Root Successfully rooted ZTE Avid 4G (MetroPCS)

I edited my original post to help clarify this for you. 5: From the command line, cd into the newly created directory and type root

Hope this helps. Let me know.

In fact, double-clicking on "root.bat" should yield the same results. The reason I instructed everyone to do this from a command prompt is to view any error messages (should they encounter problems).

hey, yea step 5 is freaking confusing, you should add to it that you can just simply double click "root.bat"

it did it fine for me had to keep it in hand cuz its a fast root

Regarding the Mac zip, something about the .sh seems incompatible with mountain lion. I entered it into terminal as su line by line and it worked though.

Just wanted to say thanks for this, I know I'm a couple of months late, but your method was EXTREMELY painless in comparison to my previous phones rooting methods (ever rooted a Moment? Crap had like 35 steps!).

Also, just my humble 2 cents after reading this entire forum, if following the instructions in this guide is too complicated, then I really doubt you even need your phone rooted. Maybe I'm wrong, but these instructions were as simple and painless as you'll ever find, so why take a risk of ruining your phone and having to buy another if you don't have to?

Anyways, I hope that a CWM or something similar comes around soon! Thanks again!

When I run root it just says " *daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037*
*daemon started successfully *" , and then nothing happens on my phone, just freezes on the FTM. What do I do?

I ran into this aswell. What I did was while in the screen tap the space bar a few times. I did this with a mixture or tapping Space and then tapping Enter. after a few taps (not fast taps) then the script starts to run. keep a eye on when it reboots, it does it kinda fast and u need to keep your finger close to the Volume down button.

Also, I had to bring my phone into the service shop today for a completely non-related issue (cracked it), so I needed to unroot it. Under the settings of SuperSu, there was a one click unroot option. I know it's not preferred, but it did the job correctly!

If someone can get me a device tree, I'll build CM10 for you guys....
thanx again for the root guide for zte avid.would it be possible to install cm10?or install cus tom rom?another one ofr ur guides for either cm10 and how to flash custom rom would be great.ty bro

i sucessfully rooted my zte avid using ur guide.great method ty.well i downloaded an app to enhance my audio,at the end of the download phone supossed to reboot, phone shut down and never restarted.when i tried to turn it back on,nothin.took battery out.phone comes on to green android guy, then shuts off.what happened now?any help is appreciated ty

can someone make a video its to difficult for me please i want this phone rooted

Im with you , I cant figure this out. I do all the steps , and then when it reboots and I hold down the volume button it reboots into FTM but then it reboots suddenly once again , it even says rebooting in the cmd but this time I hold down the volume and it takes me to Safe Mode. If I don't hold down the volume button it boots normally.

hey peeps. for those that said they can't get it to work or it made your phone run slow I feel ya. I couldn't get it to work either and when I did finally think I had it working it made my fun run really slow and it still wasn't rooted. so I retried and retried and finally got it work. just followed the instructions for click root.bat but the only difference was my phone had to reboot 3 times not 2. first boot was when it said "file push" then it said rebooting. then 2 reboots afterwards. rooted! ty

thanks for posting. I think I'm having this problem . will try and report. I hope this helps me but thanks for posting this bit of news. this is what a forum is all about .

This should be a fairly straightforward process with minimal risk of bricking your device, however, I am definitely not responsible for any damages incurred during this procedure.

Prerequisites: ZTE device drivers for USB. (Connect your phone via the USB cable and choose the "Install Driver" connection type from your device).

1: Boot phone into FTM (hold the Volume Down key and power on device).
2: Connect USB cable to your computer.
3: Download View attachment 47664 and unzip.
4: Open a command prompt (Start+R) type "command".
5: From the command line, cd into the newly created directory and type root
6: While the phone reboots, be sure to hold the "Volume Down" button to boot back into FTM. If it begins to boot normally, pull the USB cable and power phone down to reattempt booting into FTM. Once you're back in FTM, plug the USB cable back in and the script should resume the process.
7: Once it's finished, let the phone boot into normal mode and verify root access. I used "Root Checker Basic".

Enjoy!

OK I finally got it working. I had the same problem as the other fella I quoted . I had to reboot 3 times. but after its all done and it says its done , I use the root checker and it says denied access to super user.

Edited to delete my failure I had an issue, was myself! /ignore. I apologize.

Lol I think I know what the issue was . I myself was victim to my own stupidity.

For everyone else who might have a problem after doing everything correctly just remember that to test to see If you have Root you have to give the Root check "SuperUser" permissions and then it will go Green . I was just letting it countdown and give me a Red error but after Remembering everything needs SuperUser permission It worked and the Brain Fart with it.

Welcome to AF comicbookman1 :hello: glad to see you are getting to know your AVID 4G

Thanks

Custom roms will not be avaliable until we have a working CWM(Clock Work Mod) it's a custom recovery if you're unsure.

is it supposed to be slow once rebooted or is this only happening to me? also it says i am not rooted on root checker basic

mine did the same thing. yours isn't rooted. what u have to do is follow the root procedures again but this time it will reboot 3 times not 2. all three times u must hold the volume down button as it reboots. that will have u fixed up
