the picture doesn't state or show a new back piece for the battery. one can hope!!

You can see that there is an extra ridge just under the camera that follows around the flash. So the Verizon Extended battery will require a new back plate and increase the thickness. Hopefully Seido can create an extended battery that won't require a new back plate ... Although I'm sure not a 2150 mAh battery.

As for the extended battery & cover, I missed where the page specified that it is an "Extended Battery Cover"

I would bet it is the proximity sensor or a light sensor for auto screen brightness.

Yes, but it looks like it has a red accent similar to how there is a red accent on the camera on the back. Proximity sensors aren't usually accented.

that is the verizon logo, not a camera, and not the proximity sensor which is on the other side I believe

I'd call again. That hasn't been what others have said... And if it has, usually they "grandfather" you in on the status that it was when you signed your last contract. That's how it is with my NE2 discount.

VIP and annual upgrade have nothing to do with each other. Yes, the VIP program was ended in February. Annual upgrades are still there. As long as you're on a plan of $49.99 or higher (not including features) for at least 3 months and it's been at least 12 months since your last upgrade, then you will be eligible.
