Help SUPER slow speeds transferring files over wifi

Has anyone found a way to speed up file transfers from a computer to an android cell phone?

Right now, Its taking about 2 hours to transfer 2 gbs of data. Thats crazy. I can transfer the same file from one computer to another in under 15 minutes. Why is the android transfer so slow? Any way to fix?

It really shouldnt matter what android file explorer I am using, But i use "File Manager" by rhythm software to log into my computer remotely and transfer that way.
 
What class is your sd card?

Maybe your remote connection isn't very fast or stable?

I haven't had any issues transferring data while connected to the PC via USB cable. And I only have a class 4 card. I think it took me a couple hours to transfer about 29 gb of data. If I had to guess, I would start with the remote connection. Try connecting via USB cable when you can and transfer the same data and see if it's significantly faster. If so, you may have found the culprit.

I also have the class 4 8 gb memory card that came with the phone, And when I do a USB trasnfer, It transfers around 4 mbs a second, depending on the file(s) being transferred.

Transferring the same file over wifi will take 10x longer for some strange reason. I have a newer N router rated to 300 mbps so that shouldnt be a problem. I know I am never going to get more than what the SD card can write to, But 50-100kbps over wifi vs 4mbps over USB is a BIG difference.

I just want the ability to move files easily without having to pull the USB cable out of the charger and have to sit at a computer to move files over, When I can get at them anywhere in the house over wifi with the same transfer speeds if possible.

I also have tried setting up an FTP server on my computer, Hoping that might boost the speeds, But it transfers at the same rate.
 
Is the problem only with file transfers to the pc or do you also have the same thing when downloading large files over wifi? Just trying to figure out a starting point for troubleshooting, at least here we're removing the comp from the picture.

Hmmmm well it sounds like doing it over wifi is definitely the problem... Why exactly? I'm not really sure. Wifi definitely isn't my area of expertise. But if you have significantly faster speeds with the data cable it's pretty obvious where the problem lies. I just don't know exactly what the problem is
 
It seems to be both upload and download between my phone and the computer. It must have something to do with the wireless.

I also have tried moving closer to the router, But I have full wifi service no matter where I am anyway. Didnt make a difference.

I have tried to move a 2gb+ movie to my phone from the computer and I also have tried to upload a ROM backup to my computer from my phone (2gb+ also, But 8 or so files(Shouldnt be much different speed wise)) and it goes SO slow I end up canceling it from getting impatient and end up hooking it up through the USB to do what I have to do.

I cannot understand what the problem could be. The files on my computer that are shared are set to full access for everyone, And I dont use any sort of firewall/antivirus besides MSE and defender.


For smaller files, Moving stuff through the wifi isnt a problem at all. But for larger files, It really is a pain :banghead:
 
Like I said, what kind of speed do you see when using your wifi for large downloads, if you see decent speeds there then you know that it's not between the router and phone. Another thing to try using Airdroid and see if it might be software related, just try changing one variable at a time to try narrowing where the issue resides. Are you talking about our download speed from our ISP? We get 50mbps down and 10 up. I did a speed test just now on my phone and it says 30, Which isnt the fastest it can go, But it seems to be fast enough. 30mbps is 3mbs a sec or so, bits and bytes always get me confused. I dont think its the phones wifi. Im gonna try a few more things before I end up giving up on it for now.

Thanks for trying to help though, And Ill definitely update on the situation.

I think I am going to try using the wifi tether app and see if it works that way, Connecting it directly to my phone through adhoc or something. Its worth a shot to see if it makes a difference.
 
Don't just do a speed test, that only downloads about a meg of data, try downloading a rom or a large game and see what your speed is.

As you may or may not know you can only download/upload as fast as ALL your hardware allows you to yeah you may have a N wireless Router but far as i know the HTC evo V 4G does not support N wireless it only does B/G wireless so you will not be able to get N wireless speeds unless the phone allows you to be connected threw N i think i was reading some where that after a update the HTC 3D no longer supported N wireless so im not sure if the HTC evo v 4G even supports N you should look into that. the only fix i can think off is to flash a ROM that clearly states that it supports N wireless or maybe try flashing the HTC 3D old ROM that had N wireless enable other then that unless you are connected threw N wireless signal you will never get N wireless speeds
edit: nope can't find any where that list the HTC evo V 4G to support N wireless but one quick way to test is to set your router to broadcast N wireless only and see if you can connect your phone to it and you can browse the internet and everything is working
 
This Page says it does have N wireless built in. I know I am not going to get super fast speeds, But I am looking for at least somethning a little faster than 100kbps.

I ended up downloading GTA 3 for kicks, And the data file is about 600mb. Took about 7 minutes to download.

EDIT: This page from this site also says it has wireless N.
