Been following/stalking this thread since almost the beginning, thanks for all the great info. I've been trying to prepare for my new smart phone for a few months now (have a list of apps to download on appbrain.com, fixed up my gmail contacts, set up gvoice, and gcal...).
Now that we're finally close to a release I had a couple of questions I was hoping you guys might have the answer to.
First, I know it was discussed MANY pages back, but are we sure if it's a micro usb or the proprietary htc usb cord? If it's the htc then I'm probably going to buy some extra so I'd like to have them ahead of time.
Second, for anyone that already has an android phone; when you're searching for contacts can you search by fields other than name? Like nickname. Does the contact list show all the other fields that you can put in for a contact?
Thanks again for all the hard work that's been put into this thread, I'm very much looking forward to finally having my android phone in the coming weeks.

I believe its been confirmed to be MicroUSB.

I just saw a Droid commercial. Why are they still promoting this phone? It has been around for 5 months already. I don't need anymore Droid advertisements.

Ummm.... because they wish to keep the idea of a Droid fresh so as to, um, maybe sell more to, um... maybe make more money?

Hey guys! So, if the Incredible does end up cheaper online than in store I will buy it online. Question: Do you trust the delivery truck to safely deliver it? I would be heartbroken if they deliver it to my front door, and when I open it the screen of my brand new Incredible is cracked :( I can only imagine that truck speeding along and going full speed over potholes. What do you guys think?

I usually order my phones online, because I prefer to get the online discount rather than have to wait 6-8 weeks for a mail-in rebate...esp now that the rebate comes in the form of a visa giftcard. My phones have always arrived in perfect condition.

What did you do to 'fix up' your gmail contacts?

Guys, I can confirm I have found the SKU for the Incredible screen protectors - 21,600 in the warehouse, if you wanted to know haha and I did find a SKU for an extended battery as well but no pics or anything. 0 in the warehouse, priced at 49.99.

Thought you guys might like to know. Hopefully I can find more things starting tomorrow when the ball starts rolling.

What sort of hint does this give you as to a time frame (if any)?

Sorry if I missed this already

I've never actually used the GV app (this will be my first smartphone), but from what I've seen, you can set it up so that whenever you make a phone call it will ask if you want to use GV or not. So you could dial from your contacts list and just choose the GV optioin when it asks.

There are three calling states for the GV app:

1. Don't use it at all
2. Ask to use it each time a call is place
3. Use it for all calls

I sent out texts & emails months ago to inform all of my contacts that I had a new phone number. It took a few weeks, but most of my contacts now use my GV number.

Thanks! I still can't figure out how to create and send a NEW sms. I get how you can receive one and reply thru email without using a text plan but how do you create and send a new one if there is no email to reply to?

If you're using the GV app on an Android phone all you have to do is start the app and compose a new message.

If you're not using the app or don't have an Android phone, you can initiate a new SMS via the GV website.

I like how it says living exclusively on America's Largest... That implies to me that this is is most likely the Incredible as the N1 is not exclusive.

If we look at earlier leaks, they mention a double release. Thus far all google N1 phone roll outs have been center on Tuesdays. The ATT band phone was late Monday evening (maybe the didn't want to work at mid-night?) So I think this may be a good week. I'll be doing a lot of traveling this week so hopefully they will release and I'll pick up my new toy while traveling.

It could also be, maybe, that there is one or more of these Microshaft phones, the Turtle or the Pink or the Oven Mitt (or whatever they want to call it :p ), that might be a VZW exclusive.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, could be.......

Heheheheh, Turtle, I still crack up every time I think about that as a name for a phone.

"Look Ron, I just got the new Turtle."
"Whoa, Dave, you. are. so. cool!" :p

It better be a really good phone, otherwise people will be calling it the Turd-le.

The e-mail made a point to list three bullets, and the last line of 3, 2, 1, blast off.....We have seen rumors of two new microsoft phones and that samsung phone all possibly being announced tomorrow. What if the three bullets hint at three releases, every Monday, for the next three weeks??? And what if the 3, 2, 1, blast off hints at how many phones are being announced resplectively (3 phones this Monday announced, 2 somethings announced on the 19th, and one phone (Incredible?) being announced on 26th???

