Root [RECOVERY][EVO4GLTE] TWRP 2.6.1 with on-screen keyboard!

So, I've been trying most of the day to get TWRP onto an EVo.

Goo doesn't install if it was never there to begin with I guess as I doesn't work for me. So, I have the TWRP files onto 2 different computers and I can't get the phone and p.c. connected. I have it on a laptop running Ubuntu with the sdk and recovery image in an android folder on the home screen but I'm not sure of my commands I need to run.

I also tried installing the HTC drivers for my windows 8 machine but again I can't get it to recognize the phone.

Any suggestions?

Edit, it is an S-on evo with the 1.12 Hboot. Its been rooted with Zedomax and has SU but no recovery.

i have the commands in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte...g-dummies-guide-lazypanda-racun-unlocked.html. if you skip down to section 2>HTCdev method>step 2 for instructions on how to get recovery. now the one i have listed is for an older version. i will updated it when i get a chance later.

OCN, I was going by that guide on how to add TWRP after rooting with Zedomax.

For some reason I couldn't get a connection. So i tried again with the win 8 machine and with it connected I turned the phone off and it booted into bootloader on it's own.

In the device manager it says fastboot interface under adroid usb devices.

So it seems to be closer. But when I right click to open a command window from the folder with the SDK tools and the Recovery image it comes up with a C: prompt and what ever I type is not recognized.

So I think my drivers are good. When I put "fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-jewel.img" it says not recognized. Do I need to change from a C: prompt?

Eidt: it says "fastboot" no recognized as an external or internal command.

Thanks

first do you have the adb folder (i call my folder android) setup? do you have the twrp.img file in it? a

lso you need to make sure that the command window is opend in the right folder. so make sure that the command path is correct. in windows 8 you can hold shift while right clicking on the folder and type the command in.

Yup. I put the Mini sdk tools in a folder called android on my desktop. with the recovery img.

Should I open the folder before opening the Command window? I was doing it from outside of the folder. I hold shift and right click the folder. and the command prompt opens up. Then I type the command listed in the guide and it says fastboot not an external or internal command.

I feel so bad for the S-onners that use this for kernels and boot img's. Oi;)

the folder only needs the three files i have listed in the guide + any file you want to fastboot command to the phone. so if you have a folder within the the folder then you need to have the command path to that folder.

for me i pulled the three files out of the sdk folder and created the android folder.

my command path is:
c:\users\ocnbrze\desktop\android>

So I should dump the mini sdk-tools then and DL the three files you have listed?

I'll give that a shot. And move them into the folder still zipped or unzip them?

Currently my Command window that pops up is C:\users\Nathan\Desktop\android

leave them zipped and just move them to a folder. the mini sdk should have them though.

Now it says "waiting for device" .

It's been connected for quite awhile. Should I reboot the bootloader? Then select fastboot again?

Thanks so much for the help OCN!!

So the Mini sdk wouldn't allow it to work. I wonder why. I DL'ed the three files and it started to work right away. Weird.

Thanks again!

So the reboot bootloader question is the last one..... I promise.

in the bootloader select fastboot....sorry forgot to mention that.

It is. It still says waiting though. I rebooted the bootloader and reselected fastboot a couple times. And it's not making a difference.

I'm rebooting the phone and then going back to the bootloader.
Thanks for taking the time to assist.

Being S-on with a 1.12 hboot shouldn't be preventing it right?

It does say
"tampered"
"locked"
"security warning"

at the top of the bootloader.

Edit: Do I need a recovery to s-off? As that is my intent.

wait it says locked? you need to have an unlocked bootloader to do this.

Gotcha. I kind of thought so.

Umm your missing a step in your root guide.:D:p

I would have used Regaw's method but they are blocking his binaries I think.

So it doesn't work.

Oh, well don't I feel sheepish.:o:o

Oh I was following the rooting instructions in section 1. Again sorry to bug you with something I should know by now.

Thanks OCN!!

Weirdly HTC doesn't list the Evo 4G lte as one to unlock the bootloader. Strange.

use the "other supported devices" option and it should work

I'm doing that. Although this is also stuck waiting. Would it be because I rooted it already? Should I have unlocked first? And I can't s-off without the recovery?

So If I want to unroot it is there an easy way? Or should I just take some OTA's to get to a higher Hboot for Dirty racun?

Oi, I've made a mess of this.

no do not take the ota. no point in that.

where is it stuck waiting? are you still trying to get recovery? if so you can't not until the bootloader is unlocked. once it is unlocked then you can get recovery.

if you want s-off then follow the dirty racun guide on team unlimited's site.

edit: in their guide they have the ruu's to update the phone.

It sits waiting while trying to get the token. through fastboot.

It says waiting for device.

I'm wondering if it won't retrieve it since the bootloader says tampered and has a security warning I assume from rooting it.

I found the current RUU to match exactly what I have now. Should I run that or is there a way to remove the root?

curious did you re-lock the bootloader?what is your hboot and baseband?

and are you sure you are in fastboot as well?

This is a different phone that has never been unlocked. it is a 1.12 hboot with the original baseband.

So I rooted it with Zedomax's way today and then was going to flash a recovery when you brought to my attention that I need the bootloader unlocked.

Get s-off!:)

RX, Don't I need to be htc unlocked first? Or can I just go for it? I'm still trying to get the hTC token.
