Root Eris All things ROOT THREAD: Apps and ROMS Updated 05/06/2010

I can't believe you lied to me... I thought youre supposed to be a guide :) and then making a hookers phone all great, I'm just a little hurt

LMAO.
Sorry bout that....thats what ya get when you have Guide that works with android and winmo Roms....
My bad.

Cheers!

Well... here we go, i got a rooted 2.1 Droid Eris, i want it back to 1.5 100% stock. So I've been following the instructions with detail. I got the drivers of the phone on my PC with HTC Sync, got the sdk and I tested it on the command prompt and I got the # showing, so all that is working and I know its a rooted phone, so far so good... Ok, when I get to put the Amon's recovery on the phone and I have to set the files on the sdk tools, and put the command on ms dos, I'm not really sure if there getting to work (yes its on charge only... ohh and usb debugging is on) because when I get to the first one it's starts fine, but from the second to the last command it;s telling me:cannot stat xxxx: no such file or directory... But I booted my phone, (vol up + power button) and I get the green android with a triangle on top holding an exclamation symbol, then its starts to "Android system recovery <2e>" with menus like:Rebbot System menu, apply sdcard:update.zip, wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition. I asked in the live chat, and they told me that's Amon's recovery. So I when to the downgrade part(this thread) and downloaded the file, and I did exactly what had to be done with the files, they have been placed in the right directories. So I reboot as said in the instructions all the way to the "Android system recovery <2e>.I do as told on istructions, wipe cache then factory reset, but here it's when I knew it wasn't going as supposed to. Where it was supposed to say to flash the downgrade.zip, I got the menu command that says "apply sdcard: update.zip", I did anyways thinking that it was going to work like that, but it didn't I'm still on 2.1 plus I had to activate my phone a couple of times because I have tried quite a few times (i even tried to rename donwgrade.zip with update.zip)but no positive results... Hopefully thats enough detail for u guys, and hopefully you can help me.. Is it better spelled now? I hope so... And hey you guys wanted details, right?... lol.

Holy giant, misspelled, poorly punctuated, run-on sentence-packed paragraph Batman!

Seriously though dude, I lost track of what was going on about 4 lines into that paragraph. Try and clean it up a bit so it's easier to read. :)

Sorry guys for all that huge paragraph, I just wanted to include every detail of how I did it. This happens when you don't pay too much attention at school and your main language it's not english... hehe

LMAO.
Touche' Sir!

This is directed towards GrdLock because it was his image I used.

I used the second root PBOOIMG in your list of roms and I am stuck.
First, navigation force-closes when I look for directions and the same goes for maps. Also every so often the touch keyboard freezes and leaves images burnt into the screen. I have downloaded the SDK for mac but can't run it. I'm missing an enormous step. When I run a terminal and the sdk and adb commands listed in your guide I get

adb [enter]
-bash: adb: command not found.

I want to do the following:

  • fix the force closing
  • get the sdk up and running on my mac
  • install a recovery image
  • start trying not roms preferably grdlocks nexus beta
Hope this thread isn't dead and I can get some help Ive had 3 eris's before I finally got root and can't stop now

I am loving 2.1root! I do have a question though, I want to change the colors. As in, everything that's green, is blue atm, and I want it to be a dark purple. I don't know how to do that, anyone give me some help?

Welcome to root. There is a lot more you can do as well other than change colors. Like removing certain apps that came with android. Just search here and you will find what you need to do so.

In answering your question, you would have to edit apk's and then resign them and then push them. Here is a post to get you started.

sorry about the really noob post, I dug around and figured out everything but I navigation and google maps still force closes. Also am I able to uninstall patches for example the nexus launcher and live wallpaper patch

which ROM you using for the fc's? and yes, yuo can remove those patches, either through adb or uninstalling it like a regular app

im new to this whole modding of phones. so if i root my eris does that mean i can download apps from the market for free like with a jailbreaked IPhone?

NO! it gives you access to removing system files, editing, etc. Not paying for apps is not good. You are stealing from the devs.

your not going to get any support for that kind of thing here or on any other open source community. the only thing root is used for is so you can customize your phone beyond what HTC or verizon intended.

Ivan's 0.8t2 is pretty recognized as faster, more stable than, and cleaner than Ivan's 0.7.

Great thread here. Keep up the good work.
