How do you know the video was real and not a fake? How do you know that NKT's, Apang's and Steronimo's (or whatever his name is) testimonials were true and not falsified.

I'm not flaming you, friend, I just want to express that going through life, in such a pessimistic way will hurt you and others. I'm not saying to be gullible, but if you want proof of everything first, you'll never do anything! :p, trust me, I have children.

The information conflicts are too much for a device that is supposed to release in less than three weeks. Something does not add up. I also worked in consumer marketing as a Dell supplier for years, so appreciate the spec sheet and manual process before publishing as PDF or hard copy. I wish PDF's manuals were as prolific when I was doing the stuff (five years ago)- much easier to correct than sending final proofs for printing thousands of copies and then catching the goofs ;) Perhaps that is why we were more careful.....

Ah well, all moot if the Incredible has the same display as the Nexus, I will buy the Droid instead. Multi touch works better on the Droid display and it also has a keyboard (for game emulators).

Then again, if the Incred has a better display.... coin toss perhaps.

Heck, even the "official" manual released seems suspect due to lack of Flash called out on the copyright sheet. Missed by HTC perhaps, but still poor miss by their product manager in marketing.

BTW, there is zero mention of more than 1gb of app storage for devices mentioned in the dev threads of the official Android forums- this would be big news. Android team would love it though, since they HATE the concept of apps2sd and are not exactly breaking their backs to make it happen. It is STILL not on their road map, so next year at best.

In summary, if the current data is legit, it is poor. Please consider that it is not our job to get these things right, but have already found things wrong- if the actual product exists (specs) as noted in this thread.

Added:

Another big issue will be if the device is clocked down to 768mhz- some blogs say yes and other say no. Considering what Verizon did to the Droid, who is to say it is not clocked down? Contrary to posts here, Snap can be set with a lower ceiling- just like the 3430 can.

#1 & #2: You apparently don't seem to understand what you are reading. It isn't 512mb of ram and 8 gb of rom. It's 512mb ram, 512mb (or 576mb if you include the rom built into the cpu) of rom, and 8gb of storage (ie memory drive).

#3: My understanding of the app storage issue is that Google doesn't want to allow storage on removable media and it basically blocking it in the OS. It wouldn't suprise me that much if "storage drive" code hasn't been in the Android OS for a while. It's not like they are the first ones to ever do it. And who's to say that the code for the storage drive isn't an addon from HTC. They certainly seem to know enough about Android to write the code.

The manual is never claimed to be a final version. In fact it was basically taken from Verizon without their knowledge from a location that very likely has "work in progress" data. We don't even know if the version we have is even the most current version of the manual.

In my opinion, you can do this but it's not ideal. First of all, its clearly not running at full speed. Secondly, usually on ports like this, all the features do not work (ex. GPS, bluetooth, etc.) And you are at the mercy of the XDA developers or whoever is making the port for fixing anything that doesn't work (some things may never be fixed). Lastly, you will probably never get Android upgrades (that video was clearly showing a version other than 2.1).

In my opinion, this is designed for if you want the Touch Pro 2 in its Windows Mobile version, and only want to fool around with Android. Otherwise, stick to a real Android phone so that you know everything will work as advertised and you will get updates. Goodluck! :)

I have confirmed this with about 4 or 5 various reps. But I am not technically due for my NE2 until the mi-end of July. I can still get a phone at the discounted 1 or 2 year price with an extra $20 fee. Better than full retail I bet.

Exactly.... I really don't understand what's so confusing about the memory and why people think it's not plausible they'll swear up and down it's fake just because it hasn't been done before on a Android phone, guess that means it never will right?

As far as the lack of info regarding the phone is that really that surprising? This is Verizon and they are known for not showing phones til the week of and since no one actually has the device other than some testers that haven't released any specs on it and the ones who have had old pre production phones from a couple of months ago, I do think the phone will be released this month and we'll find out more about starting sometime next week imo.

