Root JB for Connect.

Well I've been trying to learn how to merge drivers into the iproj kernel that PlayfulGod was working on. Thought I would seek some help out on how to do that.

What I know is that PlayfulGod had used the cayman kernel from the lucid and spectum. The Video device is different. The VS840 aka LG Viper has the same exact video hardware with ICS drivers. So I'm trying to merge those drivers into the iproj kernel.

The prebuilt spectrum kernel and cm10 that PlayfulGod has installs and adb is accessible but there is no display and it is not responsive to anything.

I can link to the prebuilt kernel and rom package that I built off it to see. I'll even try to get a logcat for what's going on during startup.

Other than that I'm at a loss right now not knowing "C" and the trying to catch up with kernel building. At the moment there is slow progress on the dev's working on this model phone so I figure as a mass and collectively knowledge can prevail in this situation.

So is this a working romantic for the connect???

It looks like a CM10 base that will flash but not boot, and no video. I think it's a great step forward for having JB on the Connect; all we need now is a meeting of the minds to get a CM based kernel going :D I wish I knew more about compiling and building this stuff so I could help out :( All I can do really is test stuff, but I'm also willing to help out any other way I can if needed.

Big thanks again to everybody involved with the Connect!

hmm....no video at all? let me see what I can do

Well according to the OP. I didn't attempt to flash this yet, I'd be more willing to do it if I had a backup phone. The LG Lucid and Viper are matches for our Connect, but one is closer to the Connect than the other, I forget which one, PlayfulGod knows tho :D

Please tell me you found something :D I'm in the VV3/VV4 thread working on flashing the VV voLTE firmware from the MS840V to see if that works better than stock ZVA LOL... It's been quite a night in the Connect ATR!

The Lucid is closer to our devices than the Viper. However. they still share the same screen size, and the processor type. Im going to port this over from our stock and see what happens. Give me ten minutes. My girl is stuck in Phoenix for the night getting back home. She missed her flight, had to get her a hotel

Sorry to hear!

Exactly what is in OP, possibly a missing kernel and no video. That's why I wish I could help here but I know very little about this stuff :( And looks like adknight was supposed to drop a couple of links here too

He is using what I have thus far for CM10 for the connect, which is a converted repo for the Spectrum. Its a very WIP repo atm and it does not boot fully AKA NOT USABLE!!!

adknight posted it in hopes of getting help on it, not just random comments from the peanut gallery. ;)

Here is a beta cm10 build for ya see if it boots if u get a soft brick there a unbrick guide flash at your own risk http://tinyurl.com/connectcm10

It boots, so congrats on that, PM me with some details of what you/yall did.

bad part... android.phone fc's do you cant really do anything, prolly ril related. gonna try commenting out some stuff in the build.prop to see if that be stopped for the moment.

Had to rm Phone.apk to stop the fc's. seems to run smooth, no ril atm, wifi just stays on turning on, sound works, camera works, bluetooth pairs with my Gnexus, sdcard mounts, internal storage shows.

Sorry guys been away back and forth learning and dealing with life. Real thanks goes to PlayfulGod and his kernel I have been learning from for this project. Inspires me to try and cram a lot of this linux stuff into this noggin of mine. I'm always hanging in the IRC chat.
