here you go:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html

the guide will have everything that you need. you can use the latest htc sync or you can use the one in the guide. either one will work.

if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

read through it quickly I was wondering what is the downside to the htc method/// i get the void warranty but i don't have one is there an issue i will have with side loading apks? I looks to have the fewest steps but i want the ability do do anything more so than most because this device will never be a phone again and so i really want to dive in and remove some software. more than your average bloat.

the only thing you can't do with the HTCdev method is bootloader flash PC36IMG files. these are files that are generic in name but is used to flash radios, recoveries, splash screens, bootanimations, and ruu's. you can technically flash the PC36IMG file provided that they are signed by HTC. but, most of those files are not.....however there are other ways to accomplish it depending on what you need to do......if that makes sense....LOL

fortunately the htc og evo has it easy. for the htc evo 4g lte, there is a much bigger devide between the comfort of having s-off vs s-on, unlocked.

so it is up to you how you want to go. either way we can steer you in the right direction if you need it.

need?? no i wont need to change animations ect but i will want to down the road so im guessing i'll be tacoing tomorrow or monday probably monday it'll give me time to read while tossing back pints of stout happy st paddy's!!!! but i gotta have this thing going no later than friday to give to the wife fully dumbed down to the bear minimum. i promised i would make this lil phone the most streamlined pda/media center i could no frills.

By her standards it'll be super feature heavy no matter what I do but i gotta keep it super simple I want to tweak the launcher and have it all buttoned up no later than friday. shouldn't be toooo hard but i gotta make progress and will definately need guidance. but yea I think that is the way to go just do it and get it done right the first time with a tried and true method. but yea thanks again.

ok no worries....taco root is a bit tricky sometimes as it makes the phone unstable and sometimes a little hard to get the other commands to work after the taco root command has been entered. especially after it starts to bootloop.....when i did it my phone did not bootloop.

i would take your time. read it and also try and read as many posts within the thread for the guide. it has tons of troubleshooting that might help you as well.

and as always keep the questions coming.

I think I'll get started with the htc dev method this evening. Maybe the captains throwback after that I might move on to the captains throwback method depending on how late it gets.

Because you don't plan on using your EVO as a phone any longer I think you'll find the HTC methiod with just s-on will work fine for your needs. The ability of changing things such as radios with s-off probably won't come up. There is a new radio, but with the exception of a small security change I doubt there is much of a difference.

you did not copy the entire length of the token. you need to:
<<<<<Identifier Token Start>>>>>
and end with:
<<<<<Identifier Token End>>>>>

so are you unlocked? do you have recovery now? you need su in order to alter the stock rom. and to be honest there are way better roms out there that is better then stock.

cool beans then you need to do step 2 to get recovery and then finish with step 3 to either flash su or flash a rom.......and mikg is the one i recommend or if you want something different then try deck's reloaded.....both are awesome roms to try.

you can get them here:

what am I missing I was trying to use the cmd prompt to fastboot the recovery and it is waiting for device to repond i am on the hboot screen on my phone??? is that the wrong screen?

yes from the bootloader screen select fastboot. you have to be in fastboot to use fastboot commands.

i will go with the MikG as it has a user i know i can trust for support <o.O> . wish i knew more about the rom options. choosing an os sounds like something i should look into since my needs are so different from the regular user
