i'm thinking of getting the Note 2 for tmobile. but i notice that it shudders as i scroll. are there any roms that make the scrolling and performance smooth and fast?

did you try It at a tmobile store if so they probably have a lot of stuff open. Hence the sluggishness

I can assure you that there is no screen shudder. I have the T-Mo version and it works pretty much flawlessly. Any issues I've had turned out to be user error.

i tried it at tmo, at&t and sprint.. suprisingly, sprint proved the smoothest.

The most recent issue was with the Gmail app. I added another Gmail account but made my main account the priority inbox. Well, I wasn't getting push notifications for about a week. Well, once I went into the setting and unchecked the Priority Inbox option, I started getting them again. So I guess that would be a user error.
I'm sure there are a few more but I just cannot think of any at the moment.
Nothing having to do with performance of the device like OP was suggesting.

I have had this phone for a while and I must say, I have never witnessed lag during normal operation. Sure, if I play a graphically intensive game like Real Racing 3 I can see that the framerate drops occasionally, and If I'm using maps on 3g and zooming in and out very quickly I might notice the occasional stutter, but apart from that it is butter smooth. I wonder if the display models have power saving mode enabled or something, as this can create a stutter like effect if the processor is limited to save batter.

But my question then is where you are getting your impression of there being lag? And that term is very subjective. What some might consider lag, others may not. To a certain extent, all smartphones have a degree of lag, especially after being loaded up and developing cache from every day use.
Of all my experiences with smartphones, since Windows Mobile days (pre-Windows Phone), this is the last laggy of all. Any lag I have experienced had been due to all of the cache built up, which goes away with a good cache cleaner. And I have never rooted any of my devices, ever, so I haven't even ventured into overclocking.
I personally have avoided lag with my Photon and this phone, just using a 3rd party launcher, which some would argue shouldn't have any positive impact on responsiveness. I draw the correlation of a machine dyno (off street) vs. butt dyno (every day driving). Same with 3rd party launchers. Some would say it doesn't improve performance (machine dyno), while others would say it does (butt dyno feels like it is faster, even if specs say otherwise).
I actually have this turned on for battery life as I need the life. So this maybe why mine has done it.

If anyone can give a good rom to the note 2 i'd appreciate it. this thread has been up for many days and so far NO ONE has given a rom recommendation.

It may simply mean that there aren't very many roms out there to choose from and the rom's that do exist don't provide a great improvement over stock. The Note 2 is a relatively new device and development is a process ... done by people whose time and effort are provided to the Android community for free. Patience and appreciation are usually the best motivators.

The Note 2 Lags unlocking and pulling down the notification tray...it also lags scrolling Facebook. Everybody with a stock Note 2 has this. I'd guess an AOSP or AOKP ROM won't have those issues.

hi dreamliner.. i'm glad that finally someone has the balls to admit this.. many note 2 owners are in denial of the lagging issue on the phone.
i'll check out xda to see if they got custom roms that remove this lag.. thanks.

I've really only noticed lag in a couple areas... But every Android device I've used (Over 20 models, including the Nexus 7 & Galaxy Nexus (but not the Nexus 4)) has had some sort of persistent lag, much more so than I experienced with the iPad 3.
I simply don't make excuses, or pretend problems don't exist, simply because I own a device. I'm very vocal about the issues to try and fix them, but threads get derailed by people claiming the problem 'does not exist' when it, in fact, does.
Then when a thread reaches this point, it dies, and the issue goes unresolved.

I don't think it's as simple as that. I just think some people are less sensitive to "lag" or framerate variations. I am, personally, very OCD about juddering when using a device, and it bugs me when it happens. But aside from the odd occasion on a "heavy" webpage or occasionally Google Maps, I really don't notice lag when using the Note 2. That said, I haven't had my device long and I don't download many apps, so perhaps this is why.
