Root Porting ClockWorkMod to the Kyocera Rise

Smart is on a Canadian carrier, so he might have a slightly different bootloader

That's right folks I'm on the c5156 and I can also tell you that our recoveries are not quite the same as when i flash a stock c5155 recovery i get a /data mount error... I'm wondering if it's not due to it being from the ics 4.0.3 version... I was an eager beaver and now i no longer have the stock recovery from my c5156... would anyone with a c5156(PMI) or at least a c5155 with ics 4.0.4 please post a link to their recovery.img?

how to pull system/recovery/boot img in windows with adb? I know it was posted as I read it quickly couple of days ago but i can't find it now...

thats a bummer i have to ask... do you already have the android bootloader interface driver installed?

I didn't. From what I can tell it's a Google standard thing, and if fastboot were available it would identify on the USB bus as a Google device not Kyocera, anyone know if that is accurate?

Smart, I have to have the sdk installed for all my kernel, recovery, and rom work.

i know but i had to ask ... maybe you where on another computer... you know how it is sometimes... no disrespect bud.. you know i love your work... :)

and the link is not android sdk... its really just fastboot adb and the android bootloader interface driver... and a recovery image that is for another device(zte n760) do not flash it on your kyocera...

Also drivers aren't relevant on linux which is what I use mainly, it either works or it doesn't. That Win2K is a Virtualbox machine. In linux I don't see any "Google" devices on the USB bus which is why I wanted to know if the info I found was accurate, if it is then there's no direct way to get there from here.

i have linux too but i use it for everything else other than fastboot and adb... i run a mint/win7... linux is my fave but i love playing video games so....

EDIT: I just tried it again and it didn't work this time... difference being this time when i selected reboot booloader i was already plugged in to the pc... so on my phone it only works if i do it when i'm not plugged in and then the phone goes into fastboot and i plug it in when it hangs there and the led is red... letme kno if that works for you guys...

No joy for me, but keep 'em coming. Sooner or later we're bound to find something.

Rebooting via that app makes "No Frills CPU Control" not apply settings next boot. Not a problem really for most, it's not a stock app.

i downloaded notification toggle

For some reason it has Amazon in-app purchasing in it. I got the apk from the Play store, not Amazon.

It's too obfuscated for me to do anything with, to see how it's initiating a reboot. Only like 300 files in there. :(

what do you mean?

I went to install it and the permissions it wants include full phone state, browser history and bookmarks, internet, full sdcard access... hallmarks of a security risk. If it's not then the developer shouldn't have those permissions set.

first enter adb commands:
adb shell
su

then enter these commands:

#system
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 of=/sdcard/system.img

#recovery
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p15 of=/sdcard/recovery.img

#boot
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p8 of=/sdcard/boot.img

#sys_boot (bootloader?)
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1 of=/sdcard/sys_boot.img
I'm especially interested in the sys_boot image. If you can get into fastboot, I'd be willing to flash it onto my Rise.

Have you tried to issue any fastboot commands? Such as fastboot oem unlock?

EDIT:
Also, have you tried flashing a custom recovery?
Do you have adb access while in stock recovery?
