my s3 is getting hot still and i want to know if these temperatures are normal
i messed around a lot with the voltage control with the faux kernel on aokp but since then i've tried every rom and kernel combo, right now i'm blackbean with linaro and its still getting crazy hot.

i took it to a corporate store and they said they can't do anything about it unless see it doing anything crazy. I'm at wits end I'm thinking about bricking it so they'll replace but I'm not sure if they will so i don't want to risk it.

When does it get hot. Charging, playing games, all the time? If games, what games? Any other apps? Does it happen on bone stock?

Besides voltage, what clock speeds are you running at?

the most obvious solution was to go back to stock, and if u have u forgot to mention so. if u didnt do a back up recovery for stock then you must do the tar flash with odin, and if u dont want to go through all that i suggest flashing the metropolis 4.1.1 rom which is just stock jb. as you can see theres more than 1 solution try them.

It heats when i'm just browsing or using the phone in general never for longer than 10-15 minutes. I don't really use my phone for gaming. the only apps i download are wifi tether and chrome browser. I don't usually overclock i keep my cpu at 1.5 the voltage was the only thing i changed.

And I have gone back to stock and it was fine and then it wasn't

wifi-tether makes phone heat up that everyone knows, and its normal not gonna make your phone burst into flames. also try to pin point exact heating issue for example when i had my samsung indulge my phone started heating up by itself for no reason it turned out it was yahoo messenger was running in the back ground even as i signed out and closed app. my point in all this check your running apps, you said going back to stock was running fine then all of the sudden it started heating up? check what apps you have installed and is running. it all about process of elimination ;)

No when i first was on aokp even before i flashed the faux kernel I tethered my laptop and my roommates esteem and it never got hotter than 34c. even the the tether is off it hits over 39c

you not going have same results on every rom trust me on that.

I have tried every rom for this phone except metropolis, which i'm downloading no, and it's given the me the same temp while tethering before the overheating started, even on stock it was 34-35c. now every rom i try is given me same temp as well just hotter, between 37-41c. trust me i've tried everything i could possibly think off, i'v logged all of my results, i've triple checked everything.

In this case every rom and kernel yields the same result

Try installing system panel lite...start it up go to menu check where it say says system process ... scroll allvthe way to the bottom andbi can almost guarantee android.media.process is going full throttle..

This happens even after fresh rom install? I wonder if your voltage settings are following you. Maybe try going back into ktweaker and resetting to defaults. If its not a rogue appl, voltage settings, then it could be a bad battery.

This is why noobs shouldn't be messing around with the phones original settings. There is a reason why companies don't want people installing custom roms. Just brick the phone if you have warranty. Go to the store, play dumb and pray they give you a new one.

First off i wouldn't consider myself a nood, i know what i'm doing,I'm not new to flashing by any mean and i wouldn't mess with settings if i didn't know what they were. I dont really want to brick it on the chance that they won't give me a new device.

airtioteclint yeah it happens with every rom. I tried to in stall metropolis but twrp is showing it as being on my internal memory. i've already tried to reset the voltage and all of test on my battery show that its good. I dont

To call someone a noob must mean you consider yourself an expert. I wonder why an expert couldn't come up with a better solution than bricking and returning for warranty. Lol

I kinda doubt it's the battery anyways, got to be the cpu voltage and cpu settings. Are you installing fresh roms or restoring backups. I would think a backup still contain the no good app thats causing the problem.

easy fellows im sure the heating issue is something small im sure we can find a way to help him figure it out. ill consider myself a noob since from time to time ill run into a prob and will need suggestions from fellow members as you guys. with that being said lets try not to mention the n word or any negative words that start with the letter n lol. I would like u to turn off 4g data for atleast 15-20 min then see how hot your phone is running although has nothing to do with your cpu im just trying to see something.

I honestly dont think all this neccesary ... the reason we are a community is to help each other whether being new or old at this... im on here a lot and honestly ur the first negative comment ive seen..not cool at all... better of not responding if ur not trying to help brotha...

All of the roms were completely clean installs. Right now though I'm on my backup of BlackBean as it is the only rom that stays below 40c

+1

I think its a background process ... everytime I had over heating was bcause of an app or media server...which for whatever reason would ramp the cpu to performance and basically go full throttle..for example jet audio has done it and noozy player too ... at least for me... is your battery draining pretty fast?...can u do me a favor take a screenshot of system panel cpu activity the one where it it has what both cores are doing....

Correct we are a great community and I consider you guys family please let's not assume things or make comments that are out of line to people that have issues

OK I turned off my 4g and it dropped down 35c with the tether off. Once I turned it back on it ramped right back up to 37c, with tethering still off.