I know it's a stretch and I have no evidence, but if Verizon announces three devices tomorrow, then I think I'm on to something.

What did you do to 'fix up' your gmail contacts?

I know I'm not the one you were asking, but figured I throw this out there. If you use backup assistant on your non-android phone you can log into it through your VZW on-line account and then download your contact list in .csv format. Then if you log into your gmail account that you will use for your android device you can import the csv file into your contacts. That way your contacts will (or should, from how I read it) pop up on your phone once you set it up with your gmail account.

Ouch. Well, thanks for pointing that out to me as I just rechecked after logging in, and got the same prices at you. $70 difference. Doesn't seem fair that new customers get the better deal here

I was logged in when I saw the $30 difference. I chose to upgrade a phone that was long overdue for an upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I'm currently with at&t. I was hoping to get a head start, but may have to wait until I get the phone. First smartphone, so I will be enjoying the discovery of its many features. :)

I am hoping that some of you reading here who are really into the internals of Android can shed some light on something which has been bothering me and I am questioning about the Incredible. It is regarding the inability to do true hands free dialing using a bluetooth headseat. Virtually all dumb phones which support bluetooth and other smartphones can do it.

I have read elsewhere it has to do with Google disabling the recognition of the "announce" from bluetooth. I am assuming that is what is sent when pressing the button on the headset for such purposes. I have also read that Android is weak on bluetooth altogether. Another mentioned that google sent voice commands into their "cloud" to process and send something back to the handset. Whatever the case, it all adds up to not being able to legally initiate calls in places like California and other states with "hands free" laws. I won't currently go off on my rant about makeup, coffee, burgers, stereo and gps systems, etc... and the necessity for using hands on in those cases.

I know someone with a Samsung Moment (Android OS - currently 1.5) and it can do true hands free dialing from the bluetooth headset using some voice recognition by Nuance. It does this out of the box.

My question for those in the know is, is there something which can be done to our Incredible which will allow true hands free dialing from a bluetooth headset so those of us in Google's home state can legally use the phones with their beloved OS on it? It seems like Google has been very aware of this issue since 2007 and has yet to address it. I'm to the point of contacting my state Assemblyman and Senator and ask them to make noise about legislation to disallow the sale of any cell phone (smart phone anyway) which does not allow hands free dialing. Google, "can you hear me now"?

Download a program called Voice Dial HF. Excellent program that should do what you want, well worth the 4 bucks!

Its about 2 weeks. Its a lot quicker now.

If you're not using the app or don't have an Android phone, you can initiate a new SMS via the GV website.

You can also just click the message icon on any contact and choose GV as the action to use. If you would like to make GV the default messenger just select it at this time.

Love that site! A friend of mine who has a Droid recommended it to me. I've currently got 81 apps on my list of things I want to try out :o

xfuchsiax's Apps to Try

I don't think it mentions it anywhere obvious on the site, but they hide apps and/or developers who get really crappy ratings in the search results. You can still click on them if you want, but their appearance is minimized.

I found your list on the other thread as well and made one of my own! Many thanks for pointing it out. :)

Theoretically..... Could you call-forward everything to GV and then use the Android app?? Thereby eliminating the need for voice minutes?? Can texting be forwarded with GV? Probably not, but just thought I'd throw that out there...

-GV newb (very interested though :) )

At this point there is no way to eliminate voice minutes using Google Voice. Any time you talk on your cellphone, using your Verizon number or your Google Voice number, it will count against your minutes. The way GV works is that when someone calls your GV number, it forwards it on to whatever phone you specify. In this case it would forward it to your Incredible, therefore, it will use your plan's minutes. When you call someone with your GV number, it first calls your phone and then calls whatever person you want to call. So it still uses your cell phone's minutes.

The only thing that GV can save you $$ on is texting. That's because using the GV app to text will be seen by Verizon as using data, and therefore it will be included in your $30-per-month unlimited data plan. So you won't have to get a texting plan on top of your data plan. Unfortunately, if you do a lot of picture/video messaging, you'll still need to use Verizon's plan. That's because Google Voice does not support MMS (picture/video/audio) messaging. Hopefully that's something that's integrated in the future.

