Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

Emergency! I went to format the System, Cache, and Dalvik Cache, after doing so i go to select from the main menu to flash from zip, and it won't let me select anything now. Just shows the background logo kinda come up then goes back to main menu!

Is that all you formatted?

The old bootanimation was better. Any way to change it back?

You can do so manually, there's a link to it in Hydra.

unplugged the battery and the phone bootloops, great. What do I do from here now..

You do not have to wipe/format anything prior to installing Sleipnir. This is stated in the Installation section of the OP (and posts afterwards :p ). That being said, turn the phone off, and while powering it back on hold down the Volume Down ( - ) button until your phone boots into Recovery (which it should, because you didn't erase CWM), and restore from a Nandroid backup. Then you should be just fine. Otherwise, since that's all you wiped, simply install the .zip and you'll be fine.

However, if you can't boot into recovery:
Well your phones boot looping now because there's nothing to boot because you formatted all that. As far as restoring things from here, I'm unfamiliar with so someone else will have to assist you

Edit: Have you taken a look at this thread yet? Unbricking your Sprint or Virgin Mobile USA phone using official tools and dll and bin files - Android Forums

Go ahead and follow the steps provided in that link, that should get you back on your feet. When trying to install a ROM, if it's Sleipnir or Hydra remember that you no longer have to do anything manually - the installer does it for you :).

Oh jesus thank you. forgot I could go back into Recovery. It's flashing now, hope I didn't mess anything up.

Nice boot animation.

ROM looks solid. I would personally do without the extra apps. Unless they're replacing apps already on there.

Like the Stopwatch/Flashlight

I wish we had a nice clock app that had Alarm, Clock, Stopwatch all built in like Jellybean 4.2 now.

Flashlight, don't really need.

I'm just nitpicking at this point tho.

I forgot about that one little detail of still being able to boot into recovery manually....lol haven't had to for a while.

Lol.....so then The ROM hydra is what you're looking for.

Kind of. I like most of the customizing that has been done on this one. Hydra is more barebones.

I just don't prefer the "extra" apps. 2.3.7 or whatever one I was on earlier was great. Just a couple issues (No Screenshot) bugged me.

Are gapps no longer included? Navigation/Maps is missing.
Read the updated OP. Why were Navigaion/Gmail removed? I feel like those are somewhat a staple for this cell.

Certain user apps have been omitted due to the frequency of their updates. To relieve the headache of having to continuously release updates of the ROM they have been excluded.
The essentials are still there and Screen shot is there just not in the power menu for aforementioned reasons.

Hydra is not barebones at all. It's stock, with all of the background/backbone of Sleipnir, meaning that it's stock with the improved modifications. Meaning it comes with all of the apps that the phone did out of the box. Which means a lot of bloatware. The reason for this being that everyone has access to everything - both all the important components of Stock that can be modified at whim, and all of the improvements made from combining four ROMs and improving upon the combination by the community. It's the best of both worlds, and it's everyone's to do with what they like (included a detailed components guide).

Correct. Which is also a factor as to why the included apps were, well, included - lack of frequent updates means the ROM doesn't become obsolete quickly due to app updates. Same goes for gapps - it comes with some, not with others. I may just get rid of the extra apps as they are now, too, and just add them to the revised OP section on Recommended Apps.

... Actually, I will do that. Thank you :)

Also, the Extended Power Menu is still in v2.3.8, and screenshot still works correctly. However, this feature is not in Hydra.

Is there a way to restore the original music.apk? I don't see it in 2.3.8. Besides that, the ROM looks great so far!

It is in v2.3.8, and I am using it right now. The original which was themed by KTB (or Curtis, not sure who), is in the build.

I'd compare it to something like 'auto memory managing' apps and the superchargers. Some claim speed increases some hate them, or even prl updates. Its all personal preference.

Pretty much.

Also just a heads up that I will probably not be on for the next couple of days, as my girlfriend and I are headed to South Dakota again to visit with her family - I should be back by Sunday. I'm also looking into a few other backbone improvements, and I will be getting rid of the extra user apps, revising the OP for Recommended Apps and what's been removed (detailed list), to get some more things in order.

Enjoy your trip. :D

**And as note to people that like the extra apps. Just download the apps you like, as user apps from the play store. Then when you update the rom, the apps that are missing from the ROM remain as your user apps (as you are only wiping cache and davlik cache and flashing). Anything in the system app can be backed up and restored with TiBu after the flash.

As a note to those who were wondering about the JellyBean Clock, Moblynx has released it here for Gingerbread devices and up. It's a pay app ($0.99), so it won't be included.

Enjoy your trip. :D

Thanks :)

Sleipnir is supposed to be barebones, after all (but I'm always tempted to say hey! There's a really good app here!), so the only additional app I may include is JuiceDefender (it's a must for all devices, and I don't think it's being updated anymore/very infrequently) and Total Commander (stock had a File Browser, after all, but it was terrible, so it needs a better file browser and TC is touted as one of the best, even has a Windows twin). And of course Adobe Flash Player for web content compatibility. No more, no less.

The ROM will be so tiny!

EDIT: I've decided to go ahead and revamp the OP now, in advance of v2.3.9.

I've been using camera ICS and clock ICS from him for a bit, still free, woot.......I'm going to try the camera jb. Thx

Dear god no. Somewhere in that thread is a post from me (post #234), where I added in extra logging into the kernel for this very phone and proved that this entropy-seeding is BS. All it does is keep the cpu busy so it doesnt idle down to its lower settings as much, and is then less time for the thing to respond when you need it to. If you want the same effect, set your governor to "performance".
