Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

What are the chances of you changing the look of the battery/signal bar thing? -___-

It's themed for ICS and JB, and the battery icon is definitely one thing that should have been present in stock - instead of a fuzzy and hard-to-tell-where-the-battery-level-is-actually-at-at-a-glance (when the battery icon makes it look like the battery is at 50%, but it's really at about 20%, that's a problem), it gives you a percentage. At this point, I don't really plan on changing it (though when Hydra is out, feel free to make your own modifications, it's pretty easy :) ) simply because it's much more useful in its current state. However, I am open to suggestions, what did you have in mind?

The k-9 email app doesnt work too well with hotmail accounts..Would the stock email app work with this rom?

Also, I noticed that this question went unanswered. Stock email app should work just fine, and that's why K-9 was removed in 2.3.7 and replaced with stock, among other reasons.

Hi,
Just flashed 2.3.7(the second build) and I see no issues. Smartassv2 gov. + I/O set to noop. I may not have noticed in earlier builds, but I am now able to set the bottom limit of the cpu @ 122.88(not that I intend to use this setting), but I don't recall being able to go below 245.76.
I do have a question though...has the bar with the time and battery icon changed any? It looks a bit different, although I may simply be imagining things.
Great work, Artine! :D

It has indeed, it is now officially back to how it was supposed to be. To be honest, the status bar modification present in 2.3.7 vs earlier builds post-Aegir, was not intentional. The altered status bar from pre-Sleipnir was supposed to stay that way. For whatever reason, entirely of its own volition, it blanked to a completely black status bar (though the altered file was still present). In 2.3.7, it's back to how it was supposed to be - and I changed nothing to make that happen. But it's a good thing :)

Well keep in mind my girlfriends phone is a Optimus Slider so just making sure you know she's not on Sleipnir. xD But I'll give it a try when she's here this weekend. And sneaky_1 she doesn't need gapps, but thank you for that anyways I'm gonna need it for future stuff. :]

NP, I just posted the gapps because it includes the Play Store, but along with the other google apps that can be flashed with cwm. But they can be removed.

Firstly, I think using the CM10 boot animation is very tacky. This isn't CM10.

Secondly, is there any way to make the buttons on pop up notices actually appear to be buttons? Right now it is a gray button on grey background with no outline. There are a few apps that I can't tell where the button actually is.

If Sprint users were having trouble downloading apps, I've rehosted the build, you should be fine.

That's been lower on the priority list before, but is now up at the top - yes, the buttons can be changed. It's a direct fusion now between ICSE and Tagged, and I was planning on revising it again. Also, the CM10 boot animation point is valid - it was added simply because it was the best looking bootanimation I'd seen after crawling through several threads on XDA and other boards with over a hundred bootanimations each. I've been considering just using the legacy Android bootanimation instead.

I've never used this launcher before. Is there a way to get the search widget to work correctly? I can install the google one but it's not as nice looking :/

I vote to keep the boot screen as well . By the way Artine , this is the best one yet Sleipnir_v237V . Good job . No bugs as of now . Kudos .

PS . Your dedication is appreciated . You worked on this New Years Eve and came through . Wish you and yours a good one .

Had a couple mad random restarts on an earlier build from last month, will update. Only twice though, just weird. Updating wont erase anything right?

Is it possible to get the new clock from 4.2 on here? One that has the Alarm Clock, Clock, and Stop Watch all in one thing? Miss that from iOS.

Love this ROM, thanks for all the hard work. I have one issue with the newest version I've done an update twice now and the alternating color boxes for text messages are no longer there. Before one was yellow and one was blue. Now it's all black.

Also about the bootanimation - until we actually have CM (if), I'm considering keeping it, and if not then I will remove it and have it run the legacy bootanimation instead. Still undecided about it, but until CM is out I don't see it as much of a problem - but I do see the inconsistency. If only more bootanimations were of this quality - there aren't many.

The Mms.apk was changed, and I've considered changing it back.

Thanks to all the developers that contributed to this rom. I never ran into a single issue since I started using the initial builds in early December. Very stable, very fast, simply the best rom I've ever used. You made the elite so responsive and fast that I didn't think I would upgrade for yrs. Unfortunately, the data service from VM is just too unreliable for me to stay with them. 3000 quadrant score on this phone is incredible. I highly recommend this rom to anyone considering it. Keep up the good work!

I couldnt have said it better myself. :)

I love the easy update! Thats nice.
Search button is still a no go. However long pressing takes me to search contacts.
Other than that.....and the extra user apps.... Its perfect.
You are keeping this phone alive, Artine. Thank you for all your work!

Which extra apps? Also, I mentioned in an earlier post that the Search Button has been restored to normal functionality for both builds until I can get the remap working correctly :)

Hey Artine,

I know this is slightly off topic but your rom does not include google apps. What do I need to install to restore gmail's auto-checking ability? I restored the Gmail app but I'm guessing another app is needed for auto syncing because its not working.

Try downloading it from the Play Store instead of simply restoring it via Titanium Backup.

All of the ones that weren't in 2.1.4.
Yeah, that's what I mean, its not functioning as normal. At least not for me. I could try flashing it again.

EDIT: Reinstalled Googlequicksearchbox.apk and all is well. Thank you for restoring its function while the remapping is being worked on.

First things first: Hydra is now up. Has only about half of the customization, and all of the backbone, of Sleipnir, and it's bug-free (or should be) as-is, and more than likely the only update it will receive is bug fixes (if applicable). Check it out here, and I look forward to seeing a few more of you all on the other side.

Funny how build 2.3.7 is the same Android Version this phone uses. :D

Yep :)

No, updating won't erase your data. System, cache, and dalvik-cache, but not your data - yes.

If installing it through the Play Store doesn't work, let me know. Some gapps were included, others have been omitted because some don't use some of the gapps - Maps (in v2.3.8 in progress) and Gmail were both removed partially for this reason, and partially because of frequent updates. The goal of Sleipnir is to be how stock should have been, allowing everyone to have what they want and none of what they don't - only the essentials are included, and the few extra apps that are included are either not being updated anymore, or very infrequently at this point (and since most users install an app that performs the functionality the included ones do, it makes sense. There's a lot of factors taken into account when deciding).

All of the ones that weren't in 2.1.4.

So it's quicksearchbox? Good to know, I'll put it back in for v2.3.8. Thank you.

On a side note that I thought might be interesting for some people.....Ubuntu.

I like Ubuntu. I prefer Fedora, Tails, or Libert

I downloaded it from the store but it still doesn't work....

I'll see what I can do and try to get v2.3.7 up asap :)

Also, I've decided to go legacy instead of CM10 - Sleipnir is about being how stock truly should have been, having an out of place animation doesn't accomplish this (but I love the animation too :D ). That being said, I will add a link to Hydra for the bootanimation, but I'm keeping the PowerOn.mp3/boot sound :)
Well, it won't be completely Legacy... since I've just tested it and it works, I'm going to stick with the new thing I've done.