It's something that may begin to be possible at some point in the future by using VOIP. Then all the voice would be seen as data. Apparently with some basic workarounds you can already do this while on wi-fi. I can't verify this personally but from some reading and looking over some apps, it sounds very possible. This WOULDN'T eliminate all your voice minutes but would give you extra talk time. You might want to try some google searching for more concrete info.

Actually if your plan has F&F, with GV you can make and receive unlimited airtime free calls.

This is true but you do give up caller ID to do this, right? The workaround is to set your incoming phone number through GV to only show your GV number and not to pass along the caller's ID. So you get unlimited calling if you list your GV number as one of your F&F numbers.

Last GV post from me, I promise...

Can someone tell me if there is a speed dial feature in the android app? I have to admit that I know very few actual phone numbers. I dial straight from contacts list. If I had to actually dial everyone's number in the app, I don't think I'd use it much.

I've never actually used the GV app (this will be my first smartphone), but from what I've seen, you can set it up so that whenever you make a phone call it will ask if you want to use GV or not. So you could dial from your contacts list and just choose the GV optioin when it asks.

That's what I had seen as well, though I've not used it yet personally since the Inc will be my first Android phone. :) However, check out the video below. It shows some of the basic functionality of the GV app and how to use it.

Thanks! I still can't figure out how to create and send a NEW sms. I get how you can receive one and reply thru email without using a text plan but how do you create and send a new one if there is no email to reply to?

OK, this is an imperfect part of the system but there are some things you can do. Go to the GV web interface and send some texts to your friends MAKING SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE REPLIES FORWARDED TO EMAIL. Once you get their reply in your email, you'll have an email address assigned to their phone number automatically by GV (as the "from" email). You can then add that email to your friend in google contacts as "other" or whatever you like. When you want to send them an SMS via email, just use that email address. A little kludge but it works. Also, look for any GV extension in the browser that you use. The GV extension in Chrome browser is wicked awesome. You can send SMS directly from there with a couple of clicks, see your inbox and also make calls.

It gets delivered to the store somehow. They will definitely send it insured and most of the time overnight so it'll get some of the best treatment possible for a shipped item. I think I'd be more worried about a forklift dropping a pallet of them. Remember to inspect the pkg before signing and you always have your 30 days to exchange if something is wrong with it.

I hope someone can help with my confusion. I want this phone but we need to get a family plan going for three people. My wife is eligible for NE2 now so we figure to get her phone before starting plan. If I use NE2 at BB for my Incredible can we still get family plan from Verizon or what? I guess I don't quite get the affiliation of BB to VZ.

Do you already have the other lines activated yet and want to consolidate them or do you want to add them. You can definitely use your NE2 but you might get a better deal if you do the whole thing at once. Sometimes they'll offer free phones (usually semi basic feature phones but still...) or a really cheap deal on a slightly better phone. If they know that you're adding three lines and a data plan, they'll like that and might give you some extra breaks. Maybe one of the VZW reps on here could confirm.

I've been doing the same thing...though I've used gmail, gcontacts, gcal etc for ages. I added photos to as many of my contacts as I could, made sure that I added their FB pages, had their addresses, phone numbers etc all cleaned up and as up to date as I could. My next project is tackling my photos and probably adding space on my Google acct so I can sync all my photos from my pc and phone via picasa web and picasa desktop. I'm rather showing some OCD over this phone. :o

What is this, National Treasure? ;)

It's pretty much confirmed that Monday's announcement is going to be the Microsoft Pink phones. If this is a Microsoft event, that will likely be all they announce, if it is more of a Verizon event, there is a small chance they'll also announce a few other phones/devices that day.

As for the three bullets, they could all be describing the pink phones (Zune is all about social and sharing etc. and pink phones are supposed to be exclusive to Verizon), or they could be talking about three different devices, but I wouldn't be trying to decipher this as some kind of puzzle or hidden message.

So... I just got finished eating Macaroni Gril...

Can any Verizon or BB workers try to see if they can get a screenshot of the screen protectors or extended batteries w/prices? :D