The phone is basically a Desire with 8GB of flash memory and 8MP camera what's so confusing about that? :p

Not posting about my perception as much as a general consensus here that the 8gb is for apps and it will release end of the month.

My own perception (not worth much, of course)

1. 8gb built in for media storage - not part of framework for app installs.
2. Same display as Nexus (hope I am wrong)
3. Capped at 768mhz (Verizon did it to the Droid, which has a more efficient chipset- why not the Snap that is more power hungry?)
4. Preorder end of month and will ship in early May
5. Device will be HUGE for Verizon sales, but Droid will still see steady sales due to having a keyboard.
6. (added) I think the manual is wrong and the card is accessed by removing the battery.

All conjecture, but based on the most logical mean of all of the current information I have read :) As far as the camera being 5 or 8mp, I could care less, since the speed of the image capture is more important to me (as should be for everyone).

Added:

Biggest stretch is the 768mhz thingy- hope you all are correct and not capped. It was dumb for Verizon capping the Droid, so ditto for the Incredible (if is capped).
 
OK East Coasters get to the store and get the latest on if anything is up. Not BS stories but find the hero that comes up with the first pic.

My PDF was 206 pages I think. Come on people, Use logic. There are errors in the U G but it isn't logical that someone made it up to fake us out. I am having a problem with the reasonableness of that.:confused:

This is mostly true, except for the part about updates. With these kinds of ports, you can almost always be sure you'll be running the latest version of Android almost as quickly as Google can put it out.

I'm running 2.1 with Sense on top on a TP2 as we speak.

That video he posted was pretty old, and even then it was running 2.0.1, so it's not like it was way behind. No further behind than the Droid was at that time.
 
Little concerned that the usb port and the volume rocker are on the same side- How will this work for docks ( specifically desktop cradles)? Say if you want to listen to music/watch videos while you have the phone in a dock you would not be able to easily access the volume control. :confused:

PDF is a bit elaborate to fake-especially if locked down for edits- a LOT more work to fake it then. I think the PDF is real, but riddled with mistakes.

Sometime between now and May we should find out ;)

That is the whole lame reason Android's argument about apps2sd is BS, since even if you install the app to your card, the actual data links for app launch are on the phone installed to (kind of like WM, but barely). If you install with apps2sd, the app only works if in the device originally installed.

Hackers can get around this, but they already are doing it without apps2sd with the current version- including 2.1. All Android team did was constrain growth of commercial apps in the market. They hurt the market far more than "pirates" ever would have.

I agree that the 8GB might not be to install the .exe for apps, but may be used to store app auxilliary files so that the app can run much smoother than if those files were on an external card.

I think the 8GB Internal will also improve OS responsiveness by storing your contacts, ringtones, wallpapers, etc. on since these things will be accessed more often.

Then you can use an SD card to store videos, music, and pictures which don't require as quick of access multiple times like other bits of data. It may take longer to store pictures and videos to the external card, and those that need that kind of performance may need to buy a higher class SD card, but I think the internal 8GB will help to improve the Android OS experience for those who are either too oblivious to sd card speed or too cheap to purchase a higher speed card.

I'm posting this link for you serious hardware geeks contemplating buying cheap MicroSD cards for your "Incredible". While there's no shortage of inexpensive flash memory out there, I recently read a very revealing article by someone who is involved with the production of the Chumby and who found himself having to perform forensic-type analysis on a sampling of MicroSD's in order to troubleshoot a production problem with the Chumby.

Here's the article for anyone who might be interested, it's germane to the thread because probably anyone who winds up buying an Incredible will want to also augment memory with a MicroSD card.

1. How do you know it's not in Android framework? At some point a device has to be first to have a new feature, just because none have had it before doesn't make it impossible
2. We don't know if it is an identical display, but the multitouch issue was verified to not be present
3. Cap was in early rumors and test units, later test units did not and leaked documents show no cap.
4. Do you have a source or was this from thin air?
5. You're right that it won't replace the Droid but supplement it
6. You can't just base things on previous models, just because you don't think they designed the incredible differently doesn't make it so.
