Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

@Artine,
You've come a really long way man, great work! You may be delving into unofficial cyanogenmod ports before too long. ;) do you think after all this that maybe you have more of a better understanding as to how a CM ROM would be put together?

More or less. IIRC, much of the folder/subfolder organization system is completely different - files are in different locations/folders/directories, etc. It's vastly different from the ground up, but I've wanted to do a CM build for some time.

EDIT: Also, thanks to ktb's post just now, I'll have the default CPU governor set to smartassV2. This means that if you want to (many do) have smartassV2, it's there by default instead of having to change it. This doesn't necessarily create or relieve more headaches, just that the default governor will be smartassV2 instead of ondemand, but can still be changed normally.

I expect you'll have issues symlinking the dalvik-cache onto /cache. There is some stuff hidden away in our stock rom that does all sorts of stupid stuff on /cache in the background.

I/O set to noop by default too? :hello:

Yep.

And you would be correct; it didn't work. I originally considered symlinking it to /system, but since /system is only supposed to be Read and not Read/Write, I decided against it. If you'd like to take a look, I tried using this script (attached), and am looking into others ways to go about it.

Also, for those wondering, Hashtag did say that the search remap had to do with the boot.img as well. I'm awaiting a reply from him to know which kernel his modifications were made to, before I implement it. Everything else, aside from the symlinking, appears to work just fine.

You may have some luck by creating a directory on /cache that is not named "/cache/dalvik-cache" and then mount-binding it to "/data/dalvik-cache".

Still nothing. Originally the permissions were 555, and trying to make a directory and symlink/bind /cache/dalvik-cache with /data/dalvik-cache. Following your suggestion about using a different name for the /cache folder, I went with /cache/dc. Still nothing. So, this time I've changed the permissions to 777, kept the folder name change, and have it in init.d. So far df in the terminal has come up with no difference to the cache used space size, so fingers crossed.

EDIT: No dice on 777, trying 555 next.
EDIT: No dice on 555 either. Ideas?

Camera is not gone, Calculator is not gone, etc., but Wallet is, Smart Device Manager is, etc.

Quick question: Why get rid of Wallet? I personally like using it, at least when I can find a place that accepts it. It's not a big deal to re-install it after updating, just curious as to your reasoning.

for simplicity and the leanest ROM possible.
he's not saying it won't work, just take the extra step and download & install it from the play store.
while I like the app too, I and I'm guessing the majority of the forum don't use Google Wallet enough to be a real issue.
if its a deal-breaker for you, just install it & backup in Titanium Backup so you can always start where you left off when installing the newest version of Sleipnir.

good luck & happy walleting...

I thought the wallet would be nice to have.
I used the free amount I got when the phone was activated.
Thought about putting $25.00 on it so I always had some cash. Then Google came out and said that if you did not use the wallet once a month a $2.00 service fee would be applied or something like that.
Lost interest in wallet really fast.....

The google wallet never worked right for me. Then when google said we could fill out a form and get our free money sent to us on a prepaid card, I filled out that form. They never sent my card. I called the 1800 number and talked to them on the phone, they typed some crap in their computer, and weeks later, I still never got my prepaid card. Every last bit about my experience with wallet has told me that google doesn't take care when dealing with financial transactions unless the money is coming towards them.

v2.3.7 will be up within the hour for download at the usual sources, and a Sprint version as well. I was able to get some of the system apps converted to user apps by installing their play store versions, so, for example, Maps and the Play Store have been taken out of /system/app and placed in /data/app as their newest versions, and they work just fine (it was also kind of pointless to have Maps and the Play Store in /system/app anyway and be odexed, since as soon as they update their updated versions are placed in /data/app anyways).

The only features mentioned before that v2.3.7 will not have is the Search Button remap (waiting to hear back from Hashtag), and the dalvik-cache symlink (being worked on). Those should hopefully be in v2.3.8 unless there are bugs to be fixed.

EDIT: v2.3.7 is up now. Enjoy!

EDIT: Download Links temporarily down while I fix the build.props for both builds. If you grabbed a build within the first hour, you'll have noticed the carrier name was different (on Virgin Mobile). Renatus is the name I choose for the Carrier portion of the build.prop when I'm testing - so I know which is a test build and which isn't. It's Latin for Reborn. Links will be back up shortly. Links are back up now, enjoy, and happy holidays!

EDIT: Also, now that the new Tagged build is out, I can start work on Hydra. Expect to see it within a week from now.

Houston we have a problem ! Google play store is crashing . Upon reboot and upon accessing the app . Installed Rom twice and did a full wipe twice . Going back to previous version .

Google Play is what we call a big pile of shiz. I effing hate that app, I have problems with it all the time on my girlfriends Slider so good luck fixing it. :/ Weird how I never have problems with the one on my Elite tho. Artine, would I be able to bluetooth/email over the Google Play from my phone to my gf's Slider and replace hers with mine? Would that possibly fix things?

Thanks for the update everyone. Give me a sec to whip up another build, looks like swapping the play store didn't work, I apologize. New build will be up within the hour.

In theory, I would say yes. Also, has she tried going to Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Play Store, and uninstalling the updates for it, and letting it re-update itself?

EDIT: Links are back up. The Play Store should work fine now. Enjoy :)
