Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

yeah, the boot stuff is a minor issue, not trying to bitch too much about it. just saying.

about to try checking out juice defender now. never used it. heard good and bad things about it, so i guess ill see for myself.

whats all this junk in the JD log about AOSP helper and wanting to attempt a dengerous force install? is that safe to ignore? sounds scary.

It also says it's not possible so it doesn't do anything. JuiceDefender personally has afforded me numerous extra hours even on stock. I've heard the negative feedback as well, but it seems to be unfounded from what I know and have experienced.

Flashed 2.1.2 with swype added back in and everything is working great. I chose Set CPU for cpu control and everything seems to be working fine. Thanks for you hard work! :smokingsomb:

Just wanna say thanks for doing all this. This was my 1st time rooting and installing a ROM and everything was a breeze. Instructions are very easy to follow.

Thanks again!

cant believe you added Gangnam style and Manamana to the ringtones lol. i added manamana as a dedicated ringtone for a friend of mine who loves that song. its gonna be hilarious when he calls.

hey Artine, had a question about a few things in your features list i was hoping you could clear up for me.

what does the complete audio overhaul entail?

you listed silent camera, but it looks like its just the stock one thats installed, and its not silent (by default anyways). maybe this is left over from an earlier build?

can you go into some detail about the advanced power menu? trying to figure out whats different.

is Adaway still included? im not seeing it installed as an app, and havent noticed it running at all.

thanks!

For Gangnam Style they had a poor loop of it on Zedge (as in it was supposed to be a loop, but wasn't complete), so I actually pulled that ringtone audio file onto my computer, edited it into a perfect loop, then put it in as an included ringtone. Little secret never revealed XD

The Power Menu is extended from stock. Twice the features actually; Reboot, Recovery, and Screenshot were all added to the Power Menu.

Complete Audio Overhaul - Found in /system/media, most of the stock Alarms, Notifications, and Ringtones were stripped from the ROM, to be replaced by higher quality A/N/R from ROM dumps from (but not limited to) CyanogenMod, the Galaxy SIII, the LG Intuition, and the Nexus 7. All of the UI sounds, located in /system/sounds/ui, were replaced by those from the Nexus 7 as well.

Yes, it is the stock one. The difference being that sound should not be playing whenever you take a picture, because the respective audio files that caused such noise were located in /system/sound/ui but I had removed them. For some, this does disable the sound. For others, not the case - and Hashtag's edited .apk of the stock camera to make sure the camera is truly silent, no longer seems to work. The effect does still stay in some cases however, and I will contact Hashtag soon about whipping up another version (I'm sure he could do it quickly) based on what works now.

AdAway hasn't been included, but the effect from AdAway does. AdAway and other ad blockers for Android merely changes the hosts file found in /system/etc, and doesn't need to be running in the background once it has altered that file. I try to stay on top of their updates so that each time I upload a build of Sleipnir, it comes with an updated hosts file (as listed in the features list). In this way, people still don't have ads (or, at least, have fewer ads), but don't have an extra app they might not need/use. However, if they would like to have AdAway included as well, I see no problem with this and would be happy to include it in future updates :)

Hey Artine (and everybody else as well), Been on Sleipnir since about 2.05 or so and am enjoying it a lot! My girlfriend had my old OV and then I caught the Thanksgiving sale and bought her a white OE for $49.95 w/ free shipping @ Bestbuy.....what a deal!! I'll tell ya, after I set up hers with this rom, she is loving that phone!! For anybody having dropped call issues, if you haven't checked, make sure proximity sensor is enabled. If not, your cheek will hang up on you!! Artine, FYI, you didn't update the post title to v2.1.2 and if browsing for an update it might be missed. Again, thanks for the great rom and all your contributions!! Happy Holidays

Just the INT2EXT+ script. It didn't change anything and it didn't negatively effect the ROM, in any way I can tell. I reflashed 2.1.2 after the int2ext script didn't work.

Hmm, I'll have to try the others and figure out how they're supposed to work. Maybe we can get it to work, who knows :) But that's the one that I was going to try :P

I've just overhauled the OP, which should make things easier to look at. Feel free to take a look, and give me some feedback - I'm heavily leaning towards that type of organization for the CWM FAQ-Guide as well. And is anyone using Sleipnir on their Sprint OE?

