Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

I've been messing around with trying to get the search button do something other than search. I found out that if you change key 217 in /system/usr/keylayout/touch_mcs8000.kl from "SEARCH" to "ENDCALL" then the search button will function as the power button. So you can turn off your screen by pressing the search button. It also has the long press function of the power button, so you can pull up the power off menu that Artine put in by long pressing the search button.

ENDCALL is supposed to end phone calls, and POWER is supposed to use the power button functions. POWER doesn't seem to do anything. Getting the search button to use the camera might require changing it to something funky.

Unfortunately, it does. The problem with how Hashtag and I want it to work is that the kernel itself has to be modified to remap it to call up an app, as opposed to a simple function like ENDCALL. We tried simply changing that to CAMERA, to no avail. It requires both a script and kernel modification, and I'm awaiting reply as to which kernel he used.

Well, there is an option in your accessibility settings that allows you to set power button as End Call while in a call instead of turn off screen.
 
Has anybody been able to fix the MMS issue with this phone? Still can't DL MMS from iPhone group chats :(

It wouldn't be fair to hold onto a release that corrects issues while working on other components as well, so here goes - v2.3.8. Not much has changed, other than the /system/app configuration should be finished, bootanimation changed, and one or two other small things I can't recall at the moment. Oh, and the search button functions as normal, even more so than before (? Because I've added back in QuickSearchBox). I'm working on revamping the UI one more (hopefully last) time, and still looking into the dalvik-cache symlink (Mr. Pune, I will probably need your help on this as well). When I hear back from #, I will get the search button remap up and going but for now it functions as normal. Maps and Gmail are also both gone due to the many factors aforementioned (frequent updates, some have replacements or don't use them at all, etc.). Stock apps that had been replaced by others (as in the stock app version, like Dolphin Mini vs Stock Browser, was removed entirely) are back, and MMS should function correctly again.

Options, Freedom, and how Stock should be.

Oh, and the bootanimation changed.

I couldn't sleip, so here I am at ~3:30am, and decide to check the board, and my jaw literally dropped when I saw that. I guess it's just weird to see the combined work of others and myself, under one roof, posted elsewhere. Super cool, thank you!

I appreciate it, thank you. It was an awesome surprise this early in the morning. And on that note, I've just added the links to v2.3.8. :) Changelog updated as well. If you had a chance to boot Hydra v1.0.3, you know what's coming in the way of a bootanimation. If not, well, I'll keep it a surprise then.
And on that note, it's 4:50am, I'm headed back to... to... zzzZZZzzz...

If you have your phone on silent, it won't play. It could also be due to the placeholder file in there as well, which was initially added to make it silent.
 
Just updated. What was the MMS issue that was fixed on this? Thought it was the one with iPhone group chats but I still can't get it to work :(

Ah well. Love the new boot animation and search button. Thanks again for all this!

No, that's an age-old problem as I stated before. The only known fix is a manual fix, through another app - I gave you the link in an earlier post, but here ( http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-elite/591638-cant-open-group-texts-iphone-users.html ) it is once more :)

More or less, it's a problem on Apple's end (big surprise), rather than having to do with the phone or Android.
 
I agree . The new boot screen puts the personalized finishing touch on the rom . I don't have the boot sound anymore but the new boot screen is very nice . Two thumbs up . Congrats on the review . Should be rewritten due to the fact that you fixed some of the cons .

He's crossed off a couple of the cons in the review now that v2.3.8 is up. The OP section on recommended apps is going to be revised soon as well.
 
Emergency! I went to format the System, Cache, and Dalvik Cache, after doing so i go to select from the main menu to flash from zip, and it won't let me select anything now. Just shows the background logo kinda come up then goes back to main menu!

unplugged the battery and the phone bootloops, great. What do I do from here now..
