quick question about the built in flash on the browser

i live in ct and I know I won't be seeing 4g for a longggg time

so

do u think that over sprints 3g network, web pages with flash content will run as smoothly as it does on 4g?

or will content become choppy?
All I can say is; Flash works okay on my Hero, and it doesn't have the horsepower or the Ram the EVO has.

I hope they don't go with the first option you mentioned..I also wonder if the hotspot feature will be something you can add or remove from your service at anytime & be pro rated for the days that you have it activated..if they do come up with a new 4g rate plan i hope it's not to much higher & includes hotspot bundled into it..

The way Sprint treats all (existing, anyway) add-ons is that they will charge you X dollars each month for the service. Yes, these add-ons are removable/addable at any time and are pro-rated for the time for which it has been active. Unfortunately, they will not be able to charge you just for your usage (i.e. if you add the Hotspot add-on and don't use it once, you'll still pay the price for the full month).

Again, this is how treats existing add-ons, I'm not sure if this particular feature will change things.

When I asked about the same thing last fall, I was told the eligibility date is controlled by the computer, so they wouldn't let me go early.

first they usually let you renew two months before your upgrade. If they give you trouble if you ask they will do it especially if its only a difference of a month. If that doesn't work you can always through the i been a loyal sprint customer and maybe its time a check out my other options line.. Even though you would be totally bluffing this tends to work very well!!

Sprint wouldn't let me upgrade early as I mentioned.

@SprintTerp: Do you have comments to make on this subject? If you don't want to answer, that's okay.

Thanks

The earliest you can upgrade is the 18th of the month before you are actually upgrade eligible. They have become a lot stricter on when you can upgrade. I work for Sprint and have had to bump up customers eligibility. When I call NSS if its before the 18th there is nothing they can do.

yeah the 18th month is the cut-off.. which is a lot better than the average 22 months.. but if you are a premier customer you become eligible for the $150 discount after every year.

When I asked for an early upgrade, they wouldn't let me do it, but the Sprint rep called the very day I was eligible to remind me.

I just talked to a sales rep just to ask if it will be available for telesales (just wanted to know what they'd say). First of all - she didn't even know what an "EVO" was. She said

"umm ok let me ask my supervisor when that will be available"

then "oh we're not sure when it will be available but can I interest you in another phone such as the Palm Pre?"

ME: No thanks I already have that phone - can't you see that in my account? I called because I was interested in the EVO.

Her: "ok we can call you when it becomes available for sale. What's your number?"

ME: I just gave it to you. It was the first question you asked me when you answered.

Her: "oh ok. While I have you on, can I interest you in some accessories for your Palm Pre?"

ME: No thanks I have them all.

Her: "but I can give you a special discount on a blueto....

Hey everyone! We've been at a tourny in PA and i haven't had internet for a few days, it made me feel kinda lonely haha.

I met with Dan this weekend and he filled me in. The phone will not be available online for a while. I know you can by it at your sprint sore and that you will be able to reserve one via telesales, i dont know about directly buying it.

8gb internal memory. Hello Android market place much?!

Ohh and all the info coming out for the incredible has been fake. If you look at the info sent in you will see what i mean- 8gb internal memory but only 512 ROM. They are the same thing so yeah... haha

The device will be released "MOST LARGELY" to the public on the 13th. I was hinted, not directly told that there was some way you can get the phone on the 6th. Dan didn't know how either but hey, if you can find out go for it.

The price of the phone will be more around $250. Government and large companies have there own round about of ordering so it wont affect the general publics sales.

Now there are some interesting things regarding if you live in a 4G market or not. There are two options being debated i have been told. If you do live in a 4G market, (and i am not sure how exactly sprint plans around going about this) you may be charged an extra fee to use 4G, and there will be a different plan for you, as compared to if you do not currently live in a 4G market you will not be charged and if you magically pick up a signal then tell me how you got it =]. The second option is what makes sense to me. There will be no charge to ONLY use the phone on 4G. However if you use it as a hot spot it will cost $10 or $15 per month.

Hope that helped and Ill keep ya posted

Jackson
yo bud come back to the sprint forums!! and sounds good I wonder if the 6th is gonna be a premier customer thing again like the hero and tp2 turned out to be (got each of those a week before actual release date). Now drill your friend on other devices beyond the evo for us!

