The wimax 2 is really just wimax. No real difference. Just faster and 100% compatible with current tech.

I do not think sprint will ever support wimax-m. No reason. The 10Mbps is faster then most people need.

At that speed you could stream 1080p movies, like 4 of them and still have room.

hi guys I'm new to the forum, but have been following it since I heard about the evo. ill be switching from tmobile when this phone comes out. I'm mainly switching because of the screen size and processor, everything else is a bonus for me.

since I'm a new customer, will I be allowed to buy the phone from bestbuy? or is best buy for current customers only? also, do you guys think that 4g will be ready in NY by the time the phone is released? I'm really exited and really want it in my hands.

Hmm, I wonder if one of the 'beasts' Self Praise alluded to may be the HTC Scorpion. Interesting info.

From all that I've read of the matter, LTE seems largely unnecessary, because even if it could be theoretically faster than Wimax, no normal user would ever achieve higher speeds, same with Wimax, and what River said makes sense regarding Wimax 2, there is absolutely no reason for Sprint and Clearwire to upgrade to it since the boost in speed may be largely irrelevant to mobile phones, since their speeds are capped anyway.

Perhaps 4-5 years in the future, when/if battery technology can catch up, Wimax 2 or a similar technology could be considered for mobile distribution.

I think its safe to rule out a competing Android device - from what we've seen Sprint is treating this as its flagship Android device. The realistically leaves a windows mobile device (first new device with Windows Mobile 7?), a new iPhone, or something from Palm (which is doubtful to me).

Whether the Iphanboys want to admit it or not, Android is the biggest threat to apple's market share and an MID would strengthen it's stronghold.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the iPhone 4G running on Sprint's WiMAX service.

Rumors a few months ago were saying HTC is working on a tablet. It would be sweet to see that with the Qualcomm dual-core 1.5GHz chip running on WiMAX.

Not yet, but the iGoogle widget works just fine. Click on the link that Sprint provides you when you get to that bells and whistles page.

Rumors a few months ago were saying HTC is working on a tablet. It would be sweet to see that with the Qualcomm dual-core 1.5GHz chip running on WiMAX.

That would be awesome.

I think the whole android vs iphone thing is the same as the pc vs mac thing. Do i want an device that I can customize as much as I want and make it do what I want or do I want a device that works but is exactly the same as everyone else's.

Jackson told us that on Friday, Sprint is going to start their advertising campaign to make the public aware of the EVO 4G. We're all hoping they come out slugging like Verizon did when they announced the Droid. This phone is so much more newsworthy and when combined with WiMAX is something most tech people aren't going to be able to resist. Jackson also thought we'd know more about pricing and availability on Friday as well, so we're excited and looking forward to the 16th.

Another date to look forward too... ooooooh the wait! I hope HTC/Sprint ads rock... it will be a crying shame if they do not

Clearwire Asks for LTE Standard it Can Use

These types of article's and other post make be worry about the future of wimax and the purchase of my EVO. I know several people have said that how can LTE win when it's not deployed, but to me it seem that wimax is just a short term fix and not the long term answer. And if not the long term answer then how long, is clear and sprint (not officially on board with wimax2) going to pursue LTE? Dan Hesse and the clearwire CEO have made it clear that they wanted to get edge on the market, clearwire CEO wants a merger with Wimax and LTE. I replace my phone every year, but I was planning on keeping the EVO for maybe two years or so. I am going to be one pissed off customer if they switch to LTE next year and my phone is moving slower on wimax and not compatible with new technology for the next two years.

I thought that the move to LTE would be software only and that it would then be compatible with the Evo pending a software update.

Maybe I'm wrong?

But just overall... if you look at this forum and the way it has been administered as a "friendly" place to be, can you see how the lack of trolling, negativity, confrontations - it has become what most forums should strive to be like. WOW! FIrst of all welcome to the forums Perpetual. Best Buy will definitely welcome you as a new customer to Sprint. I've been to a lot of different BBs and they welcome new customers because most of them are well trained in the whole new customer sign up process. I think you are at an advantage if you go with BB because they do the instant rebate for you too! As far as being in NY - I pinged a 4G Sprint rep to ask for you. I'll let you know what she says. But man...can you imagine all the EVO ads popping up in the bright lights of times square?

I think you are safe for 2 years LTE is barely going to be deployed at that time so wimax will still be holding its own. further out who knows but 2 years I think we're all safe.

I think someone had posted before, but this is the first time I got to look at it from a PC (saw it from my phone last night).

Anyhow, is it just me or does anybody else have problem viewing each of the pictures on Engadget? When I click on a specific picture, nothing happens.
