Root [ROM] Sleipnir v2.4.0.5 - 10/24/13 - VM & SPRINT

OK, after looking at Leslie Ann's post about BYOR, I can see that swype.apk is not included in this rom. Could I just add swype.apk to the Sleipnir_v212/system/app folder?

No, it's not included. Yes, you can manually add it to the /system/app folder by copying and pasting it in (or dragging it in in Windows prior to flashing the ROM, making sure that WinRAR's default compression is set to Normal). If you decide to add it in once the ROM is flashed, simply copy and paste it in /system/app after remounting the directory to R/W. Then reboot the phone, and it will install itself automatically. Alternatively, you can download it from the Play Store too.

well you convinced me to try your ROM so i got it and just installed it. very slick so far. as long as i find it as stable as Harmonia ill probably stick with it.

didnt care for the boot screen/music, but everything else is very nice so far. love the battery notification, couldnt even read the one that was included with Tagged.

so, there is no CPU tuner included right? so the cpu is just at its default for now?

ill probably make some changes to different apps, take a few away and add a few. personalize it a bit. ill probably be back with some more questions and impressions after i get a chance to play with it some more.

thanks.

edit: did the play store just make some changes or something? when i went to redownload some of my apps it is only showing installed and purchased apps, not anything free that ive installed recently.

edit2: i was getting an error code on the Play store, so i looked it up and i read that wipinch the google services and play store cache and then wiping the dalvik once again should help.

that did the trick.

quite liking this ROM so far! will post back tonight after ive messed around some more with it.

Correct, no CPU Tuner is included as some people may prefer something other than what I do. The few apps that are included are because they are touted by XDA and the majority of Android users it seems use them, so that's why those are there. By all accounts, it should be as stable or more stable than Harmonia. Tagged as well (which is the base for this, and the base for Tagged is Aeneas/Harmonia). Additionally, Harmonia had support for scripting but the scripts were not running. This was even the case with Tagged, but we managed to rectify this in Sleipnir.

As for the Play Store, including a current-up-to-date version of it causes errors post-odexing. As in it doesn't odex the .apk correctly. However, for the older version included in Aeneas, it odexes just fine. The Play Store will need to update.

Also, it's recommended that on an update or new install of any of the ROMs we have available, one should wipe dalvik cache at least once, preferably twice :) That usually solves most of the errors.

And you should be personalizing it! It strives to be a new bare ROM :)

As for the boot sound, it's included simply because some people may enjoy it - I ususally have my OE on silent and as such it doesn't play on reboot. As for the boot animation, that seems to be the best looking bootanimation available for Android, or one of the top ones - certainly the best one after crawling through numerous XDA threads full of over 100 bootanimations each, and not finding a worthy candidate :P But to each their own :) Anything is better than the Virgin Mobile bootanimation and sound, no? XD

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879806 would something like this work on Sleipnir since scripting is working?

I'll look into it, and get back to you on that!

I'm flashing 2.1.2 now and I'm going to try that INT2EXT script. Will let you know the results.

I'm not sure if flashing it through CWM would work though. giantpune said that with the way CWM for us is set up, there is no sd-ext that can be seen. SD Card is the external, and Internal SD Card is just that, but there's no sd-ext (which it why it skips over this in backups). I would say that it'd be better to install it manually.

well, poop.

If you're going to test it, make a Nandroid backup first. If flashing it through CWM doesn't work, I'll see about doing it manually :)

making a nandroid now. I would kill for 16GB internal space. It would make this phone the best android out there, with your ROM and all that internal storage... mmmmm. :smokingsomb:

I have a 16GB external SD card :D

And the phone already has 2GB internal, with more available with the cleanup Hashtag and I have done :)

But a total of 18GB+ would be awesome :D

Did nothing at all. I too, have a 16GB external sd. And I would love to be able to play Jet Set Radio and TDKR and stuff, those 1.8+GB needing games, without worrying about it.

Changing my scheduler to noop seems to have eliminated the lock screen lag that I was having with third party lockers after waking from deep sleep.

Duly noted. On the subject of lock screen/awake lag, that's why I do not recommend that the minimum CPU frequency be set to anything under 245. Anything below that causes phone problems, lock screen problems, and more, lol.

Which scripts did you try?

Why get a new phone.... bright, clean and shinny. LOL
Went and looked at the HTC today and read some more on the forums about it.... Sticking with the OE.
Not ready to give up the grandfather plan yet... that would be $120 more a year. That's almost how much I need next year for the new R/C airplane I want to get in the spring. LOL

Downloaded the new build, will be flashing it real soon.

I have not tried this on the OE but use it on my tablet and it works great; GL to SD. I've got a bunch of big games and have lots of room left since I can move them to the SD card. IIRC I had to manually move the folders to the SD card cause the option to move them in the program did not work correctly for me. Don't let the GL fool you. I moved other company games and they worked as well.

I should post this in the general OE thread; does anyone use Widget Locker?
It gets flaky at times. Such as I have a pin password. When I swipe WL to unlock the phone, sometimes it just unlocks without going to the password. Sometimes I have to restart the phone several times till it works correctly. Only to bypass the password after a few times to days....

I use Magic Locker which is similar. I used to use the pattern password with Magic Locker until I realized that you can bypass it by rebooting the phone. If you want security, I think the best way to go is to just use the stock locker.

Is there anyway to enable media functions from the lock screen such as Play/Pause/Next? I think I used to be able to do this, I forget how though..

After trying a few different lockers myself (and having issues with Holo Locker), I agree completely. Stock is the best way to go as far as security is concerned.

Some music apps do allow this - I know Winamp can through a setting.

i did wipe the dalvik cache twice before flashing as per your instructions in the OP. the store never asked me to update and i could browse it fine, just couldnt see any of the free apps i had installed previously, and got an errod code when trying to download any app (492 i think). but wiping cache and dalvik again did the trick.

i like the boot animation that came with tagged, nice simple android logo thingie. the thing that was weird with this one was that it was for cyogen, but this isnt a cyogen rom, also the song was annoying. the actual animation is nice, but it seemed out of place on your rom. i muted the song though, so all good!

any recommendations on a cpu tuner? im going to look up a few now.

so far, very stable. not one issue after i got the store up and running. im enjoying it, thanks!

Daigoro did you restore any apps and/or app data with Titanium Backup? I'm using Antutu CPU Master.

I like how this thread has basically become the chat thread for the Elite, like how the backside thread was for the OV :D

nope. didnt bother backing up any apps. havent even used Titanium backup yet. this is my first time even having the app. dont know how to use it yet.

ill check out Antutu thx.

The Play Store isn't supposed to prompt you for an update, it does it by itself after enabling a data connection of some sort, running it, then backing out of it and waiting five minutes. The only version would have been causing problems - but it's the one that's safe to have odexed without issue. And yeah, this isn't CM, and the OE might never get a fully working CM either. But the animation is cool (and one of the best out there), so I included it anyway.

Lovely XD