Bill, that is some interesting stuff, and it makes me bring up the point again that the all possibilities are open. It more than likely still will be LCD, that's what Dan was told and what i believe will happen. It will not be AMOLED. Maybe HTC is making their own version of Super AMOLED? I'm speculating here but why not? Its not like samsung is the only provider of Plasma TV's and Panasonic the only LCD provider. Perhaps thats why they are switching coorps?

My bet is on LCD from what I've been told, although i did hear that the viewing angle was pretty sweet so ill try and do some diggin

and to that link dylan put up earlier, it still only says "a 4.3 inch screen" not the type... i find that suspect and reason to change my opionion and ASSUME something else. Im gonna work hard to crack this one tonite. Ill post something later hopefully

Hi Jackson! Nice to see you here. :) I'm also traveling here from the Sprint community forums.

I'm going to agree with you that the screen is going to be TFT LCD. If anything, this news about HTC going with Atmel for touchscreen tech confirms it. For TFT LCD touchscreens, the actual display and the touchscreen element are two separate units (a contributing factor to size and a decrease in screen brightness since the touchscreen unit goes on top of the LCD display). The reason why Super AMOLED is brighter and thinner is because Samsung has found a way to integrate the two separate parts into one unit. So if HTC is using a third-party touchscreen manufacturer, such as Atmel or Synaptics, then the screen is definitely not Super AMOLED. It could still be an AMOLED screen with a touchscreen unit over it, but I'm thinking that that's unlikely since there are only a few companies right now making AMOLED displays (and I think Samsung is the only one doing so in serious volume), and we haven't seen any evidence that they're producing anything at the 4.3" size. HTC wouldn't be manufacturing the screen themselves, since they don't have the expertise and manufacturing equipment to do so. They design devices using specialized parts from other manufacturers.

I agree, it's a mystery. Someone else suggested yesterday after we learned about Atmel getting involved, that maybe they will come up with a whole new classification of screen type.

Hey Ben!!! Long time no see bud!

Yeah like i said the original one i saw was LCD and white with android 1.5. So some things have changed and others haven't haha

The incredible will be AMOLED screen though, don't know if its HTC built or what but it is AMOLED

Thanks, bendispo. I believe you're the one that brought this information to us yesterday. :)

I'll be happy if we don't get AMOLED. Someone a long time ago in this thread explained how that technology isn't what it's cracked up to be. Maybe that person will come forward again, or maybe I'll find the post I'm talking about.

What, didn't everyone here make one? :) I made one of the EVO and the Nexus One, just to see how they fit in my hands. :D

Oh I am serious. I not that crafty though. This was to get an idea of size compared to other objects around the house and my Hero. I did go to a Tmo store and try their dummy HD2 and my model was pretty close (the HD2 was sold out, at the store). No rounded edges of course.

:) I'm serious too. Mine are in my desk drawer at work, however, so I can't offer any evidence.

Ahh... look at the battery at about 37 sec and it would almost seem to lost 20% of it's battery in a blink of an eye... I hope the battery won't be an issue.....
Probably just a bad animation, they should have a couple more in between battery icons so it doesn't seem so dramatic

I'll be happy if we don't get AMOLED. Someone a long time ago in this thread explained how that technology isn't what it's cracked up to be.

I've been pretty mixed on AMOLED but I think I would like it. The biggest draw backs I have heard is it uses more power if you are viewing web pages (I'm guessing it has to do with white) and is not as viewable in sunlight. BUT I just saw a video of the Droid (LCD) vs the Nexus One (AMOLED) and the AMOLED screen was easier to see in the sunlight. LINK (It's not the best quality video but does the job).
Also I got to play with a friends Samsung Moment with has an AMOLED screen, (didn't care for the phone). Anyway the screen was amazing compared to my iPhone there was no shifting in color what-so-ever from extreme viewing angles.

So maybe it's still a little of a toss up right now but with a few more advancements I would bet in about 5 years OLED will have taken over the phone market. It really is amazingly vibrant.

LLS I didn't go as far as to make a model yet, but I have been looking around the house looking for things of similar size. Maybe I'll just go look at the HD2 like everyone else.

When I asked for an early upgrade, they wouldn't let me do it, but the Sprint rep called the very day I was eligible to remind me.

i online chatted on several occasions with sprint, asking for an early upgrade to be able to get a pre at launch. after many unsuccessful results (and one "false positive") i got a sprint expert to agree to a month and a half early upgrade (in the form of a several hundred dollar credit to my account after paying full price for the phone). the kicker of it all was they never reset my upgrade period. i'm eligible for an upgrade right now, so i'll be all set when the evo comes out.
