Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

This rom's really nice. Smooth, nice ui, and the classic gingerbread tv tube animation. Only compliant is the loud boot up sound, it wakes people up. But then again I probably should stop flashing roms at 1 in the morning.

Yea, one time I had downloaded and put the ROM on my phone before school but was gonna wait until later to flash it. So in the middle of a class I decided to do that and forgot about the sound. It was kinda embarrassing but the teacher didn't care.

If i had the regular version of this rom installed on my Sprint OE should I do a full wipe of everything when switching to the actual Sprint version?

No. Merely follow the same procedure as if you were updating the ROM, and you'll be fine. Though many recommend it, formatting /data is not necessary.

That's why the sound was removed, actually, in later builds.

How do I reinsert stock music / widget - Winamp starts in the background after killing and force-closing < dislike greatly

You can download and install the stock music app via the Play Store. I would also recommend updating to 2.1.4 if you haven't yet :)

Here's the stock gingerbread music player for the Optimus Elite with the Odex

Tell me if the link doesn't work. I had to upload to dropbox cause google drive won't let me share from mobile. Lame.

Btw if you don't already know, just drop the files in /system/app. Nbd

I don't really use the search button to search, but I do use it for other things by long pressing. Long pressing the search button isn't doing anything for me with this Rom. I tried downloading Google search and remapping the button but I couldn't get it to work. I'd rather have the search button search than do nothing. That's my only complaint. Great Rom!

I happen to agree with the search button functionality.

Love the ROM, just one little (personal) issue... Any way you could be talked into not including the apps you do? I know some people use the, but every time I update, I have to remove them because I don't, and K-9 is really annoying to remove, since it doesn't show up in the app list or in Root Uninstaller. Maybe have links to their Google Play pages, so that people can access them easily if they want to install them?

I really love the work you've put into this, and I've installed it on three OEs so far (mine, my girlfriend's, and our roomate). Keep up the good work!

I've brought that up before, I had that idea a while ago and was planning on going ahead with it in the near future. As opposed to Dolphin or Titanium Backup, what do you use instead (since I keep those updated and both have been touted numerous times to be the best at what they do)? Also, I really do recommend JuiceDefender because, especially with the settings I have listed, it will add several hours to your battery life without interfering with anything. Also, from personal experience, my opinion is that Root Uninstaller, after having used it and Titanium Backup both, is rather lacking in quality by comparison (and I trust Titanium Backup more). Also, Titanium Backup does uninstalls on par if not better, from what I have experienced. But that's just my opinion. As far as K-9 is concerned, it's generally considered to be the better alternative to the stock Email app, and this ROM is all about improvements - but I can always throw that into a flashable .zip as well. Also, I just checked three different ways and K-9 shows up just fine (App Drawer, browsing to /system/app, and Titanium Backup), so I don't know how it isn't showing up for you. However, I do all have links to the Google Play pages already up in the main post.

In any case, I do plan on having the apps be a flashable .zip instead. And I really appreciate the feedback, thank you! :)

tethering is not working for me. I tried wifi tethering and foxfi, still doesn't work. It worked with stock rom before.

Use the actual app that is called "Wifi Tether for Root Users", you should be able to tether just fine through it.

I personally don't like the idea of de-bloating roms at all because it's easier for a user to uninstall an app they don't want than it is for them to get an app that has been removed. For instance, I like to use the voice dialer when I'm driving. Getting the voice dialer on my phone now involves either restoring a nandroid and copying the apk or finding a replacement in the market. I decided to use a different app from the market, and it took me a little while to figure out that it won't work without also downloading the voice search app, and it also has to be in system.

Just my .02. I love the Rom though. It performs really nicely and I appreciate all the work you guys have put in to it.

My bad. I uninstall and reinstall and it works. Another question, does the sound meter in smart tools work for anyone?

Alright everyone, there's a poll up now. Sleipnir is ideally supposed to be a new stock ROM, barebones, how the stock ROM should have been (in my opinion). As such, I don't feel it is necessary to include the extra user apps, especially when all of you can download what you want to (and I realize many of you would want what's included anyway). In this way, it gives you more freedom, and less hassle to uninstall something you don't want to have in the first place. As such, I'll be tinkering around and come up with a new build again in a few days - the result being that some of the /system apps will be user apps instead, making for easier uninstallation if so desired, and that the already-included user apps will no longer be present (unless there's a clear lead in voting towards keeping them). In this way, I hope to keep things more simple, more hassle free, and allowing for an even better experience.

So, I leave it up to all of you - should I keep the already-included user apps (which, in a way, is actually bloat - and speaking of which, @Dark One and others, I will be including all gapps again except Wallet, Books, etc. now that there is less in the way of major /system modifications and fine tuning, priorities have changed), or get rid of them so all of you can decide what you want and get them from the play store as you normally would?

I did what I should have done in the first place and just extracted all of the system apps that I want from a nandroid, so it will be easy to reinstall stuff after updates.

I'd rather prevent headaches than create more :) That being said, the next build will have everything updated again, and the installer will now also wipe the dalvik cache for you as well. More stuff in progress, including another project which should hopefully encourage some more people to become devs, to at least try their hand at things :)

I'm loving this ROM and your frequent updates that fine tune things for us...Great work on your part....just find us a Dev that will give us an ICS ROM on our Elite phones, that would be the best, I was running it on my OptV and loved it!

Personally, I like the apps that you have chosen to include in the rom, since I normally use these very same apps. The issues that I have experienced with this rom are due to the K-9 as a replacement to the stock email app, as well as the exclusion of swype. I experienced some F/C issues with the K-9 app and the only way I could get rid of it was to search for a copy of the original email app, include it in the rom and then reflash. For me, this wasn't such a big deal, I am on Christmas holiday from school and I have learned a lot about how these roms are built in the process. Although, I have to make the same modification to each updated version of the rom before I can flash it.

As far the the gapps that have been excluded, I would like to have the option to add back some of them, so that I might become more familiar with them. I just switched to the OE from the Optimus V. I had been using the V with a custom rom for over a year, and it was my first Android phone. When I got my OE, I came strait to the forum to find a rom to flash. I used the phone stock for about 2 days, in that time I didn't really explore the included gapps. I don't really know what some of them do.

I think it would be nice if you offered a flashable zip with all gapps in it so people can chose some or all of them to flash with the rom.

For me, what makes this rom great is all of the work that has gone into making it run smoothly and look great. I can't believe that it is overclockable to 1.6 GHz! Thanks for all of your hard work.

I hope there will be a Sprint version included. ;)

Of course :) I've actually got the compatibility down to just the build.prop switch now :)

Also, the project won't come out until after Sleipnir is updated with Tagged 1.2 as its base, and the new project will use the name that I was originally going to use for
