The RUU is already rooted. It is a developer build, so it is rooted so you can do stuff from ADB.
If you want it to be rooted like the other custom ROMs then you just do the same process as those images and it roots you. However, once rooted you can't do much until you install busybox. Not difficult, but it is a few more steps. Well worth it though because you do have to remove the stock apps if you want them gone.
If you run the RUU file you do not need to root, just run the program and it updates your phone.You have to be rooted to install any 2.1 until the Sprint release comes out. I have heard that they may remove the ability to root in the final 2.1 release.
Haven't heard of busybox, and did not need it to do what I wanted. I used Pre-Kitchen to uninstall the Sprint apps.
Is busybox included in Pre-Kitchen or the roms themselves?