Also, as promised, I've made the audio packs flashable .zips and they are ready for download via DevHost (in place of SendSpace) now. Updated links in the OP.

And before I forget, @mad4some that post made my day. Thank you :)

Enjoy!

Flashed 2.1.2.
Great work.

The reason I like to use widget locker is not only for security reasons. I've been fortunate and never left the phone anywhere or ever had one taken. I do have seekdroid on it just in case, and prefer people not being able to access anything on the phone by it skipping the unlock PIN, which it occasionally does. I made a video of it working correctly, and when it decides to bypass the PIN, I'll make another one and ask the developer if he knows what might be happening.
I like to be able to take a quick look at the phone without unlocking it to see the date / time and weather.
I also like the idea, since I'm a big outdoors person and many trips are by myself, people able to see on the phone ICE which will allow them to make calls to the numbers I have selected. Such as wife, parents and doctor in case something happens on my outings.
If it was left behind and an honest person found it my name and number on it so that they could contact me if they where kind enough to do so.
All features which are not able to do using the phone unlocker. If someone would want to let you know they found the phone, there is no way for them to access any information on it....

Widget Locker, of the lockers (though I don't use any currently) available, was one of my top favorites for those reasons.

Also, v2.1.3 is up. The biggest change was that giantpune released an update to his VM kernel (rather silently, I might add). Also, since I didn't get any definite feedback that anyone on Sprint is using this ROM, I've decided to go ahead and release a test build for Sprint users.

The theory is that since most custom ROMs were based on Aeneas, and not Stock Sprint or Stock Virgin Mobile, and Aeneas works on both, and all changes made to it were/are compatible with Aeneas (framework-res, etc.), that all I would need to do is change out the kernel and Sprint users should be good to go. One other thing of note is that I took out the Sprint Voicemail app. Let me know if this impacts anything - I'm fairly certain it's just a bloat app, and you should be able to access your voicemail normally. Unfortunately, I don't know since I'm not on Sprint. Feedback is appreciated, and as always please make a Nandroid backup before doing anything - this is a test build, after all. But, if successful, then Sleipnir will no longer be VM exclusive.

EDIT: Download links are down temporarily while I add in the hosts file that I had updated (but forgotten to add back in).

EDIT: Links are back up and active once again :)

Unless of course they are smart enough to just Factory Reset from recovery or something... Wont be hard if it's rooted.

The test build is the best news for Sprint based users. I've been holding back with a restored stock rom waiting patiently.

The Noob Tool worked like a charm and I installed CWM Recovery again. Going to install the test and see if pigs fly or not. :)

gotta say: I transitioned to anonymous' project mayhem ROM for awhile because I kept having resetting & screenshot problems. and while it was uncommonly good, it just wasn't sleipnir. since these issues have been dealt with and are fully functional, I seriously doubt I will be changing my ROM, other than out of curiosity and playtesting.

phenomenal work, artine! thanx.

I like it there because it lets me know its running.

True enough :)

Speaking of that project, I actually helped him out with it a bit after that build was posted. He hasn't been on to post it, but I'm sure when he gets around to it Project Mayhem will get updated. Though that does remind me; I have two other projects in the works right now that will get taken care of once the overhaul to the CWM FAQ-Guide is finished (hopefully tonight). One of which is homage to Aeneas, and the other project is potentially so large I may just can it xD

Just recently switched to this from the Tagged Rom, and before that was Harmonia. I will have to say I am keeping this ROM for awhile! Just wanted to say TY.

There is only one slight thing I wish could be fixed. When your in your contacts, usually I can hit the "Search Button" to search for contacts right away. But now you have to hit the "Menu Botton" then click search. Not a big deal at all tho.

I apologize for that. The reason this is the case is because the search button is in the process of being remapped to a camera button key, since it was found that a majority (although not everyone) did not use/need the search button, though it is understandable for a contacts search. However, as you did mention, you can go to the menu and search via that method.

Is there any way I can change the name of the carrier on the lock screen and drop down menu?

Yes. If you edit the build.prop line:

ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Virgin Mobile

You can change the "Virgin Mobile" characters to say whatever you want, and it'll show up on the drop down menu and the lock screen to whatever you changed it to. If you're on the Sprint test build, this has been corrected in an upcoming build.
