Help efs Folder Contents

Hi Guys,

I am hoping you can help me with a problem.

I have a brand new GalaxyS2 i9100, which is on ICS 4.0.4 IMM76XWLPW - XXLQ6 Baseband version, Kernel 3.0.15-1056084 dpi@DELL168#3(SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 22 2:55:24 KST 2012).

The phone is not rooted, but what I did, was upload a copy of my efs folder to my PC, obviously incorrectly, using My Phone Explorer.

I thought it was just a matter of uploading the folder to my PC and it could be used in an emergency, I thought it would just copy the folder.

What I have discovered, is that all the contents of the efs folder are now on my PC and the efs folder in my phone, is empty!!!!

I am now unable to get the files, back into my phones efs folder storage.

When I enter *#06# into my phone, the IMEI number shows up and is correct.

I also have a copy of the original efs folder, on my External SD Card, also using My Phone Explorer!!.

I have not changed anything else on the phone, other than removing the efs folder contents to my PC. Is there a way, to get all the contents back into my phones efs folder, without having to "Root," using say....Emulator or something?

Would a "Hard Reset" on this unrooted stock phone, restore the efs folder to factory settings??

Thank You.

See the last paragraph in Slug's post, here.

I'm afraid not. A problem with the efs folder, without a backup, usually requires a visit to a Samsung Service Point.

Hope this helps!

EDIT kelis32 pipped me to the post. He's the expert on this as it was from his thread that I took the above information.

Wouldnt say expert ;) needs must was the scenario, i actually dont think he has done anything untoward, if his IMEI is present then i imagine so is his EFS, its probably a "view" issue in that he cant see the contents but if he has a netowrk signal etc etc then all should be well.

A reboot would prove it either way

Cheers

Hi Guys and thanks for your replies.

Look I'm a bit of a noob, with all this stuff and I don't exactly understand the process, mentioned in Slug's last paragraph.

In reply to kelis32, the phone appears to be working o'k, I have a strong 3G signal, I can make and receive calls, but as I'm not rooted, I can't do much with the files, as it's read only.

ES File explorer and Root Explorer, show me the efs folder, but won't let me open it or copy and paste files to it.

I still have the phones efs folder in place, but I can't open it (read only)and I have an efs folder copy on my external sd card and on my computer, containing all the files.

I just wanted to find a way, to get the file contents back into the original efs folder, without having to root the phone.

Is there an easy process to root, then copy the files over and then unroot, as the phone is only two days old and I don't want to blow the warranty?

Thank You.

Hi again, I've just discovered, that the latest Official Firmware for Australia is ICS i9100 XWLPW-i9100 XSALP6, now that is the same firmware, I have on my stock phone, the only thing I can't check is the Modem XXLQ6, which is on my phone.

I assume the official firmware for Australia, would have this same Modem!!

Seeing as I can't get the files back into the efs folder, without rooting.

1. Couldn't I just flash a fresh copy, of the same firmware, over the top of my current firmware, hoping this will refresh the files in the efs folder?

2. If this will work, is there anything special I should do, before I re flash, like wipe cache etc........remember, I only have the stock recovery.

3. After the reflash is complete, is there anything else I need to do other than reboot?

4. I already have a backup of my apps and data on my external SD Card.

Would this rebuild the firmware in total and save me rooting?

Thank You.

As SLUG already wrote, your /efs folder is intact. You just can't see what's in there because you are not rooted, that's all, but it isn't empty. If it was, your phone wouldn't work.

If you your phone is not rooted how would you able to deleted files from EFS folder.

You can root the phone and Unroot when you restored those missing files.

Have you try Unlockroot free version.
