly wont ask to pay more.

but if I have to go to a $35mo plan for a better phone, I want the same bang for my buck.

Another's option might be to mod your tablet to accept ad hoc. Most popular tablets have a modded WPA_supplicant to allow the tablet to work with ad hoc. Rooting is required. Just look for your tablet and wifi ad-hoc fix, to see if ones is available.

I got my tablet to connect to my elite by changing out the wpa_supplicant file on my tablet with one thats been modified to see ad-hoc networks. I had to try a couple out before I found one that works and sometimes it takes a few tries but once it's conected it's solid and fast.

edit: sneaky_1 beat me to it... you just need one for the android version you run though it doesn't have to be for your specific tablet.

Hmm maybe, they are rooted.

course if I had a better phone, id do less tethering as I could do what I wanted on my phone, other then using a tablet as an extension of it.

We'll since my mom's old phone broke she's going to be using my old optimus elite. I hope you keep doing great work Artine, this rom really does change the phone.

Artine have you looked into the INT2EXT script I was talking to you about? I tried it back on 2.1.2 but nothing happened.

I believe he did but it didn't work correctly sadly.

Hey Artine, I have a question for you... I'm gonna be passing my Elite to my.girlfriend.next month sometime and I was wondering after I factory reset it and it will finally be able to use Roms correctly would I be able to use this theme on top of Sleipnir? http://androidforums.com/elite-all-...purple-power-widget-ics-theme-add-edited.html I want to use the Purple one since she likes it. :]

From the looks of it, you have to alter your partition sizes/layout in order to get it to work. Unfortunately, I've been sick the past day or two, but I will be looking into that again (it's on my to-do list).

In theory, yes. For the altered Settings, simply swap the Settings.apk in /system/app with the themed one. As for the rest of the theme (read: most of the theme), open up both the framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk, and drag the contents from the following directory into the same directory of the respective Sleipnir /system .apks (the directory of the .apks is the same): /res/drawable-mdpi. That will copy over all of the themed files and change the theme to the purple you're looking for.

If you want to retain the battery icon from Sleipnir, don't copy over the battery .pngs, same goes for the rest of it. What you might want to do is work with Hydra, as by default it does not come with the modified power menu (you'd have to do some .apk replacing to get a modified theme to work with Sleipnir in /system/framework, and some .xml replacing as well, it's pretty complicated) but it has all of the backbone (all /system attributes/modifications/upgrades) of Sleipnir. I would recommend using Hydra for her future ROM - based on Sleipnir, with all of the stock apps and theming, and thus you can tailor it specifically to her, theme and all.

To get it to work?

Also, if you were talking about the Sleipnir framework-res.apk not working correctly with UOT, there is a reason Hydra is out. Sleipnir's framework-res.apk has had its xml modified, among other things, and also has some necessary files added in to get the extended power menu to function. It's not going to work properly in something like UOT kitchen, so you'll have to modify things by hand. Or, simply use what Hydra has, which is a stock framework-res.apk which will work correctly. If you want to add some elements from the Sleipnir framework-res.apk back into your now-modified framework-res.apk, open both .apks up and navigate to their /res/drawable-mdpi folders, and look for the files you want to add for theming and icons, and drag them on over into your modified one to keep those aspects in place. It sounds complicated, but it's pretty simple.

Just started getting a force close when trying to add or edit a contact.

android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly

Attached to this post are the two Contacts-relevant .apk files in /system/app that are on the test build and working correctly. My apologies for letting you hang for so long, that was unintentional. As per usual, simply drop them into /system/app, reboot into recovery, wipe the dalvik cache a few times, and reboot normally, and you should be good to go.

I just flashed this ROM on my Sprint OE. So far it's really nice, I like it. An issue I discovered today though, is that that the themer didn't do a very good job of theming mms.apk. I can't really tell at a glance what threads have new responses to them.

Does anyone know where I can find a good themed mms.apk that works for this phone/ROM?

Thank you.
