Help How to reroot after 4.2.2 update

Mossey

Newbie
I used Wugs 1.6.2 root toolkit to root(4.2.1). I installed the 4.2.2 update and lost root. I also seemed to have lost any recovery. Quick boot was working before update. Now nothing. I have tried rerooting using the same toolkit. But I get a message saying ADB device was found but is offline. I had real problems installing the drivers initially on my Windows 8 notebook. What is the correct procedure for rerooting? and tips to get my drivers installed again/properly.

Try using SkipSoft's toolkit in my sig. Delete all existing drivers and start from fresh just like your rooting for the first time.

Ok Fuzzy13 that worked well, I am rerooted. I still have 1 issue I have no recovery, When I try to reboot into recovery, I get the little Android with a red exclamation mark and a message No file! Can I just uninstall Quickboot recovery and reinstall CWM or Quick boot. I think I need to be able to push the file to phone and not quite sure with no recovery. Thanks for your help!

You can flash a recovery using that toolkit, too (just like Wug's). I haven't used MSkip's kit, but it looks like selection #6. I'm sure you'll see which choice to make.

Or, you can fastboot flash after downloading the recovery you want and placing it in the root of the same folder that has ADB and Fastboot files

You can ALWAYS root a nexus device :D

I actually have a write up for those interested in doing it manually over in the nex 7 forums. Same process you just have to make sure you download the recovery for your device

Success! I now have CWM recovery. I used the toolkit but it wouldn't stick until I went in and renamed the recovery file an then reflashed recovery. Voila! Thanks, everyone for your help!
